For a while, Vivian sat on her hands as she silently watched the scenery go by. This here was deliverance country. She saw old women hanging clothes on lines and dirty children playing in the dirt. It was ugly, and yet she reserved judgment. This was their lot in life. They had not chosen it; and yet, they looked happy – or at least content in a way that her wealthy associates seldom appeared to be. If given the choice, she wondered if they would exchange their lives for hers. It was impossible to even hazard a guess… There was so much to see over a very short distance and, before she knew it, they’d arrived. The parking lot was nothing but a cleared spot of land. Vivian could see a trail that led into the trees but, so far, she couldn’t see anything that resembled a chapel or a temple. N
