The moonlight was blindingly bright, and like a beacon of light, it highlighted Grace's path as she stumbled through the woods, panting and looking over her shoulder every few seconds. Branches snagged at what remained of her bloodied and tattered clothes. She was barefoot, so the broken twigs, sharp stones, and debris dug into the sole of her feet. Still, she kept going, pushing pass the thick vegetation and her limits, her heart pounding in her chest at the possibility of freedom. Behind her she could hear the faint voices giving chase. They were frantic, angry, and very much faster than her.
