My hair and clothes are a mess, looking into the mirror at the rips and dirt everywhere was a wake-up call. From the events that have happened tonight, I can tell you two things. One, don't ever trust the guy you have fallen in love with at a bar. Two, don't leave your house without pepper spray that you normally carry with you. I have made both of those mistakes, and I'm going to regret everything. I walk out of the bathroom of the police station with two officers on each side of me. They are taking me to an interrogation room, I knew this before we even got to the door. I mean that is what they do in the movies and TV shows. I have to tell them the truth no matter what, if I don't there is no telling what kind or charges they will give me.
Sitting in the hard metal chair with two officers in front of you is intimidation, especially when you are a good person with not even a speeding ticket. I have never done anything wrong before, that should count for something. One of them speaks and knocks me out of the babbling in my mind. I hadn't looked at him before, I mean not really looked at him. When I first met him,he had told me his name, officer Leo. All I could see in the dark was broad shoulders, and messy hair. Now his hair was dirty blond and made to look nice, which makes me think he had just woken up when he got the call. He has strong arms and gorgeous blue eyes, maybe six foot tall. I didn't want to look away from him. But then the other spoke up asking me something that I couldn't understand.
His name is officer Charles, he is a real hard ass, I mean bad enough to where I would tell his to go f**k himself if i could. He has brown eyes, hair like a marine, and short with a fat belly. I can't even believe they would let him be in the force let alone try. He says the question again. “What do you remember from last night?” I look at him with tears in my eyes, trying to not let them spill over. “I drove him over to the store, he got out and some lighter fluid and matches. Then we went to my house.” I stopped and just looked at him. He looked at me like he was waiting for me to finish. “Around midnight he wanted to go over to his friend's house, Cavin Mapes, to hand out. That's what he told me, but it wasn't what i was told.'' I had to look down to stop the tears. When I started to talk again there was a hiccup in my voice. “They told me that if i don't take them to the bank and drive the car away that they would… rape and dump me in an alley. They burned my arm with the cigarette they were smoking.” I couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my face, I can't see any more from the tears. I pulled up my sleeve so they could see the burn.
“That's all we need to know for now, thank you for telling use your side of the story.”
Leo said, then turned so he was facing Charles, and started talking low thinking I couldn't hear him.
“She needs to go to the hospital and out into protective custody. I will take her and if you want to I can protect her till we can find someone else.”
“That's fine, go and take her. If you need anything before we get all of this straight, just let me know. Take her to the house off of Tail Trl.”
He nodded and walked over to me, I stood up ready to go. He grabbed my arm gently leading me to the door, I could feel the tension coming off of him.
Arriving at the hospital he finally spoke to me.
“The burn is really bad, do you know how long they kept the cigarette there on your arm?” I looked at him and shook my head no, not knowing how to react, maybe they had it on there for a couple of minutes or longer. All I know is that I was in so much pain I almost passed out. Walking in with him by my side was comforting, I don't know if it was because of the badge on his hip or the fact that it was just him. The nurse came right up and started to talk to Officer Leo, I stood there holding my arm. I wasn't paying attention to their conversation, till she looked at me and held out her hand. I took it, and shook her hand nicely. “Hi, I’m Nurse Valery. I’ve known this man for years, he will take good care of you. Now let's get that arm looked at, if you'll follow me.”
“This looks pretty deep, you must have been in some pain.”
I looked up from my arm as I was sitting on the exam table.
“Yea it hurt bad enough to where I almost passed out.”
She looked up at me with sorrow, I saw Leo tense in the corner of the room. I looked away from her gaze, not wanting to cry in front of them. She cleaned me up and let me go, Leo was looking at me on the way down in the elevator. I tried to act like I didn't see him, even though it was hard to not look myself. I could have stayed in that moment forever. The elevator doors opened and it was just like the floor we left, wight walls with blue lines down the middle, wight floor, and lights that if you looked up you would see spots. Walking down the hall was just like normal till I tripped over my own foot and almost hit the floor, but Leo caught me so fast it was unreal. The warmth from his arms burned through my shirt to my back and arms. I had to look into his eyes and I could swear that his eyes had glowed for a second. He lifted me up and made sure I wasn't going to fall again. Once he was comfortable that I had my balance he asked me if I was ok. I just nodded as an answer, I couldn't talk right now or the only thing that would have popped out was, what was wrong with your eyes.
Once we got out to the car he made sure to open the door for me. I crawled into the front seat and sat there buckling up before he could get around to his door. After he got in and settled into his seat I said thank you, he nodded and started the car up. As he drove to the house on Tail Trl., I watched trees and buildings go by. I couldn't help but think about the glow I had seen in his eyes, It could have been anything. Like a light hitting his eyes just right or a reflection. Nothing made sense about it in my mind on why his eyes glowed like that. Before I knew it he was turning onto a dirt road that had a sign that said Private Property. There were trees on both sides that looked like they had no end. The road seemed to go on for a couple of miles that felt like forever.
