Luna Emilia

The crowd cheered when the third guy hit the floor, making Caleb the winner to my strong exhale, trying not to look so damn scared, but who was I kidding!? I was scared to death, and I couldn’t act like the Alpha and Betas enjoying this, the entire show of Caleb knocking down guys, blood coming out from noses and … everywhere…. I had no idea that so much blood would be involved in being mated to an Alpha! “Caleb, please get dressed and get back to me!” I pleaded with him when he hadn’t moved, standing like a statue, panting the slightest, having to fight again if anyone interested me. That still was insane! I was not that special. That was the first thing that that nasty Delta that dressed me had said, that I was here for one reason and that she couldn’t care less about me or my status as the new Luna in the future. Caleb didn’t answer, just staring at the crowd with his full wolf out, pure Alpha power making the air harder to breathe when so many of them were in the same room. “You are special, Luna. Look at them. They all can feel it and can’t have you. It's better to get this done now than have someone stab me in the back later; it's our custom, and you should know that!” Caleb's dark voice was loud and clear. He was tired of explaining everything my family didn’t tell me and feeling even worse because he was right. I knew nothing about customs or unwritten laws and was an exiled Delta with human nature! Another male stepped towards my mate, making me wince. The head Alpha was smirking, staring down, and having his yellow eyes out. Everything Caleb was on the outside seemed inherited from his father, who watched the new fight with amusement and then worried. Alpha Terrence knew I was staring at him, but he didn’t care when the next fighter was downed by Caleb, and this turn, he had a nasty claw mark over his back, making my heart break seeing him in pain. There was no way around it, even if he didn’t show it at all on that clenched face, not even make the slightest twitch over the long gashes dripping down on the marble floor. “Alpha Terrence, please stop this. He is exhausted; can’t you see that!?” I was begging the head Alpha now, who didn’t look at me and ignored me when the next guy came up, and this was starting to freak me out. What the hell was wrong with these people? Did they just come here to see Caleb get killed? I was just about to start running down, not caring what Caleb had told me, feeling the firm grip of the hand that made me turn from the snatch that almost made my head hurt from the strong pull around my arm, making me whine, giving Caleb a small window of distraction, staring up the balcony, hearing my agony and reacting to it, he could feel my pain just like I was feeling his. “Don’t you dare go downstairs and embarrass this pack, you stupid girl!” I was still not sure what had happened when I had believed that the head Alpha had pulled me back, only to see the older woman scolding me, having her deep brown eyes locked down to my still shocked face, Delta Vivian. I snatched my arm back, ignoring how much she had hurt me; it still was aching when I heard the roar of my mate, feeling the intense worry when he was knocked down, giving me no room to look at the severely older woman that made a slight twitch like she was worried too over the young man in the circle of people below us, so why didn’t she help him!? I was linking her the same pleading to save my mate from death and everyone else enjoying it! “I can’t.” She linked it back to me, looking even grimmer, gritting her teeth, making my head hurt even more. What in the world was that supposed to mean? We all could help him! He was right there; his father was not lifting a damn finger! “I have to help him; he is my mate!” I didn’t care what anyone said when Caleb was down. Another male, an Alpha, was sitting on his chest and looking like he had fun taking out the only person in the world who loved me. That was not happening! My eyes were gold-green when I kicked off the high heels, sprinting down to my mate, who was growling. He hadn’t seen me since the bastard on his chest had blocked his view, giving me the small window; I needed to do whatever I could, not caring about the consequences. I felt my wolf take over, like some weird dream state when my hands were shifted and slashed at the man’s back that was still trying to take out my mate over my dead body! “Don’t shift!” I was growling at the command in my head when the male on the balcony was pinning me down. He was angry at me, but I didn’t care when Caleb stared at me like I was crazy. The man howled from the pain of wounds I had made, still unsure when the blood was dripping down from my hands. I had no idea what had happened. “Luna, don’t!” Caleb was up, exhausted, his feet still bare, slipping on the blood around the floor. I whined back, wanting to reach him, when the other Alpha finally realized that it wasn’t Caleb who had gotten to him but me, the small girl with golden green eyes. The strange Alpha made a mocking snicker, causing Caleb's face to get the slightest upset. His eyes burned with sparks of yellow, leaving me in the dark. What was so funny!? “Well… guess that proves it. You are too weak to defend the pack, and your Luna is too emotional to be practical when you die….” I gasped at hearing that. Die!? Caleb would never die in a million years if I had any say in it! Caleb made a stern face, making me feel like I had done something wrong. I hadn’t! I didn’t want him to die. Why was everyone acting like I was the stupid one!? He was so angry. I knew it the second Caleb made a slight sneer when our eyes met, my heart breaking the smallest from his hostility. I was so lost right now, and he was shunning me in front of anyone who wanted to see it. “It proves nothing. Emilia, get back up there, now!” Caleb was barking it at the man and me, making me flinch for a second. He sounded just like he did the first time I saw him, cold and unforgiving, a jerk. “I… I just…. you were down and….” He made another sneer over the link, not giving me a second look when the other Alpha smirked like he could tell I was being scolded. My posture was defeated, unlike my mate, and my wolf was hurt the same as me. This was not what I had expected to happen when I rushed down here. “Get your ass up here, or I’m going to throw you out of this house and end this mateship before you even can understand what happened, dear niece.” Alpha Terrence was talking to me, and I gulped hearing that, lifting my head and seeing the middle-aged man that was pissed off. They all were, including my mate, still waiting for me to leave so he could go on and fight for his life in this stupid tradition! “It's not stupid, not to me or anyone else around here! Only you, mate, and you are embarrassing this pack and me! Now, I told you to get back up there and stay. Is that so hard to understand!?” Caleb was growling at me, making some women snicker, clearly more informed than me. I whimpered again, feeling more trapped than ever, taking the first step up the stairs again, back to the angry Alpha Terrence and annoyed Delta Vivian, who had her hands neatly clasped, standing in a black suit and her grey in a tight bun, observing me more than anyone else. Every step I took felt like I was getting heavier. I wanted to leave so much when I stepped back to the same spot, still having my feet bare, and clasped my hands hard, leaning my chin down towards my chest, but not before catching my mate's eyes, still pissed at what I had done. “Don’t cry, Luna. Lift your head up again. You did wrong, but I know you meant well…” Caleb's dark voice was inside my head. He sounded sweeter when he wasn’t scolding me right before anyone could hear him. I wiped away the first tear from my eyes, my throat snaring up from the slight sniffles from my chest, pushing up and making me shake the smallest when I wanted nothing more than to bawl my eyes out after what had happened. “I just don’t want you to die….” I was still unsure of what was going on, I had never heard of this before, and my mother loved to talk about the history of the Alphas. She must have missed this part. “I will tell you everything, and…. Emilia…. it’s your turn next….” Caleb made a sigh that was filled with horror beyond words, making me start to shake even more. I was what!? “Yes, you are next after me.” Caleb was still talking to me when his opponent attacked. He was getting tired out now, and no one could see that. I was going to do what? Fight!? I had never been in one; I avoided getting into trouble because I wasn’t a fighter! “Yes, you are. You are made for this, Emilia! What did you feel when I was pinned down on the ground!?” Caleb made another growl when someone was moving in the crowd. He was sick of having males challenging him. He was pushing out way more Alpha power than was necessary, making every Delta and Beta around the room whine and bow their heads down. I was still shaking, trying so hard not to cry; the girls looking at me mockingly wanted to kill me. Wasn’t that the end goal, killing me so that they could be his mate? “Yes.” I gasped, hearing that stern voice filled with concern no matter how he wanted to hide it. Caleb was terrified of what would happen once I walked downstairs and let my challengers come against me. “What did you feel when you slashed that Alpha back? Oh, it looked really deep, too...” Caleb made a proud snicker in my head, making me feel the slightest better; still, it changed nothing. I wasn’t a warrior, and he knew that! “I wanted him dead; he was going to kill you and….” I stopped feeling my wolf being pushed out; the thought of my mate dying on the ballroom floor with anyone watching made me want to start to shift and kill anyone close to me! “Don’t shift. I still don’t want anyone to know you are a female Alpha, not yet anyway….” I gave a slight nod; sure… don’t shift… just fight with my hands or what? I looked at him, lost when he wasn’t looking back; it was so hard being here; the higher ranks had no public affection, and it was killing me when I wanted nothing more than to have my handsome mates' reassuring eyes to help me calm down. Alpha Terrence raised his hand, instantly reducing everyone’s whispers. Looking up at the strong head that was all smiles, even if he still was mad at me, I knew the same as everyone else in this room. “My son and heir have taken down all his challengers and still stand strong! he is the Golden Moon's future head and is blessed by the moon goddess herself!” He had his arms out, painting the picture like Caleb was the son of a god. Him. I made another gulp, seeing my mate beaten up. He was bruised, and there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would be killed when I walked downstairs to meet my challengers, the room filled with eager beta girls who wanted nothing more than a chance to take my place beside Caleb. “Who wants to challenge the future Luna, the Delta Emilia Jackson, from no pack and exiled heritage?” Alpha Terrence looked just as mocking as everyone else when he said that. I wanted to start crying again. Why was he saying that to everyone? He knew that I was an Alpha, the same as Caleb!? “Don’t listen to that; you are an Alpha. Father just doesn’t want anyone to know, like me, Emilia; if you think this was hard, you would have cried if anyone knew what price you really are for anyone here…” Caleb sounded cautious when I didn’t care. So, what if I was a Delta!? I was proud of that, and if people didn’t like that around here, including my mate, they could all go to hell! I was walking down, my feet bare when I stepped into the blood of my mate and many others, my dress being stiff, and Caleb was staring at me when he walked past me, nudging my shoulder, making me close my eyes and exhale feeling the energy between us, he was my everything. “Fight well, Luna, and win for us.” He wasn’t even looking at me when I whined back. Yeah, that was going to be hard…
