The power that enveloped the room ignited a light that was so immense, it would blind anyone that would look directly into the eyes of it.
“Probudi se iz kletve koja te veže za spavanje!”
He and his mother repeated this incantation over and over, their power beginning to grow evermore, and yet there was nothing happening.
It was as if the wording was right and the power that juiced it up was far more than sufficient enough, but it wasn’t the right mix.
“Keep trying!” Kane bellowed in demand through the whirring sound of power that overtook the room. “Keep saying it! It will break! The curse will break!”
He was obviously trying to make himself believe this more than anyone else.
“Probudi se iz kletve koja te veže za spavanje!” They continued but to no avail.
The magnitude of their power only seemed to grow but without success to the problem that they were attempted to solve.
“I can’t!” Abigail said to her son. “I cannot hold it any longer!” She looked at him as the power radiating from her spun out of control, sending her along with everyone else back with a force that knocked most of them unconscious.
Jeriko quickly recovered and rushed to his mother's side to assure that she was alright. “You okay?” He asked in the Gemini tongue.
She nodded with a pained yet empathic smile before he helped her up. Abigail barely stood steady before Kane rushed them, reaching for her.
Jeriko intercepted his advance, taking his arm and pushing him back. “You’d better think twice about that.” He cautioned in anger.
Kane watched him, enraged, though seeming to know that he should not test his luck-even with the fact that he had Jeriko Valentine over a barrel. He snatched his gaze away from Abigail’s son and switched his glare to her. “You caused this! It’s because of you that this is not working! You’re sabotaging this whole operation on purpose-”
“Or maybe, it’s as I warned you before Kane,” Abigail spoke up to defend herself. “You need a special power for this incantation to succeed. You think because you have two powerful beings to juice up the spell that it will work! It doesn’t work like that; you of all people should realize this. Or is your name of the all-knowing leader of the Zodiac, just a title?
“I’m pretty sure it’s just a title, mother.” Jeriko glowered, his eyes steadily attentive to Kane’s every move.
“Don’t you dare patronize me, Abigail!” He hissed. “You know what I am capable of-”
“And you...know what I am capable of Kane.” She rebounded. “Which is why you need me.”
He stood there, staring at her in momentary silence, a harsh grimace upon his face as he watched her. Then a small smile appeared. “I may need you-but apparently, I don’t need him.”
“Let’s face it, Kane.” Jeriko hissed. “Even if you didn’t need me...which I’m sure you must feel that you do; considering the fact that you went through all of the trouble, if anything happens to either one of us….you will see a hell that this world is not prepared for.”
“Then why don’t you just release this hell?’ Kane said, brow raised. “Why not just kill me and do as you wish.”
“You know why.” Jeriko hissed, frustration filling him as he still had to consider that his mother’s life was affected by whatever happened to Kane. He had to tread lightly because he didn’t know the full extent of the curse placed on his mother. He wouldn’t forgive himself if something happened to her because of his reckless actions-the same way that things happened...with Aurora.
“We will revisit this,” Kane demanded. He inched himself closer to Abigail. “You’d better find a way to awaken him, Abigail.” His hand started to reach for her when he suddenly thought better of it, remembering that her son was standing there, glaring at him. “I’d hate to have to lose you, love.” He added and then exited the room where Christoph’s comatose body lay. “Return them to their respective places!” He demanded of the guards, standing on each side of the door.
As Kane said this, his fingers snapped and the chains that bound Jeriko and his mother by power and by physical means were suddenly re-attached to their wrists.
While they were being escorted out of the room, Jeriko watched the unconscious man that Kane seemed to be so heavily obsessed with.
“Is that….really him, mother?” He asked. “Is that really the man that started it all?”
Abigail looked at Jeriko after a moment of staring at her feet. “Yes.” She answered him. “He is.”
He looked at the sleeping man that laid there, his eyes open in what looked like pain...what kind of pain, Jeriko wasn’t sure. The only thing that Jeriko was sure of was that he did not want to face whatever power had the means to put down the King of the Zodiac, himself.
“The father of all sorcery…” He whispered. “Who could have had the power….to do this?” He asked. It was rhetorical but it didn’t mean that he wasn’t open to an answer from his mother if she knew.
“A goddess.” She answered him.
Jeriko looked at his mother incredulously. “A goddess?! What-how could-”
Abigail sighed, chuckling lightly as she said. “Oh, sweetheart, there is a whole lot that you should know about that man there.” She grimaced, cutting her eyes as they were forced down the long dark corridors that would inevitably lead to their prison.
“Seems you have somewhat of an issue with him,” Jeriko noticed.
“He’s not my favorite sorcerer, no.” She countered. “Least of all, person.”
Jeriko could judge from her expression that she had a lot of resentment towards this guy. He figured he’d find out more about this all later.
“Have you met him?” Jeriko reluctantly asked. "You know...in person...while he was conscious?"
He noticed how his mother didn’t look at him as she answered. “Yeah, I have.” She finally replied after a moment of silence.
She had suddenly sunk into herself with his probing questions, and while he knew that she was probably close to shutting down, he wanted to know; “So, is that all I get for now?” He asked.
Abigail sighed. “Yeah….” She replied before they arrived at the cells.
The guards opened the doors. “Alright, you two.” The one said.
Before she stepped into her respective cell, she turned and faced her son. “For now.” She smiled. “But I haven’t forgotten….we have a lot to catch up on.”
Jeriko smiled. “Haven’t forgotten about that either.”
