Chapter 9
In the days to follow Rocco noticed a difference in Preacher’s attitude regarding him. For some reason he was keeping his distance, and Rocco was afraid that in view of everything that had happened, Preacher’s feelings might have changed. He had even moved into the guest room which made Rocco feel rejected.
He longed for his arms, his lips, and the words that would reassure him of his love. He struggled with it day in and day out until finally, he had to know the truth. So, one night he lingered for several minutes in the doorway of the guest room watching Preacher, but hesitated to speak.
Preacher happened to look up and noticed Rocco watching him. Knowing something must be wrong, Preacher quickly rose from his chair and walked over to him. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
