Chapter 46- Calm Down

2846 Words
Sammy After ensuring Elisha’s safety and once Sophie was calm, I left the latter with Feliz to take the phone charger from my car. I sat inside to take a breather after the commotion I witnessed earlier. I already knew the tale about Elisha’s stepmother, and I didn’t expect Devyn to attack and hurt Elisha. Luckily, the lady was already in the hospital, and the doctors took care of her immediately. Sophie was livid, and I couldn’t blame her for her actions. She was indeed defensive and protective of the people she loved. “I need to call Sam,” I mumbled, checking my phone. I plugged it in for a while to speak with my sister. I was about to pick up Sophie’s phone to call Layla when it suddenly rang and buzzed. “Oh, just right in time…” I said, seeing Layla’s name on the screen. “Sophie! Where are you and Elisha?” Layla fired right away. “Hey…Layla. It is Sammy…” I calmly answered her. “Oh, Sammy, What happened?!” “I was about to call you...” I said before telling her what had happened and why Sophie’s phone was with me. “Oh, God! Let her know that I will go and be with her soon! Thanks, Sammy! See you in a while!” Layla said, then hung up the call. I sighed in relief before picking up my phone. It had enough battery to call Sam, so I did. “Sammy, hey! How is it going?” Sam answered right away. “Hey! I need help. Something happened in the hospital. I didn’t know the whole thing yet, but Elisha’s mom attacked her,” “What?! s**t!” “Yes…Feliz and Sophie are inside. I will call you later, but don’t worry, Elisha and the babies are okay. It's better if you call Feliz,” I added. “Sure! I will! Talk to you later,” Sam hung up the phone. I shook my head before heaving deeply. My head began to throb in pain in tiredness. I hadn’t slept properly yet, and I wanted to take more time to rest. I decided to go back to the hospital after taking all my stuff. I was about to go when Sophie’s phone buzzed. ‘Demivil’ I scowled as I looked at the screen. It piqued my curiosity, and I clicked and opened the message. My eyes gaped as soon as I saw and read what was written on their conversation thread. It was Demi, indeed. She sent Sophie a message saying she should leave me. “Oh, Demi... What are you doing?” I grumbled, though I couldn’t help but smile as I read Sophie’s last response. It was around the time I was outside, and perhaps that was why she was in my room last night. ‘You better ask Sammy about me and our promise to each other. I love him, and I will fight for him! I know your true colors, and you can’t fool Sammy! You are a…’ I didn’t open the message but only read the part on the screen. I ran my fingers through my hair and huffed once more. It was time for me to open up to Sophie about Demi. And I needed to speak with Demi and clarify everything with her. “Damn…” I puffed and shrugged my thoughts away. I left my car and walked back to the hospital. Yet, for the third time, Sophie’s phone rang again. This time, it was from an unknown number. I ceased walking and opened it. “No way…” I grumbled, looking at one nude photo showing on the screen. It was Sophie, showing off her skin and breasts, looking lewd in front of a camera. ‘Thank you for the memories…my little minx…’ The message underneath said. “No…” I muttered, looking at the photo closer. She looked much younger and small. ‘This can’t be Sophie,’ I glowered, trying to erase the bothersome thoughts in my head. I was aware of Chase and her history with him, but I was dumbfounded to see the things that she had done with him before. Sophie and I needed to speak soon. I just couldn’t shrug off the saddening thoughts in my head. I went back to the emergency room waiting area. I saw that Sophie and Feliz were still talking. Feliz's eyes were red and puffy, and I knew why she was tensed and worked up about Elisha. Soon, things would be revealed, and the truth would be unveiled about her and Elisha. I approached the two and smiled at them.“Layla is coming here soon,” I said, handing Sophie her phone, trying to hide the bugging thoughts in my mind. “I’ll just call Mom so we can check Elisha inside. Please excuse me, Feliz, Sophie,” I added, leaving them to tell Mom what happened. I stopped in the lobby and saw one of the police officers speaking with the receptionist. I bet they had started the investigation. I overheard that Devyn had already been brought to the station, so I let the officers do their job and proceeded to Mom’s office. “Hi, doctor Sammy! Your mom is inside, but she’s with a patient,” My mom’s assistant said as I knocked on the door. “Thanks, Letty. I’ll wait for her.” I smiled, sitting on the receiving couch. I checked my barely charged phone. There were a few messages from Sam, Mom, and Sophie telling me about Kyle’s stuff. I sighed in relief upon seeing nothing from Demi. I was about to plug in my device when my phone beeped. “Damn it, Demi.” Her name blinked on my screen. This time, I answered her. “Yes..” “Sammy…” “Demi, I am begging you to please stop. Whatever you said to Sophie isn’t going to help you or us,” I said right away. I heard a sniffle. “I can’t sleep…Raven…he’s messaging me…” She said, ignoring what I had just asked. I puffed in frustration. “Send me his number,” I grittily said. “I will. I need you.” “I’ll deal with him first.” “Okay…” “Bye,” I mumbled before hanging up the phone. Soon after, Demi sent me Raven’s number and screenshots of her conversation with Raven and his number. “Bastard...” I was angry as I composed my angry messages to him. A little while later, the patient left. I saved the words I had written for Raven as I thought rationally. “Doc Sammy, your mom is free.” Her assistant called my attention. “Thank you,” I said, standing up before walking inside Mom’s office. She was on the phone, frowning as she listened to the other side. Her eyes gaped as soon as she saw me standing at her door. “Oh, yes! Your brother is here! I will call you later,” Mom said, ending the call. “Samuel! What happened to Elisha? Have you checked on her?” “Was that Sam?” “Yes, she’s trying to call Feliz, but she’s not answering.” Mom shook her head. “I called Sophie a minute ago to ask if she had already dropped Kyle’s stuff, but I heard what happened downstairs. She said Feliz was with her in the ER waiting area,” she added. “She’s with Sophie,” I said, vaguely telling Mom everything I knew. “We should go back and check on her.” Mom nodded. “Okay, let’s go...” Mom and I left her clinic and went back to the Emergency room waiting area. Feliz was on the phone near the door. It must be Sam she was speaking with. I saw Sophie sitting alone. Her tears were nonstop as she wiped them silently. My heart ached for her, and I wanted to soothe her. I was about to approach and ask Sophie when Layla appeared and dashed toward her. The two hugged each other and cried. “That’s Sophie and Layla,” Mom said. Then I noticed a hospital staff holding bunches of papers and forms approaching them. “Yes, let’s talk to them,” I replied, seeing how the two ladies comforted each other. “Hey, Sophie…Layla…” I smiled at them. “Doc Maris! Sammy!” Layla greeted us. “Hey…” Sophie smiled. Sadness was etched on her tear-stained, ashen face. I looked at Sophie, and she seemed to avoid my eyes. “Sophie. Would you like to go home for a while? I can take care of Elisha while you are resting?” I offered, thinking about if I could ask Mom’s driver to send them home. “No, thank you, Sammy. I want to stay here for Elisha,” Sophie firmly replied, squeezing Layla’s hand. “I see...” I mumbled. “Are they keeping her overnight?” Mom asked the staff. She nodded and explained the doctors’ request for Elisha’s admission. Sophie cleared her throat. “Plus, I needed to handle this. Please excuse me. I’ll just fill out Elisha’s documents,” she said, looking at the staff. They left and walked away. I found it odd, but perhaps she had a hunch. I already saw the messages on her phone. Yes, I was shocked, but that didn’t change anything. She had an explanation, and I wanted to hear it. “Poor lady...” Mom puffed before looking at Layla, “Layla, we will just check on Elisha.” “Sure. I will follow Sophie,” Layla smiled before leaving us. We were about to get inside when Feliz stopped and greeted us. She was with a police officer. “Maris, Sammy, I needed to go for the statement. I have already talked with Samantha, and they will be here soon. Please take care of Elisha…” Mom hugged Feliz. “Sure. We will take care of her. Do what you must do and make sure Devyn will stay in prison,” She said. Feliz left, so Mom and I entered the emergency room and asked for Elisha. The nurse pointed us to the curtain. “Elisha…” I called her name as soon as I got inside. She was reclining on the bed, looking pale and sad while rubbing her bump. “Sammy…Maris,” Elisha smiled at us. “How are you, sweety? Sophie told me what happened…” Mom asked Elisha right away, holding her hand. I stood beside her bed and checked the medicine pumping through her IV. “I’m okay…doctors said I’m okay….” Elisha calmly answered. I smiled, puffing. The lady was lucky indeed to be in the right place. “I heard that you and Sophie came here to bring Kyle’s stuff, and someone attacked you?” “Yes, that’s my stepmom. For some reason, Devyn saw me in the lobby and jumped on me.” “That’s why there were police outside earlier,” I nodded. “Did they take her?” “Yes, the lady has already been taken by the police. I didn’t see Sophie and Mom’s messages earlier,” I answered. “I see…” “Did the doctor say anything? How are the babies?” Mom asked, checking the IV stand next to me. “They are actually hungry,” Elisha chuckled, rubbing her tummy. Mom and I beamed. “Sweet…” I murmured, checking her bump. “The first ultrasound was good, but Doctor Alexis told me that they are going to take me to the ultrasound room to check thoroughly and make me feel okay,” Elisha added. “They are keeping you here all night,” Mom sighed, glancing at me. “Yes. I think Sophie is already preparing my papers.” Elisha nodded. “Yes, I saw her too,” I agreed. “I asked mom’s driver to send her home to rest, and I would handle it, but she said no. I think she’s done processing it and called Layla to come over here.” “That’s great. She has someone with her,” Elisha nodded. “Did Feliz stay?” “I think she went to the police station to give her statement,” Mom answered. Feliz was in a hurry. “Thank heavens! Ugh, I can deal with her anymore! It's just sad that Gideon wouldn’t be able to meet his other granny and spend good times with her,” Elisha commented, and I agreed. My nephew was blessed to have a great family with us, though it was unfortunate to have a lunatic grandma. “Tom should fix this. He should do something to help his mom,” Mom replied. “He should. But with all the legal charges and cases they are facing, I bet it would take time for Devyn to leave the prison,” I seconded. Elisha frowned at me. “Did you know the story?” I smirked and rubbed my nape. “Yeah, Sophie told me. She shared with me how evil your stepmom was.” I awkwardly answered. Sophie opened it up to me, and I hoped Elisha wouldn’t mind it. “It's fine. At least you have an idea of how evil she is,” Elisha coolly said, relieving me. “I reckon.” I nodded, smiling at her. “Oh, Sammy….” Elisha added. “Yes?” “I’m starving… Would you please get me a sandwich? without tomatoes but loads of mayo?” Elisha wiggled her brows. “Oh, is it bad for me to chew ice?” she asked, making me smile. “Not really. Unless you are suffering from pagophagia, and it’s associated with anemia, but I don’t think you have any of those,” Mom chuckled, “I craved for ice when I was pregnant with my twins too.” “Ooohh… yes, I don’t know. I just suddenly craved for it,” Elisha shrugged. I laughed. “Fine, I’ll get you what you want!” “Really?” “Yes!” “Oh, God! Thank you!” Elisha happily said. “Elisha?” Mom and I heard Dr. Alexis. She was one of the doctors and specialists and also my cousin. “Oh, Sammy!? Aunt Maris! You know Elisha?” “Hey, Alexis! Yes, she’s Kyle's girlfriend,” I answered. Alexis gasped. “Oh, sweet! Such a small world!” “Yes, sweetheart,” Mom smiled. “He’s also got admitted here! Oh, did he know what happened to you?” Doctor Alexis asked. “We haven’t told him, or else he will come over here and check on El,” I answered. “Yes, of course,” Doctor Alexis nodded. “Are you ready, El? We will take you to the ultrasound room. On the fourth floor, perhaps we can call Kyle to join you. “No!” Elisha objected. I wasn’t surprised at all. “Oh…” Doctor Alexis nodded and smiled. “I… I didn’t want him to see me.” “That’s fine…by the way. You can eat after your ultrasound,” Doctor Alexis replied. “Thanks, doc…” Elisha mumbled, smiling at me and mom. I rubbed Elisha’s arm. “That’s fine. My shift will end soon. I’ll get your snack, and then I will go home and get your dinner. I’ll ask Sophie what she needs me to bring later,” I offered. “That’s awesome, son…” Mom looked at me and said, “Maybe ask Yelena to prepare food for our patients.” “I will, please excuse me,” I left them for a while to find Sophie. I quickly saw her as she and Layla walked back from the office. “Hey…” I smiled at her. Sophie's sad eyes stared back at me. “Is Elisha okay?” she asked worriedly. Instead of answering her, “Oh, come here…” I drew my arms wide and hugged her. “Please don’t worry. She’s safe, and also, the babies are okay.” I assured her, smiling at Layla. Sophie sniffled. “Can we see her now?” I felt Sophie embrace me tightly. “I am not sure, but her doctor and mom are there. You can ask them.” I answered. “I will go to your place and take Sophie and Elisha’s clothes and stuff, Sammy,” Layla said. I broke the hug and looked at Sophie, “Don’t bother, ladies. I’ll do it. My shift will be over soon.” “Thanks, Sammy…I’ll..message…” Sophie paused, “I’ll just call Nana to prepare our things.” “No worries.” I rubbed her arm. “And please calm down, sweety. We will talk later,” I whispered. Sophie looked up at me with brimming tears and said, “Yes, I will explain…” I cupped her cheek, “Don’t worry about it.” I said, kissing her forehead. xx
