Sammy
‘Can you tell us about your decision to retire as a fashion model?’
‘Yes, of course. I've been modeling for years now, and while I love the industry and all the amazing people I've met along the way, I feel like it's time for me to move on to new things. I've always been interested in pursuing other great things in life, like settling down and building my own family!’
‘Oh! That’s interesting, Demi! We didn’t know you were dating! Who’s the lucky guy?’
‘I can’t say his name yet, but he’s my ideal man! You’ll find out about him soon. He’s my one and only love. It sounds cliche, but this guy occupies my heart. He’s all I've wanted since I was a kid. We promised each other, and I can’t wait to see him soon!’
‘Awesome, Demi! That's great to hear. Do you have any advice for other models who may be considering retiring?’
‘Well, you know when it's time to hang it up. Love is my greatest motivation to give everything up….’
“Oh, come on...” I muttered as I continued to listen to Demi’s answers.
The lady was indeed serious about retiring and returning here. And much more to continue our relationship. I still didn’t know what to say or do once she returned and rekindled our childhood love.
I wasn’t the same Samuel seven years ago. Yes, I promised to wait for her, and she was the love of my life back then, but I didn’t think I still loved her now. Many things occupy my life and heart. My career was the most important of them all.
“Damn…” I shook my head, easing my thoughts about Demi’s return. I shouldn’t be stressing, but I couldn’t believe she still loved me despite not seeing or communicating with me for years.
For Demi, our last conversation and promises were enough to hold on to.
I was about to call Sophie when my phone started buzzing. ‘Demi calling…’ I canceled her call and put my phone in airplane mode.
Demi had already called me this morning. We casually talked for a while. I was getting hangry, lying to her that I had just returned from long duty hours. Then she asked me about my plans for tonight.
Demi and the ladies she worked with were already in the city but busy with their schedules. They would go to California tomorrow for a series of modeling events and wanted to party before they left.
I was not a fan of partying and clubbing. Kyle owned several bars and clubs in different cities and states, but I had never been to any of them. I’d rather study than hang out and drink.
‘We needed to talk’ A text appeared on my screen. ‘Please…I can’t rest my mind, Sammy…’ Another one popped again.
“Damn..” My jaw clenched before snorting. Demi overheard my silly conversation with Elisha and Sophie earlier. Demi wanted to know who the ladies were, especially when she heard Sophie teasing me in front of Elisha. I told her they were my friends, and Elisha was Kyle’s fiancé. I didn’t need to explain everything to her, so I excused myself and hung up the phone.
On the other hand, It looked like Elisha was still unaware of my connection with Sophie. I wondered what was keeping Sophie from opening up about us to Elisha.
“Doctor Sammy?”
I jolted up from my seat and looked at the person who had just called my name. I didn’t hear her knocking and entering the call room. “Nurse Aly, Hey!” I smiled, putting the phone down. “Do you need anything?”
“Yes, Doctor Perez is waiting for you to sign these papers. We needed your signature for the patient's medical records for their release plus the patients' information for tonight's surgeries,” Aly handed me the papers, “And this is for tonight's surgery schedule,” she added.
I took them and opened the folder.“Oh, yes! Thank you!” I read and checked the papers before signing them.
It took me a while to finish it, and as soon as it was done, I gave it back to Nurse Aly and then picked up my phone to message Sophie. She sent me some photos earlier and updated me on the preparations for Gideon’s party. I should have been helping her, but I had hospital duty all night.
I promised to talk to her on the phone tonight, though I didn’t think I had time since I had to join surgery and assist the doctors. I had so many things to share with her.
Tom agreed to join Elisha's party tomorrow and would fly early the next day so he could be with us. I also vaguely answered some of his questions, though I assured him that Elisha would be happy to see him. He was hesitant at first, but after learning I answered Sophie’s question about Elisha having a pregnancy condition, he decided to visit his sister.
I told Tom what happened to Sam when she returned from Paris, minus the details of her pregnancy. Tom asked me about the little boy Elisha and Sophie babysat last time. I told him that he was a young relative visiting the house. I advised Tom to just see Sam in person and talk to her. I had no right to tell him anything out of respect for my sister.
I saw how Tom felt uncomfortable and confused throughout our short conversation. He explained what he learned from his friends. I didn’t confirm or deny the information. Luckily, he had no idea about the whole fuss over the weekend. Max and Caroline urged him to talk with Sam as well.
‘Hey, sweety! Thanks for the photos. I can’t wait to see the venue tomorrow! You and Mika did a great job!’ I typed and sent her a message.
‘Hey! No worries! Mika has just left, and I’m staying with Elisha in her room. We were waiting for our dinner.’
‘Oh, what happened? Are you not joining everyone for dinner downstairs?’
‘Elisha didn’t feel like joining Kyle. I got her, plus I wanted her to relax and not move around. I’m still on edge about her condition.’
I chuckled, shaking my head after reading Sophie’s reply. She had nothing to worry about, though Elisha’s condition was pretty serious. She could still go and move around but with caution. ‘I hear you, but she will be okay. Please relax so Elisha won’t worry too….’
‘Yes, you are right... Anyway, I hope you are doing well and having a great night. I left your outfit on the bed for tomorrow. I can’t wait to see you wearing them!’
I smiled. ‘Same here, though. I prefer you and me not to wear anything. Xx.’
‘Stop!’
‘Just kidding. Yes, I have surgery tonight. I’m just chilling here, reading the patient’s medical record. I'll be home around six-ish!’
‘Wishing you luck! May the high heavens bless your hands and fingers…I love them inside me….’
I burst out laughing this time. Sophie was such a naughty lady, and I liked it very much. Her quirkiness and smart mouth made me lose my mind. In an extraordinary way. ‘Stop doing that, my sweet Sophie.’ I squirmed slightly in my seat, trying to ease the discomfort growing between my legs.
‘If I don’t?’
‘I’ll punish you.’
‘I’m looking forward to it.’
“Doctor Samuel? Are you okay?”
I jolted up in my seat once again after hearing someone call my name. “Doctor Perez! Yes, I’m okay! How is it going?” I smiled at him. Doctor Perez was the hospital's surgeon-in-chief and happened to be my mentor in this field. He encouraged me to do a combined residency since he trusted my abilities.
“You seemed happy, doc. I’ve been watching while you’re on your phone,” he replied, sitting beside me.
“Yes…”
“Have you read the medical records Nurse Aly gave you?”
‘Damn,’ I totally forgot about it. “I haven’t, but I am about to,” I seriously replied before placing my phone back inside my pocket.
Doctor Perez clicked his tongue and shook his head. “I see,” He had a stern look on his face and spoke in a deep, authoritative voice.
The old guy was known for his strict policies and non-nonsense approach to our duties. Throughout our clinical rotations over the last three years, we were constantly monitored by his empathic yet uncompromising guidance in the field. His watchful eyes were my guide. “You better start reading them now, son. Stay focused. This is your calling, and I would appreciate it if you'd be on track before anything and anyone else. This is your last year, and I know you are looking forward to practicing your profession,” he added.
I inhaled deeply, “I will. Thank you for the reminder, sir.” I nodded as I opened the files Nurse Aly gave me. Dr. Perez was right. I had to pay attention and give my best. Sophie wasn’t a distraction, though. She helped me get through a stressful year.
What somehow bothered me was Demi and her words. She was vocal about her plans to leave her dreams and be with me. I was worried she would use that card on me.
I spent the following hours doing my job as a doctor. I went to surgery after surgery and hospital rounds throughout the night. It was already seven in the morning when I got home. Gideon’s party wouldn’t start until three in the afternoon, so I still had time to rest.
Everyone seemed to be still asleep when I entered our mansion. I walked upstairs and stopped at Elisha’s bedroom door. I thought about knocking but changed my mind and entered my room.
The aroma of freshly baked bread and the sweet scent of fruit welcomed me. “Oh, Sophie…” I smiled, staring at the breakfast tray next to the neatly folded clothes on my bed. There was an egg sandwich, a bowl of sliced mixed fruits, and the familiar metal flask with coffee. I picked up the letter she left beside it.
‘Hey, doc! I know you’ll be hungry, angry, and sleepy soon, but please don’t forget to eat. Elisha made her infamous egg sandwich spread last night, and I saved some for you. And that’s hot chocolate! Not coffee! And yes! That’s the metal flask I whacked on your head! Please take a rest, and I'll see you in the afternoon! Küsse für dich!’
I ate the food Sophie had prepared for me. Elisha’s egg sandwich spread tasted great, and I no wondered why Gideon was obsessed with it. “Oh, my sweet Sophie... I mumbled with a smile etched on my face.
After having a sumptuous and hearty breakfast, I took a long, hot bath in the shower. I couldn’t help but grin as I remembered what happened here a few nights ago. It was so intense and hot that I felt the needy twitch down south of my body. “Oh, stop,” I muttered, turning the cold water on.
I sent Sophie a thank you message as I relaxed naked on my bed. I didn’t expect her to answer them immediately, so I rested my phone on my bedside table. My eyes were droopy, and I really needed a wink. I was about to close them when my phone buzzed. I urgently took my phone back to check it.
Yet, to my dismay, it wasn’t Sophie. It was Demi’s message telling me she needed help. I wanted to ignore her message, thinking she could call 911 if it were a medical emergency.
However, I couldn’t just shun it right away, so I dialed her number back. “Hey, what’s up?” As soon as I heard her pick up her phone.
“Sammy! Thank you for calling back!”
Demi’s frantic voice greeted me back. “Everything okay?” I asked, yawning.
“Yes…”
“Oh, Demi…I need to rest….” I grumbled.
“Please don’t hang up… We need to meet soon.”
I snorted. “I agreed with you this morning, Demi. I will let you know my schedule and which city I am in.”
“Yes, I know. I have a busy schedule too, but I just want you to know that I met Raven...and he… said something….”
‘Raven.’ I was digging up my memories. “Quit beating around the bush and say what he told you,” I sternly asked.
“He said that we killed Jess, and he knows everything we did.”
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. I was too sleepy to give a f*ck about what Raven said. He didn’t know a thing about what happened. “He’s obviously bluffing, Demi. Calm down.” That was all I could say.
“Sammy…I’m afraid…”
“You shouldn’t, Demi. If your conscience is clear, you don’t have to worry. Wir sprechen uns später, tschüss,” I ended the call. “Raven.”I snorted, closing my eyes.
Raven was Jess's boyfriend and baby-daddy.
