Rebirth 4 Meeting My Fiancee
“Marquess BrighttHeart, we hope that we were not imposing on you today.”
A man in his thirties laughed in a good way towards the Marquess, who was also laughing at the man good-naturedly.
“Duke, that is not true at all. Having you here in my humble abode is my honor. The Duke is welcome here anytime.”
The Marquess laughed happily as he led the family of three to the guest hall.
Sitting down, the two old men talked with each other.
“Marquess BrightHeart, why don’t I see the little lady? Where is your daughter, Violet?”
The Duchess, who had been quiet all this time, could not help but ask the Marquess for the whereabouts of her soon-to-be daughter-in-law.
She was very excited about meeting the daughter of her dearest friend.
“Violet?”
The Marquess's sweat dropped on hearing Violet’s name.
He had clearly told her to arrive before lunch but the little brat was still not there.
Not her fault though, the group of three arrived way too early than the time agreed upon.
“Duchess, you know little girls nowadays, they grow up so fast. She must be dolling herself up in her room, this is, after all, the very first time that she will meet her fiancee.”
“Haha… You are right, Marquess.”
“Just like your little girl, our son is also looking forward to meeting her. I really wonder what your little girl looked like. I had never seen her before.”
“Duke, she must be lovely. She was, after all, Lilian’s daughter. She would surely take after her.”
“You are right. The child would surely look like her.”
Talking about the birth mother of Violet, the group seemed to have developed a heavy and awkward atmosphere.
“Uhm...”
“Ow. I apologize, Marquess BrightHeart. I did not intend to bring up such a heartbreaking topic for you.”
Seeing the look in Marquess BrightHeart’s face, the Duchess quickly apologized to him.
She brought out a very painful topic for the Marquess.
“It's alright, Duchess. But I do agree, my little girl really looked like her mother. Well, except for those eyes…..”
The Marquess's last sentence was said in a very low voice that even he himself found it hard to hear.
Remembering that time, when his eyes caught hers, never would he believe that such cold and indifferent eyes would belong to such a child.
A child at ten at that.
Those eyes she had, looking at them, a face of a person that he both feared and revered merged with her image.
Those cold eyes of hers really looked the same to that man, it was so the same that it brought chills to his spine just thinking about it.
“Marquess, Lady Violet is here.”
A woman in a maid outfit announced the arrival of Violet to the group of four.
Hearing her, the group of four looked at the door, and a pretty little lady that looked like a doll stepped in from those doors.
Hair as white as snow and eyes as bright as the sun, the petite lady dressed in blue would surely be a woman that could cause a nation’s downfall in the future. Many men would surely fall to her knees to beg for her attention.
Looking at the little girl, the four seemed to be in a trance for a moment.
Graceful like a swan, Violet courtesies the guest.
“Greetings Marquess, Duke, and to the Duchess… and to this young Lord.”
Hearing her gentle voice, the four were then snapped awake.
“Ow.”
Blinking their eyes for a second, they tried to process the things happening in their surroundings.
The first to snap in this blank state was the Marquess, who then coughed.
Hearing the Marquess's low but loud cough, the trio scratched their cheeks in embarrassment.
“Wahh! She truly looked like Lilian! Even at such a young age, she was already very pretty, like a doll. How much more, when she grows up, surely, many suitors will come knocking on your door, Marquess.”
Clapping her hands together, the Duchess dispersed the awkward atmosphere that seemed to have appeared from out of nowhere.
“You flatter me, Duchess Moore.”
“It's not a joke, Marquess BrightHeart, your daughter is really such a beauty. I was even entranced by her “cuteness” just now. She will really grow up as a beauty just like my cousin Lilian.”
The Duke also supported his Duchess's words. His words were not mere flattery but the real truth.
“Hahaha… Thank you, Thank you, Duke Moore.”
While the adults were speaking, the two young children stayed quiet. One was indifferent and the other mad.
Listening to his father, Mother and the Marquess's conversation, the young man who seemed to be in a bad mood glared at Violet, who only indifferently treated him like air.
Being ignored like this, the young man who was used to being praised by his fellows felt like his ego was hit by a truck and dumped in the trash.
A mere girl who was only ten years old, with not even a spiritual pet, dared to ignore him!
She really thought highly of herself!’
Thinking of embarrassing Violet, the young man conceitedly smiled and mocked her worth.
“Mother, Father, you praised her too much. She is not that pretty.”
“Byron!”
The Duchess, who heard her own son mocking his own fiancee right in front of her and his father, even right in front of the Marquess, felt like her face was slapped. She felt really embarrassed about her son’s behavior.
“Byron, that is not how a gentleman talks to a lady.”
The Duke, who was also ashamed of his son's attitude, quickly scolded him. He really felt ashamed.
“………….”
The Marquess, who heard his daughter being mocked, only stayed quiet. He neither knows what to say nor he can’t offend the Duke.
“Father, Mother, I am only saying what I feel. I really felt that she is really not that pretty.”
Byron, who had never been scolded before, burned in shame and in anger at being scolded in front of other people and, most of all, because of a lowly girl.
Being scolded by his parents, Byron could not help but glare at the source of his problems.
“Byron, you better apologize to Violet right now. This is not how I thought you how to treat a lady properly.”
“Mother…..”
“Byron, listen to your mother. Apologize to Violet right now.”
“Duke, Duchess, there is no need.”
Seeing the situation worsening, the Marquess tried to calm the two, but it was of no use.
“No, Marquess. My son should apologize, even if it is not Violet, a gentleman must always know how to treat a lady right.”
“My wife is right, Marquess. We apologize for my son’s behavior. I am truly ashamed.”
“No, no, no.”
“Byron, apologize now.”
“Byron, you are no longer a child. You must act like a proper adult now that you are already fifteen. Now, apologize to Lady Violet.”
Being scolded and ganged out by both of his parents, Byron’s unknown hate swelled up in his heart and erupted.
“No! I hate her! I don’t want to marry that ugly woman!!”
