Emma sits on the bed, surprised and unable to believe what Ana, the housekeeper, has told her. Could it really be true that she will have a family dinner with the Whites today?
"This cannot be true," she says, standing up nervously. She doesn't know what to do, as she hadn't expected to confront them so soon.
Emma has her suitcases brought to the room, and Ana helps her arrange her things in the closet. While they work, Emma selects two dresses from those she brought to wear to tonight's dinner. If everything is already prepared, she has no choice but to attend.
For the rest of the afternoon, she spends her time in the room, deciding not to go out. Her priority now is to mentally prepare for what is about to happen.
