CHAPTER 2 – My restless wolf, Hunter

Danian’s POV

“Danian, where are you going? Every day you ignore this topic” I heard Mom’s furious tone on my back when I was leaving the dining table. I walked to the corridor until I listened to the sound of shutting the sizeable wooden dining hall doors on my disappearing back.

I sighed deeply and inhaled the pure Oxygen to fill my Lycan lungs with fresh morning oxygen. I leaned to the long wooden railway of the corridor, which leads to the front garden. I gritted my teeth and clenched my palms until my nails dug into the back of my palm.

MATE! The most irritating word in my dictionary these days.

I know that being a Lycan King took work. I was too early to hold this title, but Dad requested it since he started to have a few health issues. We are not an average Lycan family; we are Royal Lycans. We have a set of rules and regulations which other Lycans don’t have.

The number one rule had a mate!

It was the issue my dad fought a lot with the council before he handover the crown to me. The board strictly objected to my father taking this decision. After many heated arguments with the council, Dad finally agreed to one condition: if I couldn’t find my mate within a year after my crowning, they would find a suitable bride from another pack.

Mom was pulling the mate topic daily at the dining table, and as usual, I was leaving in the middle of breakfast. It was not her fault speaking about this; I met her during breakfast only; as the Lycan King, I have full duties to be done within the day.

As the royal family, we don’t have a particular pack. First, I belonged to the Lycan Blood pack, but after becoming the Lycan king, I had to leave the group, and I treated each pack fairly. I heard recently that the Moon Valley pack and a rogue pack had a battle and lost many lives, including the Beta of the Moon Valley Pack. Father asked me to go and do research about the battle and submit a report to the council. Next week I’ll be leaving for the Moon Valley pack, and I also had to meet the new Beta. We will be dealing with the top-level titles of each pack.

“Brother, I was looking for you everywhere, and here you are with….” My brother Nick was 20 years old and a high school student. He paused his phrase and looked at me with narrowed eyes.

“Let me guess the reason for this long face” he leaned to the handrail, pushing his back and folding his arms on his chest.

“Nick, if you know the reason, please don’t say it. I am fed up with this topic. Tell me, young man, it seems like you are late for school and here to ask for a ride to the school,” I said, looking at him.

“Don’t be upset, bro; you will meet your mate. I am sure the moon goddess has planned a precious mate for you; that’s why she is taking time to come into your life. Remember when I was restless without a mate, you were the one who said that the good things come later in our lives.”

He was correct. We, Lycans, find our mate when we turned into 15 years old. Nick found his mate at the age of seventeenth. Mom was so scared that he would also be mateless like me. My sister, Selene, who was 18 years old, had just found her mate. The lateness was in our genes.

“I’ll drop you at the school. Let’s go before moms come out and bursts on both of us,” I said, patting his back.

The SUV parked near the main door, and I entered the driving seat. Nick sat on the other side and wore his seat belt. I received a few calls on the way, and Nick was busy with his mobile. His facial expressions show that he is in a chat with his mate. I stopped the vehicle for the traffic light, peeped slowly at his mobile, and saw a few hearts and kissing emojis on his w******p chat with his mate.

The mate bond must be beautiful; once the wolf finds their mate, it won’t be able to live without the mate. I’ve seen how Nick and Selene were possessive towards their mate, and not only that, my dad was still obsessive for Mom. They say that it will make us complete.

We came to the school, and I stopped at the gate.

“See you, Nick. I’ll call you if I can pick you up, or else you have to find a way to return,” I said.

“Wooo, ho, wait. I couldn’t tell you something. Danian, I need a big favor from you” he leaned to the vehicle window with a cunning face. I knew that something was in his mind.

“Now what, Nick?” I asked.

“Danian, I have a birthday party tonight. It was one of my best friend’s birthday. I thought to give her a surprise” he scratches his back.

“So, just go and enjoy. I don’t mind,” I said.

“Brother, the problem was, I promised her that you would also be there with me, and she loves you a lot; I mean, she almost fainted when I said about you,” he slowly said.

“Nick, why are you putting me into trouble always? Just do one thing, I am not interested in those teenage parties; I have my duties to do. You go and enjoy,” I said and started the vehicle.

“No, no, no, brother, please listen to me. I promised her that meeting you would be her birthday gift from me. Who doesn’t love to see you and meet you? Please, Danian, I promised her.” he said.

“Nothing works on me, Brother; you should have asked me before you promised; now it’s up to you” I was about to change the gear.

“Who knows that you will be meeting your mate tonight? I heard these incidents don’t happen as a coincidence, brother. The moon goddess planned it” The word mate made me consider this opportunity. I tapped on the steering wheel with my pouted lips.

“Fine, but just for one hour only,” I declared.

“Thanks, Danian. See you in the evening” he walked into the school with a dance on the way. I scoffed a smile and drove the vehicle towards a meeting I was supposed to present with the council members.

In the evening

“Brother, where are you? Are you ready….” I was in my office room reading a project report handed over to me by the pack school headmaster when suddenly Nick barged into it without thinking of a knock. I just raised my eyes to see him; I was irritated when someone disturbed my work.

“Danian, what are you still doing? Look at you; you were wearing a pair of cotton trousers with a casual t-shirt,” he walked closer to me and said.

“So, what? This is comfortable for me and Nick. How often must I remind you to knock on the door before you enter? You know that it irritates me when someone disturbs me, and still, you are doing it” I moved my gaze back to the project report I was reading.

“Don’t you remember the thing I said in the morning? It was already 6.30 p.m., and still, my brother, the big Lycan King, was not prepared to go to the party” Then only I clicked that he said something about a birthday party. I closed the report and rubbed my forehead.

“I forgot that. Is my presence necessary there, Nick?” I leaned back on the chair and stretched my neck.

“Of course, is that a thing to ask? Now come on, we have to hurry” he pulled me from the chair, took me to my bedroom, and opened my walk-in closet.

He was searching for the best fit for me for the evening. First, he picked classic black hi-cut sneakers and then moved for jeans. He chose a dark blue pair of jeans and then a white T-shirt with a grey blazer on top of it.

“Now, quickly change into these, and I can give you only half an hour, brother” he threw the clothes on me and left the bedroom.

I washed and dried my body. I wrapped a towel around my torso and came to the bedroom to change into the new clothes. I removed my towel, and suddenly my eye went to the large mirror in the bedroom. I was looking at the glorious handsome man who was standing in front of it.

What’s the point of having a beautiful body without a mate? I mumbled to myself.

I put on the clothes Nick chose and combed them back with the perfect partition. I took my Wallette and wore the watch to wrap up the look for tonight.

“You came early. Did you wear them all, brother?” Nick chuckled, and I rolled my eyes at him.

“Let’s go. I will not wait there for more than an hour, Nick; remember that,” I said while sitting in the driver’s seat.

We reached the place, and it was a luxury restaurant. I parked the vehicle, and Nick dragged me inside. The restaurant’s VIP section was full of birthday party attendants.

“OMG, you brought him here,” a girl came by, hugging Nick. I then realized that it was the birthday girl. She was wearing too many revealing clothes; then she suddenly hugged me, which I never expected. I looked at Nick in surprise and felt that suddenly my wolf was getting started irritated with her touch. I quickly and gently moved her away.

“Happy birthday, young lady,” I politely wished her.

“Oh my god, did you hear Nick, the Lycan King, just wished me? Please come this way; we have all the night to enjoy,” saying. He pulled me into the crowd, and Nick shrugged his shoulders.

“You are such a lucky girl; how come the Lycan King was here for your birthday!” the other girls gave me a greedy look, making me uncomfortable.

“My promise is done for you now, and he will be my gift to you for your birthday. Make him happy, girls; I am going to go for my mate” Saying that, Nick withdrew himself from the party, and I saw him rushing to his mate.

I felt that I got caught in the trap of Nick. The girls were so excited to see me, and they started to ask questions without stopping; more than the birthday or the birthday girl, all the eyes were on me. This made me uncomfortable, and I just smiled at them.

Why the hell did I come here? I mentally whispered.

I checked the times in passing every minute, and Nick was busy being lovey-dovey with his mate. I didn’t want to disturb him. The cake was cut, and the birthday girl brought a piece to feed me.

“Thank you so much, but you can feed it to others. They are your friends; I am not,” I said, but she brought the cake piece closer to my mouth.

“You can have the piece with my fingers,” she whispered, licking her lips.

“Listen to me, young lady; I am here because my brother requested my presence. Happy birthday to you; you can feed this to others,” saying I moved a bit away from her.

Her face turned gloomy; she must feel embarrassed; as the Lycan king, I must maintain my image. The party went on, and I was there near to two hours. Finally, I have decided to leave the place.

“Please wait; the party is not over yet” Once again, the birthday girl stopped me by holding my hand.

“Young lady, I have my work to do. I will leave now. You can enjoy yourself with your friends,” I said, gently leaving her hand from my hand.

“But, I want you to stay here. We can enjoy the night, I am sure this will be a memorable night for both of us” Her seductive voice, and lustful eyes were disgusting to me.

I felt my wolf was standing from his position; this would not be good.

“Listen, birthday girl, you must return to your friend. I am not interested in anything at the moment and….” Before I finished my phrase, she made me pause by keeping her index finger on my lips.

“Just give us an opportunity; I am sure you won’t regret it.”

“You better make her stop, Danian. Otherwise, I will come out. I don’t like anyone touching us other than our mate” It was Hunter; my wolf quickly mind-linked me.

“That’s enough. Before something happens that your friend and family regret staying away from me, lady,” I growled at her, and she was startled.

“Easy, buddy; I think you should leave now” Nick came to settle the moment.

I left the place quickly with a pissed mind.
