“Ms. Sinclair, please look at the camera for your picture.” The staff on the second floor ordered me and in a split second, a bright light flashed in front of my eyes, momentarily blinding me.
My foot is tapping on the floor underneath the table as I wait for my identification card to be finished.
After that rather eventful encounter involving the CEO as soon as I entered the Olympus building, I was quickly ushered to the office where they handle every employee’s identification.
It was pure luck that Ares Callisto, the man I slept with last weekend and turned out to be my boss, did not see me. I guess I could also thank my quick thinking when I ran to hide behind a tall plant at the side.
At this point, I planned to keep it that way. For him to never see me and realize who I am. At least, for as long as I could, because how long can an assistant really not see the person they were working for?
Out of nowhere, a woman dressed in hints of violet appeared next to me. I have to say, she made that color look so much more formal than it was. I have never seen anyone wear violet in an office setting.
She let her hand out before smiling at me. “Violet Audair, Mr. Ares’ secretary or head assistant. Welcome to the team, Ms. Lilith Sinclair.”
Violet. That was her name. Well, no wonder.
Before I could say anything else after shaking her hand, she quickly handed me a rather thick folder. I looked at it confused.
“I will need you to study and memorize everyone in that folder by next week. I expect you to know all four of your fellow assistants as you will work with us almost 24/7.” Violet says so naturally, as if she has been doing this at least once a week that she has gotten so used to it.
I wouldn’t doubt it if she had. Rumor has it that Mr. Callisto doesn’t really have a good reputation at keeping assistants. Based on the spectacle later, I have a strong feeling as to why.
“Sorry, I meant three assistants. You’re the fourth,” Violet corrected with a small smile.
Did she just say Mr. Callisto has four assistants? Whoa, and I thought two were a lot. I guess hiding from my own boss won’t be that difficult when there are three others to hide behind.
See? It’s already not so bad, Lily.
“Got it, Ms. Aud–”
“Violet. Just call me Violet. We are on a first name basis around here, thus Mr. Ares.” She corrected before walking away, but turned back to me. “Ah, is it Lilith or Lily?” She asked and I was surprised for a quick second, not used to being called by my nickname in the office.
“Lily is fine, Miss– uh, I mean, Violet.”
She nodded with a smile. “Once you get your ID, please come up to the top floor.” And then off she went, her black and violet heels echoed in the small office.
“Here you go, Lily Sinclair. Take utmost care of your ID. It’s your access to everything. Doors, cafeteria, whatever. Lose it, you pay for a new one.” The man who could care less passed me the piece of hard plastic and went back to typing on his computer and chewing gum with his mouth open.
“Wonderful,” I said sarcastically as soon as I got out of the office and saw my face on the ID.
It looked like someone had flashed my eyes and made me look terrified. At least, though, my hair looked nice. Thank you, Charlotte, for lending me your airwrap.
As soon as I stepped into the elevator, I had to take an incredibly deep breath to calm me down. Okay, more than one deep breath.
Even after the fifth one, I still felt nervous. I guess if my new boss was not someone I slept with, then this would have been way less troublesome for me, but guess what? I already did it so now I just have to woman up and move on.
“God, why the hell did you have to sleep with the first guy you bumped into the club though?! You’re such an i***t, Lily!” I reprimanded myself in the elevator, letting out incoherent noises as I tried hard not to ruffle my hair too messily.
“Top floor,” the elevator sounded off and I quickly recomposed myself, dusting my clothes and brushing my hair with my hands as fast as I could.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, I was immediately at a loss for words at the sight that beheld me.
The office was not at all how it seems from the outside. Its exterior looked like a dark black bat cave, but interior-wise, it was like an indoor garden, complete with swings, a pond, and the pantry was made to look like a woodsy cafe.
Oh my god, I think I’m in nature heaven.
“Cool, right?” I turned to my left and a man that looked to be in his mid twenties was holding onto a cup of coffee while looking at the office floor with me. He also had a hint of an English accent.
“Mr. Ares has a thing for nature. It’s the only floor with that theme, but the other floors have their own design as well. You should go to the eighth floor and make sure to try the candied apples.” The man turned to me with a smile and it seems he realized that I had no idea who he was because he quickly introduced himself.
“Ah, my name’s Elliot. Elliot Mills. I’m guessing you haven’t gone through the names?” His eyes move downward to the thick folder Violet gave to me earlier.
I slowly shook my head and gave him a sheepish smile. “Not yet.”
He chuckled lightly and a dimple formed on his cheeks. Behind his round glasses, his blue eyes squinted a bit. No doubt he had this boy next door charm to him.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s a bit overwhelming at the beginning, but I’m happy to help. Besides, our tables aren’t far from each other.” He pointed to the area where there seemed to be a mini glasshouse, leaves and different colored flowers growing around it.
“s**t,” Elliot muttered out of nowhere as he pulled out his phone and I caught a glimpse of the caller ID.
It said T-Rex. Did he mean the actual dinosaur?
“I gotta take this. It’s the product development department head. But before I go,” Elliot leaned closer to me before speaking in a lower volume. “I’ll let you in on a tip. Don’t go past the glasshouse if you don’t want to encounter the moss monster.”
My brows furrowed in confusion at his words, but he turned around and walked away before I could say anything else.
“Nice meeting you, Lily Sinclair!” He shouted while waving his hand without looking back.
Wait, when did I tell him my name? I don’t remember saying it.
“Oh my god, what if I have a file that was given to the other assistants as well?” I asked myself in a hushed tone, feeling rather uneasy knowing someone was reading things about me.
“Lily, there you are.”
I am brought back to the present to see Violet looking at me.
“Come. A lot of little duties to be done for you. I will lead the way.”

A few hours later, my first day at the office passed by just like that. They had given me a lot of tasks that seemed rather small, but if you combined it all together, it took up quite some time especially when I had to study and memorize different people at the side.
Since I was coming from a human resources position, I was used to talking to people practically every hour of every day. It is quite literally what my role was all about since I had to hire and assess different people.
I thought that this would be easier, but it seems I was somewhat wrong.
“Aaaah, I’m tired.” I exhaled, stretching my arms and legs, and momentarily closing my eyes.
“Welcome to Olympus!”
Flustered by the sudden voice that came out of nowhere, my eyes shot open, and I stared wide-eyed at the person in front of me.
A woman, dressed in yellow from top to bottom. She looked like a flower amongst all nature around us with her light brown hair and eyes. She was pretty, and I think I remember her from the assistant list.
“Miss… Carolina Daisy?” I said, unsure.
Her face formed a big smile. “And don’t you forget it. Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Lilith Sinclair. Lily is your nickname though, right? Did you know that yellow lilies symbolize happiness, good health, gratitude, and healing?”
Wow, she is definitely the talker, just as her file said so.
Carolina Daisy has worked as Mr. Ares’ spokesperson for over five years now. She graduated from an Ivy League in California, and it has always been her dream to work for Olympus. She would never have it any other way.
Her watch started to beep out of nowhere and she muttered something incoherent before turning back to look at me.
“Do me a favor, yellow Lily?”
“Wha–”
She passed a small white box to me before I could even reply.
“Once you reach the end of the glasshouse, take another five steps, turn right, and then leave this on the black wooden table there. Thanks! I owe you one!” Carolina turned around and quickly hopped away from my desk.
Man, is it just me or are the employees here all fast-moving? It’s like they’re always on the go.
I let out a deep sigh before looking down at my hand that was now holding onto a white box.
“I wonder what you are…” I stared at it, turning it around to see if I could get a glimpse of what was inside, but it was too tightly closed so my attempts were to no avail.
Standing up from my seat, I made my way to where Carolina told me to go. I passed by a wooden clock and saw that it was past six in the evening so after this, I would be able to go home, and home was definitely where I wanted to be. My legs were killing me from doing so many errands around the office.
Although, I was thankful that I was all over the place instead of just being seated. This way, chances of bumping into my boss would be much less and I truly hope he doesn’t see me any time soon.
“Okay, she said at the end of the glasshouse, take five steps…” I counted one to five in my head as I stepped, and stopped when I saw a corner that looked dimly lit before proceeding.
When I saw another office, one that was so much bigger and much more private as the windows were not see-through, my feet stopped moving when I remembered what Elliot told me earlier.
“Don’t go past the glasshouse if you don’t want to encounter the moss monster.”
Oh my god… did he… did he mean that the moss monster was Mr. Ares and this was his office?!
Suddenly, I heard the sound of two people talking and immediately looked around to find where I could hide.
This cannot be how I’m going to get found out! Not on my first day!
Luckily, I saw the black wooden table and it was big enough to cover most of my body. I make an immediate run for it, praying to the gods that the two people don’t show up just yet.
“I’ll look over the revenue changes a little later. Have a good rest of your evening.”
I swallowed nervously, my hands immediately landing on my mouth as I tried my best not to make a single noise.
That voice. Oh god, that voice was too familiar even my body knew as I felt tingles down my spine. It was so deep and so smooth that I was transported to the other night when he whispered seductive things to my ears.
Fuck! Get a hold of yourself, Lily! Stop fantasizing over the man you are trying to hide from!
“You know, Mr. Ares, my father knows the chef at the new Michelin restaurant around the area. If you don’t mind, I think a change of setting while working would be good for the two of us, don’t you think?”
I heard the voice of a woman and suddenly, I was intrigued. Not only because she talked as if she was purring, but also at the bewildering fact that she just asked out Mr. Ares so blatantly.
Who was this woman?
Curious, I moved as slowly as I could to get a teeny tiny look at who it was that had the guts to talk to him in that way.
I figured if she was in the office and if they were talking about revenue, then she had to work here as well. Maybe she was of a higher position and they have been working closely for a while hence why she can talk to him so casually?
Wait, why am I even overthinking this? Lily… are you jealous?!
When I managed to get a peek of the woman and him, I had two reactions.
One, this woman dressed way too short for the office and her silver hair was as straight as a ruler.
Two, Mr. Ares in that all dark gray suit and tie was definitely doing something to me and if I don’t look away I don’t think I’ll be able to control myself any longer.
I heard Mr. Ares clear his throat and I lowered my head down again, in fear of being seen.
“I appreciate the invitation, but I work better in the office. Send my regards to your father, Ms. Greene.”
Ms. Greene. That was her name.
Wait… did that mean that Elliot meant she was the moss monster because of the color green? Whoa, that was a pretty good observation, Lily.
Next time, I should clarify things before assuming that my boss was the monster. I can only imagine that that would not have gone too well if I accidentally told Elliot I thought our boss was the monster he was talking about.
I heard Ms. Greene let out an awkward chuckle to appease the thick air that surrounded the two. “Of course. Right. Well, have a pleasant evening as well, Mr. Ares. I am always just a call away.”
Wow, this woman was not giving up. Note to self: Ask Elliot who the moss monster is to Mr. Ares.
When I heard footsteps, I quickly scooted to the edge of the table nearer the wall so I could hide myself further, not wanting to get my cover blown. Especially not by a little miss seductress over there.
Once she was gone, I breathed out a sigh of relief by habit, forgetting that I was still not in the clear. I panicked and accidentally dropped the white box I was asked to drop off, making a noise that I was sure Mr. Ares would have heard.
Fuck, I’m screwed.
With only a second to think of an escape, I saw a relatively big enough fake bush to use for hiding and I crawled my way to it, mentally thanking myself for wearing pants today.
I watched as Mr. Ares approached the table where I had just been hiding a second ago. The closer he got, the more I was able to take a better look at him, and I don't even know how it was possible, but he looked to have become more handsome overnight.
Was it the way his hair was pushed back and gelled to stay in place or the seriousness in his expression that was starting to make me feel wet? Damn it.
Either way, I had no choice but to keep my mouth shut and my body frozen if I still wanted a job by tomorrow.
Mr. Ares leaned forward and I instinctively froze up a little more, praying repeatedly in my head for him not to sense that someone was behind the bush right next to him.
Thankfully, and I mean really thankfully, he just grabs the white box on the floor, looks at it confused for a few seconds before walking away with it.
Earlier it was a tall plant, now it was a bush. Safe to say, nature was on my side today.
I let out the biggest sigh of relief as soon as I knew he was gone and ran as fast as I could away from there.
Shit.
One day down… whoever knows how many more days to come.
—
Ares Callisto was distracted.
So much so that he couldn’t decide if he wanted to increase the workers in the product development team or lessen them, and he never doesn’t know the answer to things like that.
This is his forte, after all. Everything about business, he knew it like the back of his hand. He was born and raised to be the best CEO, strategically and critically.
Frankly, the only thing Ares was not good at is not being good at something.
“Mr. Ares? Have you decided?”
He cleared his throat as he shook his head and looked at Elliot, his assistant in charge of talking with most of the other departments on his behalf.
He was the youngest in his assistant team, aging twenty six years old. At least, before he hired the new one. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about since he woke up this morning.
“Yes. Transfer someone from team two to one. Team one started the project so they need more help.” Ares informed Elliot and this made his assistant look at him unsure for a few seconds before nodding his head in agreement.
“Got it, Mr. Ares. I’ll head over to their floor and inform them right now.” Elliot smiled, because although he knew that transferring someone to another team seemed like an unusual decision, he also knew that his boss was his boss for a reason, meaning he knew what he was doing way more than he did.
Ares watched as his assistant started walking to his door to exit his office, but a part of him was somewhat telling him to just say it and before he knew it, he had called out for his assistant.
“Elliot,” he said and this made the man turn back around to him with a look of questioning on his face.
“The, uh–” He cleared his throat. “The new assistant. Has she arrived?”
As soon as Ares asked, he regretted it. He wondered if Elliot might have caught something unusual in his question, but at the same time he thought that there could be nothing wrong with the boss asking about an employee, right?
He hoped so. The last thing he needs is raising suspicions.
“Oh, yes, Mr. Ares. Violet was with her earlier for her ID and I’m sure she’ll be on the floor soon. Do you want me to call for Ms. Lily?”
“No!” He quickly declined, much too aggressively. “I mean… no need. Just making sure she’s on time. If she does one thing wrong, make sure to tell me. I will not stand for any employee who does a subpar job.”
Ares was quick to add something that he knows would make Elliot realize he only meant business, but deep down inside he doesn’t think he can actually fire her. At least, before he has even seen her.
“Of course, Mr. Ares. But between you and I, I think Ms. Lily seems like a promising addition to the team.” Elliot commented with a soft giggle before stepping out of the office.
Ares bit his lip in thought, Elliot’s words repeating in his head, just as her name stuck to him.
“Lily…” Her name rolls off his tongue laced with desire, their passion-filled night flashing in his head like a still of photos and videos on repeat.
“Let’s hope I don’t regret hiring you… Lily.”
