CHAPTER 9 - Foolish Heart

Simone POV   “Charlotte…She is my mate.” That words keep ringing in my head that night, and I can’t turn back time. Oh my! Did I make the right decision by marrying him? I saw him sleeping beside me peacefully. He puts one hand on my waist, securing me as if he was scared that I might run away after I knew the fact. The way he treated his mate is making me confused. Shouldn’t he be more gentle? I don’t know. But why he even cast her away from this pack? It must be very humiliating for her. I started to felt sorry for Charlotte. I hope that we could meet again and have a talk as a friend, between two women. I was very unfamiliar with this whole “mate” thing. All I know is some fairytale story that the moon goddess destined a particular person to complete us. That person only belongs to me, as I also belong to him. I can’t deny that I was attracted to Marcus, but will I be happy if he wasn’t my mate? He was so gentle towards me but colds towards his own mate. My mind won’t stop thinking. I was unable to sleep. As I woke up, I saw the side of my bed empty. I got up and sat on my bed with my back resting on the headrest. Suddenly, the door went open, and I saw Marcus entered the room with a tray of food in his hands. “Marcus? I was looking for you just now.” I said, complaining. He put the tray on the table and walked towards me with a sexy smirk on his face. “Did you miss me?” He whispered in my ears, one hand on my waist and the other one at the side of my face. My common sense soon flew away and disappeared into thin air as soon as our skin touched. My blood was pulsing at high speed. It was intoxicating. I wonder how Charlotte would feel under his touch if I could be this excited even though I wasn’t his mate. “No!” I replied curtly. I deliberately say that just to annoy him. I shook off his hands from my face, then he pushed me down into the bed. “Really?” His hands roamed into my inner thigh as he kissed my neck. “Uh-huh…” I was still managed to reply even though my brain already half-frozen. “Then prove it!” he kissed me without mercy. His tongue was exploring inside my mouth skillfully. I was gasping for air, but he wouldn’t pull away. I rolled over so that my body was on top of him then pulled away. “You missed me… I can feel it.” He said with a satisfied smirk on his face. “You’re such a tease! I hate you.” I hit him several times on his chest then got up from the bed. He chuckled then grabbed my waist from behind. “Sit down and have your breakfast!” he said in amusement, but it sounded more like an order to me. He then started to feed me. “Ughhh… I hate porridge the most! Made me feel like a sick person.” I said as I swallowed the first spoon of porridge. “You are…It was easier to digest. So you have to finish it.” He said in a caring tone. “But it tastes so bland…” I complained. “Open your mouth…or I’ll kiss you again.” he threatens me. Actually, I would rather be kissed by him than eating this horrible porridge. But I don’t want to provoke him again, so I just decided to open my mouth and be a good girl. “I want to stroll around today, Marcus,” I said after I finished eating. “No, you should stay here and rest for today. You haven’t fully healed.” He directly turned down my request. “I am okay, Marcus. I was the strongest warrior in my pack, remember?” I told him, crossing my hands in front of my chest. “I said no, I want you to be fully healed before our wedding.” He said in a stern voice. I furrowed my eyebrow. “Because I want you to be fully prepared for our wedding night.” He then said. Making my face blushed. “Alpha, we need your help!” the door suddenly banged open. I saw a man came into the room with fear in his eyes. “What is it, Noah?” Marcus replied with a slight annoyance in his voice. “Charlotte, I just saw her at the cliff. I think she wants to kill herself, Alpha.” My eyes went wide. So this is why my dad never wanted me to meet my mate? It was up to the point that we could lose our minds and do a crazy thing like that. If these are the consequences, then I think I wasn’t ready to meet my mate for now. I felt Marcus's body tensed as he heard the news. He quickly got up and scurried out of the room. I was about to follow him when he suddenly halted and said. “Stay here, Simone! I’ll take care of this by myself.” There he did it again. He won’t allow me to help him and underestimated me. I hate it the most when he did this.   Marcus POV   Damn it, Charlotte! Why can’t you just go in peace? I said to myself as I shifted to my wolf form. I followed Noah, my beta, towards the woods. He led me deep into the wood. Why would Charlotte go this far? Noah finally stopped at the cliff. I saw Charlotte was still standing there. She was in her human form. “Charlotte, what are you doing?!” I asked in anger as soon as I shifted back towards my human form as well. She turned her heads slightly to her side but not looking directly at me. “Let me die, Marcus. There is no point for me to live anymore. My mate didn’t want me!” she said in pain. “Come here before I dragged you, Charlotte! It’s an order!” I said in a final tone, but she wouldn’t budge from her place. Instead, she stepped her feet forward, and before I could process it, she had jumped down from the cliff. “Charlotte!!” I heard Noah screamed her name. I quickly followed and jumped to catch her. Our body was fell towards the river below. After swimming against the heavy currents, I was finally able to pull her body out from the water.
