It had been a few days since that time, that time when Venice almost killed Violet.
Three days, it seems.
Thinking about that day still brought shivers to Violet, the spine-chilling coldness when met with the God of death and almost being brought by him to the underworld is really scary.
But even so, one must go on forward as long as one is alive!
Walking through the halls to the imperial garden was Venice’s usual routine.
He was walking through the empty halls alone. Venice was used to this.
There were no guards nor an attendant by his side, it was pure loneliness.
Venice does not like having anyone around him, well, except for that annoying anomaly who seems to pop out of nowhere like a mushroom, Giles.
Except for him, he had no one loyal to him by his side.
Though Giles had always been there by his side since they were little, he still felt that the world had abandoned him.
The loneliness in his heart could not be quenched and only made him thirsty the more he grew up.
People around him since that time, no, even if not that time when he was crowned had always been averse to his existence.
Like an outsider, they alienated him.
At first, he doesn’t know why people avoid him.
A sort of naivety of a child in its early stage, it makes him laugh.
It was when he turned ten that he knew why people seemed to avoid him, it was when he overheard people talking secretly behind his back, it was in that time that he had finally understood the ugliness of this world.
“Hey, did you know? That child with dark hair again. I saw him staring at a bird when I was in the garden. Did you know what happened? The bird burst, all of its inside splatted like a desert. It was so scary that it made me run.”
“That’s scary. That child born from the concubine was said to be cursed by a Demon because his mother tried to use dark magic before, but then it rebounded. His hair and eyes, which were the color of the night were the best proof of this. Don’t you think it’s scary?”
“Scary!”
“That’s why, try to avoid that cursed child. Nothing good will happen if you get close to him. You might become that bird, dying not knowing why.”
“Hahah… Big Sis, don’t scare me like that.”
Hearing the gossip, Venice finally understood why he was avoided.
He was voided not because he was feared but because he was cursed.
Covering half of his face with his right hand, Venice laughs at himself mockingly.
“A curse. A demon child. Hahaha..”
Laughing like a lunatic, Venice continued on his journey.
‘When was the last time I had someone by my side who truly cared about me?’
“Even she betrayed me.”
Venice had already been used to being alone.
Well, he was alone from the start and that will never change.
His world had always been encased by darkness, loneliness was his friend, and the cold was his blanket to sleep.
He often wonders why he was born like this, why he had been born as a “Demon child” that no one wanted.
Even his mother wanted to kill him when he was born.
Gladly his Father was not that heartless and saved him. He even gave him the throne.
“Will someone ever love a person such as me?”
Venice whispered the words that had always been in his heart, words that never had he spoken before nor words that had ever come true.
Venice does not get it. Why is he even alive in this world?
The world cursed him, the people wanted his death, and the darkness is swallowing him, why is he even alive?
Walking sluggishly, Venice finally arrived at a hallway with two paths.
One, leading to the imperial garden.
Two, a path leading to the imperial library.
The two paths were like choices, choices that could decide his future.
One, leading to a path of loneliness and darkness.
Two, the second path, if he were to choose it, might lead to a path he had never been before.
A path of salvation. Is there even a path like that?
Looking at these two junctions, Venice did not know why, but his feet took him somewhere else.
It was like something was guiding him, it was like he was being guided to a path, a path that might take him to a place unknown.
A place he had long desired…
Venice stood in front of the doors of the library, his hand hovered above the door.
“………..”
Venice does not know why but he felt hesitant to open the door.
Like, if he were to open it, some things might change in his life.
Putting his palm against the door, Venice slowly opened the door.
He was met with a dimly lit room with only the light from the sun as its source of light.
Entering, Venice looked around.
“There is nothing here… as usual.”
Venice traced his slim fingertips on the books that lined the bookshelves as he walked.
Though the books were old, there was no dust on them.
This proves that the library is cleaned on a daily basis.
Walking around, Venice suddenly heard mumbling voices from the distance.
“A v..r..i..”
‘Who is it? Who had the guts to enter the imperial library without permission?’
Only members of the royal family were allowed to enter the imperial library. Those who break this rule are punished by having their hand chopped, or worse death.
Venice frowned and took a dagger from his coat. He was ready to punish the intruder.
But when he arrived at the spot, what he saw made his brow furrow together and frown.
A little girl with hair as white as snow was standing with her back turned against him.
She was mumbling incoherent words.
But, her next words made his eyes wide.
“But thinking about it, the Emperor is really handsome. I can’t deny that.”
