"What do you mean you met your mate?!" Mom exclaims over the phone.
"Mom, please. Just calm down and I'll explain every-"
"No. I will not calm down. How could keep this from me?" She asks, hurt.
"I just met him the other day. So, technically, I didn't keep anything from you," I tell her, trying to appease her. She worries way too much. "I promise I won't do it again."
"Alright. When can I meet him?"
"Well, the thing is....you already have."
"November," she says sternly. I give in instantly.
"It's Alpha Reece," I say quickly, wanting to get this over with.
"Oh, sweetheart, I'm so happy for you," she squeals, excited.
"Mom, I'm sorr- What did you just say?"
"I said I'm happy for you," she says, laughing softly.
"Oh, okay. You're not mad?"
"No, my sweet girl. Alpha Reece seems like a great man."
"He is. Well, I'm going to get off here."
"Alright, baby."
"Bye, Mom."
"Bye, sweetie. I love you."
"Love you, too."

About an hour later, there's a knock on the door. I open the door, expecting to see Reece, only to find a blonde in a really short skirt and a tank top glaring at me. "Can I help you?"
She huffs, hands on her hips. "You sure can. Stay away from Reece, he's mine," she states, proudly.
I narrow my eyes. "Excuse me? He's my mate."
"Oh really. Then why did he skip his meeting to be with me last night?" She says with a triumphant smile. I slam the door in her face. I walk towards the living room, willing the tears not to fall. I fail miserably.
Sobbing, I sit down on the couch curling up in a ball. Why would Reece lie to me? It would explain why his "meeting" took longer than expected. Wiping the tears away, I grab my keys off the table in front of the couch. I get to my feet and go to my car. Starting it up, I back out of the driveway. I drive until I get to the park in the middle of town.
After putting the car in park and shutting the ignition off, I sit in the car thinking. I thought Reece was a good guy. I thought we would work out, but obviously, I was wrong.

Alpha Reece Teller-
I rub my eyes and take off my glasses. I'm so tired and I want to see November. I'm finishing up my work when there is a knock on the door.
I sigh. "Come in," I say.
A moment later, Angelique walks in. What the hell does she want? Angelique and I used to sleep together in high school, but when I told her I wanted my future mate and not her, she became clingy and obsessed with the idea of us being together. I have never felt that way towards her.
"What do you want?"
"Reece, don't be like that. I was thinking that maybe you could come over tonight," she purrs. I hate when women do that.
"No, I can't. I have other plans."
"You're talking about your mate, right? She doesn't deserve you," she spats.
"Yes, I met my mate. Is that all?" I'm starting to get impatient. I don't have time for this and frankly, I don't care what she has to say.
"I can give you a better life, and besides, I'm way more experienced."
"That's enough, Angelique. Get out of my office." She turns beet red before turning and running out of the room.
I groan. I'm getting way too old for this.
