Chapter Five

844 Words
Before stepping outside, I check the mirror on last time. Even though I couldn't contain much of the frizz, my hair would put any surfer or eighties prom queen to shame. It looked kinda cute. My blue eyes highlighted by a shimmery smoky eye. Not to mention the eyeliner I pretty much had never worn. And my lashes are darker than normal from my favorite mascara. I also contured my round face to highlight my high cheekbones and put on a glittery clear plumping lip gloss. If I was one of 'those' girls, I'd get up and do my makeup like this everyday. I had picked a black sheer shirt that had sleeves down to the elbows and a faux sliver zipper that came down between my breasts. Of course I had a cami underneath but you could clearly still see major cleavage. I had found a pair of light blue American Eagle shorts to go with my black shirt. I grabbed the first pair of sandals I could find and put them on as quick as possible. And to complete the look I put on a pair of medium sized half hoop earrings that were studded on the front and on the inside of the back. The were my favorite pair of earrings and I'm not even sure where I had gotten them. Over all, it looked good. For the first time, in a long time, I was pleased with my reflection. Tonight is going to be a good night. *Yes it is!* Pearl howled in agreement.*We look hot!* I step out the house just as Amber pulls up. *Perfect timing.* Pearl compliments me. "Damn!" She exclaims. "Hold your men tight ladies! Tonight Paige Tate is gonna steal your man!" "Amber, stop," I say blushing at her complients. "You look good too." She did, She always did. Her slender body was poured into a pair of shorts, white tank top and a colorful cotton shawl that had small tassels that lined the sleeves. Her tawny brown hair was straightend to the max and shined like glass in the light of the afternoon sun. Her makeup like it was straight out of Vogue magazine. And again around her neck was the rose pendant I gave her when we were kids. "No, I'm serious." She says. "I love it." I take a cigarette out my pack and proceed to light it. Anxiety getting the better of me, I start having second thoughts about tonight. Idon't normally do too well with crowds. Even though we are a pack, I still feel like I'm singled out. And it's not like I'm really alone in a crowd full of people. But Amber has Dylan and is mostly preoccupied all night, and I feel like a third wheel. Not that a couple of guys haven't tried to change that. Being unmated bring unmated males around thinking that maybe they could get lucky. One of whom, I don't think I can deal with tonight. Scott. Scott was chosen to be Alpha Doms beta, so of course he'll try throwing that around to get into someone's pants. Not that he really has too. He is pretty good looking so many of the girls in the pack hope and pray to the moon goddess she'll reveal he is their mate. With his green eyes and tan skin on top of a models body, he was a looker. But is curly tan hair covered head had pretty much been in the bed of every unmated females bed in the entire pack. Guys got game. But unfortunately for me Amber has helped me swurve every pass he has ever made towards me. "Come on, Dylan is going to meet us there." She tells me. Putting me cigarette out, I swollow my anxiety and fear. I walk down the steps, across the yard to her car. I take a deep breathe in and slow breathe out before opening the passenger door and getting into the car. She gets in looking at me as she does so. I can tell she is picking up my nervousness. Turning the key to the engine she continues to look at me. "You're okay." By the tone in her voice I can tell that's a statement not a question. I don't respond. I know she is right, but I still can't shake this feeling of anxiety. Dang I hate this s**t. *Told you to start self-medicating again.* Pearl says. *I know but I don't like how certain pack members act about it.* I tell her. I know for a fact she already knew that. We have this conversation atleast once a week. *Why does it matter what they think?* She asks. *It don't! You are you and if they don't like it well they can go-* *PEARL!* I stop her. *Well I'm just saying* She replies. "Paige, it's a party try to have fun." She says. "Okay?" "No promises." I tell her as I force a smile. "What could happen?" She asks as we pull up at the pack house.
