That is the thing with feelings.
There is no manual about what is real and what is not.
You can feel things and mistake them for love, and one person once said that love and hate are similar.
You can’t fight it, but you can embrace it.
Bryan doesn’t see himself pretending.
He wanted a mate to complete him, someone he could proudly walk hand in hand with without hiding,
Just like Ashton he still hasn’t found his mate but deep down he hopes that he does.
The dinner ended sooner than expected.
Ann quickly ran to her room after but Taylor was watching.
People say that listening can take you a long way but observing is what can make you see all that is hidden.
From just looking at everyone at the table Taylor could easily tell what they were thinking.
The elders were obviously pissed which means that the King didn’t consult with them before making the decision.
When such an announcement is made the elders are usually happier than everyone.
This is because they know that with a new King.
There comes change and a young and not so wise King is easily controlled and manipulated.
The King was happy when he saw Taylor but the moment Ann entered the room his happiness died.
She is not blind and she can clearly see that he believes that women are inferior to men.
Which is why despite being stronger than Charles Ann isn’t in the council.
Another thing to support this was how his wife wasn’t happy as well.
Ashton is her son and his being crowned at such a young age would make any mother proud which means that just like the elders she wasn’t told.
There is Ann who was obviously scared to death.
When Taylor told her to join them for dinner she almost cried and she had to threaten her that was the only way she could convince her.
She has suspected the King for a long time and this was just confirmation.
Once Ashton becomes King, she is confident that he can fix everything.
Ashton watched as Taylor and her brother got into the car.
He also got into his car and headed straight to his apartment so that when Taylor arrived.
She would find him there so they could celebrate.
On the day of the ceremony.
Ashton was heading to work since the ceremony would be in the evening.
“Are you seriously going to work today?” asked Taylor who was still in bed.
She just woke up feeling like something was wrong.
She is the daughter of a powerful witch and The Dark Witch.
Taylor’s mother is well-known for the name The Dark Witch.
She practiced very dark and powerful magic and she had this premonition.
Taylor remembers everything about her mother, her smile.
How sometimes she would stay in bed because she felt like something would go wrong and it usually would.
Was she becoming like her mother?
Becoming evil?
She knew that she had this darkness inside of her.
The same darkness that consumed her mother and she had hoped that it wouldn’t consume her.
When her mother lost her other daughter.
She let the darkness in.
She let it consume her and she left her other two kids and her husband.
Taylor doesn’t know the pain of losing a child.
But she is determined that no matter how hard and painful life gets she won't let the darkness in.
She won't end up like her mother and be known as the Queen of Death.
“Hey Taylor, you did that thing you do a lot.
Like you were lost in your thoughts, what are you thinking?” asked Ashton as he sat on the bed near her feet.
“Nothing, I will be getting ready at home tonight so I will see you at the ceremony,” she said while getting up and sitting on his lap…
“After tonight, we can finally tell people that we are together.
I just don’t understand one thing, were are the two most powerful beings in the world and we have to see each other in secret,” he said clearly not happy with that.
They are powerful but for years they had to hide their relationship.
“We kept it a secret because we can't the people we love, in such matters, power doesn’t matter but time.
Once we tell them we can give them time to accept,” she said before taking out a box out of a drawer.
“This is a tie I want you to wear, it signifies a new beginning for you and me,” she said handing it to him.
Ashton looked at the woman on his lap.
After the ceremony, the world would finally know that she belonged to him and only him.
“I wish I could walk hand in hand with you to this ceremony.
I can't even smile at you during the ceremony or anywhere but that changes.
From tomorrow our lives will be better and happier,” he said while kissing her forehead
“I know, and although my facial expression at the ceremony will be of someone who looks bored and wants to strangle themselves. I want you to know that deep down I will be jumping with joy.
I really am proud of you and although I can't hold your hand and tell the whole world how much I love you I want you to know that I do,” she said before kissing his lips.
It was a small peck but just like always it moved his world.
He couldn’t help but feel like she was saying goodbye.
The way she said it and the sadness on her face when she said it and maybe he was reading too much into it all.
Tomorrow their new life would begin.
If someone had told 16-year-old him that he would fall in love with a feisty, powerful, and kickass girl like Taylor he would have laughed at them.
He wanted a quiet and peaceful life.
He dreamt that his mate would be a quiet, shy, caring, and kind girl.
She would be his Queen Luna and bare him pure-breed werewolf kids and they would be the perfect family but not anymore.
He wanted a messy life with Taylor, he loved the danger and uncertainty.
She once convinced him to steal the drops of protection.
It is a powerful potion, those who drink it are protected from death.
The portion protects those who drink it and they have gone on other adventures.
Who would want a quiet life when they can have all that danger?
He has never felt so alive than he is when he is with her, maybe the moon goddess made a mistake Taylor should have been his mate and no one else.
Later as he was getting ready with Bryan he took out the tie that Taylor bought him, inside there was a small note.
“Saw it looking all princely and I thought of my prince,” and then a smiley face.
She was right, the tie really did look princely and just like the rest of her notes, he put them in a small box.
He has been doing it for years now.
He can't seem to even throw away a note she writes.
Usually, it’s the girl who does all this but he wanted to hold on to her in every way…
“Stop daydreaming and let's get ready,” said Bryan.
They were currently at the packhouse where the ceremony was being held.
Finally, when everyone had arrived Ashton was asked to join…
As he was walking down the stairs his eyes landed on Taylor.
She smiled at him making him gain his confidence.
As he came to the podium where his family and the elders were, he felt it.
It was like a breeze and then a scent, the scent of a rose.
He started searching with his eyes without knowing who he was looking for.
His eyes finally landed on a young girl.
A beautiful girl with blonde hair, green eyes, and the sweetest smile, their eyes met and together they said the magic word
“Mate!”
