This time, I stable Doc soon as I hit town, order extra oats, then get a room at the Liberty Hotel. Only then do I set out to find Jack. When I see Fletcher, one of his deputies, I ask Jack’s whereabouts. Fletch says he’s around, not sure where, and moves on. I get a meal in the same place as last time, hoping Jack will come looking, but he doesn’t. I could hit a saloon, but know I may run into Lane, so I go to the ice cream parlor and have to laugh when I find Jack inside. “Dish of vanilla,” I order.
