TRISH POV An hour later… Andrew dismissed the waiter who took our food orders. He never ate in a simple restaurant; hence his choice was to have our early dinner in a five-star hotel serving the best Angus steak in the metropolis. We were seated facing each other. Earlier, I asked him why we suddenly needed to talk, but he refused to disclose anything. He just drove us to this hotel in silence. Several guests were looking at him as we were guided to our table. Andrew could still draw attention from people. It was no longer a surprise for me, he looked like a foreigner and very tall. He definitely looked better than an ordinary man. At this time, Emily might be hitting the highest curiosity level wanting to find out the result of this conversation with Andrew. But that was my question too. What the hell do we need to discuss after four years of no communication? I definitely have nothing to discuss with him. I asked everything I needed for my thesis during our meeting and that was it for me. I wanted this conversation to end as soon as possible; hence, I initiated the conversation. I was not too fond of his gaze on me. I was wondering why he still looked at me like that? Was he not in a relationship? What happened to his girlfriend? The slut that made me cut ties with him? Nevertheless, for the sake of getting it over with, I maintained my composure and asked him calmly. “Andrew, what is this all about?” I looked icy-cold. I was also surprised by my voice, unlike before my voice was always shaky. His mesmerizing eyes looked at me again and he said “I know we should have this serious talk a long time ago. But you were irrational then. You won’t accept any truth aside from what you believed in.” Hearing what he said, I almost blurted out hurtful words to but instead, I kept my voice tone, calm and soft. "I know that Andrew, but it was all in the past. What good would it do now? You have a life and it doesn't concern me, likewise, I have mine and it does not concern you," I continued to stare at him blankly. “Trish, if you just listened to me, we won’t be ending up in a divorce,” Andrew hissed and continued to talk as if he didn't hear my response. Hah? Did he regret agreeing to the divorce? Goodness, it was too late for that Andrew- I shook my head before I replied to him. “There’s no good discussing the past, Andrew. Let’s close the book. We have our separate lives now.” I loved the way I spoke under the intense pressure of his hawk-like eyes. Four years did a lot of good to me. I was poised and confident. Well, except for the stupid episode of almost passing out on our first day of the meeting and not slapping him when he kissed me, I think I could handle him better now. That passing out incident was due to shock and he couldn't shock me now. “That’s the point. If we didn't go through the divorce process, we wouldn’t be talking about it now.” He said impatiently. Our food was served by a petite waitress who kept her eyes on him. My focus was diverted when she arrived, on guard while she served us the food because I was scared she would trip the food on us since she was too engrossed with him. Fortunately, nothing bad happened. The delicious steaks were already in front of us. Andrew motioned for us to start eating. I touched the salad first and asked… “What do we need to talk about regarding the divorce, Andrew?” I hated spending time with him more than necessary. The soonest we finished addressing his concerns the better. “Well, I recently found out that it wasn’t final. We are not yet divorced.” He blurted out the news. That was like a bomb that exploded in our midst. I stopped chewing the vegetable on my mouth when I swallowed it, hence, it was stuck in my throat. I coughed it out strongly and repeatedly. It took a while before I was able to utter a word. My breathing almost stopped, and my eyes were watery. Then I asked him… “What the hell are you talking about?” there, I lost my cool. Andrew smiled evilly at me. Well, this handsome beast has that wicked side of him, most especially when we were intimate. He could really turn into an insatiable beast. Goodness Trish, what were you thinking? “My dearest Trish, we are not divorced yet. You are still my wife.” He said while he smirked. I totally lost my appetite, and I exclaimed. “You must be joking!” I knew my face has turned crimson. I could feel all the blood in my veins surged upwards. I closed my eyes momentarily. I was hoping that when I opened my eyes, I would wake up from the nightmare. But Andrew’s voice snapped me back from my wishful thinking. “Trish, don’t worry, I can still give the divorce to you by re-filling it. However, it would help if you'll cooperate with me first. Then I will give you what you want.” The treacherous beast was playing tricks on me. I knitted my eyebrows. I knew it all along; he wanted something from me. I wanted that divorce so much I could lick his ass to get it. s**t!, What are you talking about? His ass? That means you would see him again nak*d. Believe me... you were not up for that boldness. Shut up, Trisha!- Maintain your cool. I swallowed the thick liquid in my throat. “What do you want from me?” I asked coldly. I was on pins and needles inside but I wouldn't give him the pleasure to see my helplessness. He smiled again wickedly and said, “Believe me, dearest, you won't want to know everything that I want from you!” Shivers ran through my bones. “Cut the crap, Andrew. What do you want me to do?” I said vehemently. “Be my wife again,” he said expressionlessly. I was rendered speechless for a while and when I recovered I asked... “What?” “At least for the time being. Then after that, we could file again for a divorce.” Andrew said calmly. “How long? And why do I need to pretend to be your wife?” I asked desperately. His wife. Good heavens! “Did I say pretend Trish?” He looked at me seductively. “s**t Andrew, don’t play games with me!” I uttered agitatedly. “What happened to your tongue, dearest? Why did it turn so filthy?” He looked at me intensely again. “Aren’t you gonna talk like that if you are in my position?" I asked calmly this time. “Alright! Since it's really a piece of shocking news. I will let you vent out your anger. But I am not joking when I said you need to cooperate with me and be my wife again for a period of one year or so.” He said as if he was mocking me. “Why?” I did not want any part of it but I knew Andrew. He was hard to cross. “Because I don’t want to be assigned to another location again. Which oftentimes happened to unmarried directors. They keep reshuffling us for the past two years, and I have a feeling they will send me to the ends of earth next reassignment. I got tired of moving around. I want to settle here first for a year or so and probably find a real family when the divorce is final. Meantime, I was hoping you could post as a wife, but it should not be a pretense. The hospital's protocol for this was stiff. They will find out the truth; therefore, you need to fill that spot right the soonest.” Shit! This is insane. I couldn't believe this was for real. I was about to protest when he talked again… “Also, my grandma here, the mother of my Dad, will live with me for a year. I don’t want her to be bothered by my affairs because her condition was not good. She knew I am married and looking forward to meeting you. She will be arriving next week from the province. I expect you to have moved in with me this Monday at lastest, so you may adapt to my place accordingly before she even notices there’s something wrong in our marriage. It’s not good for her condition.” He said like a machinegun. As I listened to what he said, I feel that my world collapsed little by little. Everything was falling, and I was about to be eaten by the ground and sink deeply and deeply until I rest ten feet below the ground. Damn it! I am freaking out! I wanted to walk out of the room but my hands were tied. I wanted that divorce as soon as possible and Andrew would never cooperate with me if I disagree with him right now. How could he hold all the cards and made my life miserable again? What the hell happened to my orderly and simple life?
