15. The Offering

682 Words
Two Days Later... - Ember Holbrook -   I'm standing in the kitchen of Troy's house when my phone chimes urgently, alerting me of a call. Hopefully, the person on the line is Jeremy Frasier from Berg & Abraham Publishing. After Troy told me to take the job offer from them, I made sure I wouldn't be working for Jeremy himself, but someone in his division. Troy has told me of his track record with women around him and I don't know how I feel about working closely with him.   I nab my phone just in time to answer. "Hello?"   "Is this Ember Holbrook?" A somewhat deep voice questions.   "Speaking."   "This is Jeremy Frasier," he explains.   "Oh. How are you?"   I hear him chuckle. "I'm just fine. I was calling to inform you of your application status. Unfortunately, the position with Mrs. Anderson, the woman who displayed the position, has been revoked due to a mistake in the board meetings. Fortunately for you, you will still have a job offer here at Berg & Abraham as my assistant. That's if you accept it," he says.   My face falls and my heart plummets. I sigh as tears form in my eyes and the decision for his offer is made. "I appreciate your offer, Mr. Frasier, but I'm afraid I have to decline," I tell him.   He sighs in what sounds like irritation. "Miss Holbrook, you have a lot of potential and could be a vital resource for Berg & Abraham. I advise that you think your decision through before committing yourself."   "Thank you," I say and hang up.   I stand at the counter in a daze until I hear Troy say something. I turn around to face him. "I'm sorry. What was that?"   He smirks and places his coffee cup in the sink. "I asked who was on the phone," he responds, coming to wrap his arms around me.   I snuggle into his warm chest and burrow my nose in his neck, thankful for the comfort that envelopes me. It's a feeling only Troy can give me. "Jeremy Frasier," I whisper.   "Did you take the job?"   I shake my head, fresh tears surfacing, and blurring my vision. Troy pulls back from me with a frown on his face. "Baby, why are you crying?" He says, concerned.   I sniffle and force a laugh. "I'm fine. It's nothing," I tell him, my tone unconvincing.   His lips form a grimace. "You're not fine, Em. Far from it," he replies, watching the color of my eyes. "Are you going to tell me?"   I sigh to calm down, but it comes out shaky. "I turned down the job, but Jeremy advised that I think my decision through. I'm so confused right now, Troy."   He nods in understanding and hoists me up onto the counter. He moves to stand between my legs, his hands on my thighs. "What makes you happy, Em?" He asks.   "What?"   "What do you want out of life? What is it that makes you happy?"   My response to his question is immediate. "Being with you makes me happy. And if I'm working for my mother at the bakery ten years from now, I will be happy with my life as long as I have you."   His eyes flare with want and his hands move further up my thighs. He masks the look, though, and gives me a long, hard kiss that leaves my lips swollen. "Do what makes you happiest, babe. All that matters is your happiness," he tells me, kissing the corners of my mouth.   I tilt my head to the side. "Is that a weird way of you asking me to 'do' you?" I ask curiously. "You don't need to ask, Hon. You're quite skilled when it comes to pleasing a woman. I should be asking you to do me."   He chokes back a laugh. "Silly woman," he mutters, shaking his head. "It's refreshing to know you love my d**k that much, baby. Way to boost the ego," he jokes.   I slap his chest, a blush on my face. "I love you, my sexy man."   He grins and kisses my nose. "I love you, too, my Ember. And by the way, you can 'do' me anytime, sweetheart."
