A Friend For Life

Kelly The next day, Kelly woke up with a start. A cold flush ran down her chest, past her abdomen and into her legs. Sweat lined her temples and she felt like she was choking, unable to breathe. Where am I? Although her eyes were wide open, pitch black darkness surrounded her. She tried to scream but no sound escaped her mouth. She tried to kick but couldn’t move a single muscle. Her legs were stuck in place as if they were nailed to the bed below. In desperation, she tried to move her hands, but even with all her will and effort, she couldn’t wiggle a single finger. What is happening to me? A cold, bone-chilling dread enveloped her. She opened her eyes. Her gaze rested on the gypsum plasterboard ceiling. Her heart pumped wildly with different scenarios crossing her head, each more improbable than the previous. She gasped violently, trying to breathe. It was a fuckin dream. Thank god for small mercies! Kelly started to relax as she could feel her hands and feet. As she slowly tilted her head, she could see the form of a giant man, sleeping soundly next to her. Shirtless, heavily tattooed. His back was facing her, his muscles ripped and his shoulders moved lightly as he breathed softly in his sleep. Her head throbbed fiercely. Who is this? Where am I? What the hell have I gotten myself into? Kelly willed herself to recall as she massaged her temples with her fingers. Memories from the evening at Brady’s fleeting back one by one. Just like a thousand pieces of a jigsaw puzzle clicking in place. Barbara, Andy, highballs, Adam waving….David….Scottish accent…the WMU rugby captain. She recollected getting inside a big pickup and a charming David opening the door for her. She slowly removed the sheets off her and sat up, feet dangling from the side of the bed. She tried to reminisce further but nothing came up. She willed herself to think, but the same images kept coming back again and again. What happened after I got into his car? How did I get here? There were no answers. Her mind refused to move ahead. She looked at the key tag sitting on the bedside table. A motel! Good god! What have I done? Did we have s*x? Kelly looked at David’s bare tattooed back as his muscles gently rose and fell from his relaxed breathing. Kelly felt a ripple of shame and disgust just thinking about the certitude. She reached down between her legs to feel herself. Where the f**k are my thongs? Kelly felt her v****a. Dry. No abrasions. No pain. Although she wanted to believe nothing had happened, she couldn’t be certain. Who knows? No thong. I could have had s*x and then slept! She wasn’t going to wait to find out. She instantly felt embarrassed and sorry. She had not anticipated a casual encounter at the bar, and a little flirtation would go this far. Although she had dressed to impress and talked herself into thinking that she would go for a quick one- night stand, now when she thought about it, she just wasn't ready. Why did I do this to David? Why did I do this to myself? Dammit! I do NOT have any time for any casual affair. I don’t even want a fuckin relationship! Kelly’s obsession with becoming a helicopter pilot returned. That strong yet desolate feeling of resolve swept over her. That’s all I want. There is no place for flings. She picked up her stilettos and tiptoed around the room, looking for her thongs. Goddamn it! Where the f**k did I put them? She looked under the bed, she looked in the bathroom, she even pulled the sheets as much as she could without alerting David. Dang! Screw it. I will need to head back without it. Kelly did not want David to wake up and make a scene. She did not want to confront him. This ends here. Sorry, David. I just hope we can forget about tonight and move on. She felt a tinge of guilt, but her resolve replaced it quickly. Kelly picked up her things and eased out of the motel, careful not to make any sound as she crept away. She was relieved to see a yellow taxi idling in front of the motel. Take me away from this place quickly. She tapped on the window, opened the door and hopped in, relieved at the easy escape. *** Kelly woke up late on Saturday. Her bedside clock showed 1300 hrs when she finally got up. Her cell phone buzzed. It was Barbara. She picked up the phone, yawning sleepily, stretching like a cat in bed. “What’s the meaning of that message at 2 AM? Were you back home already? What happened? You guys had a quickie and left? Barbara shot off. Kelly smiled at her friend’s impatience. Angela could ask a thousand questions together, all in one single breath. “Calm down babes. Nothing happened!” Kelly silently prayed that she was right, “We went to grab a bite, ended up in a motel and fell asleep! ” “Fell asleep, my ass! You hookup with that charming, bang tidy hunk and you guys didn’t even 'F'? Get the f*ck outta my face, b*tch! You were in heat last night!” Barbara wasn’t buying it. She was certain they had s*x and kept teasing her. Maybe she is right… Kelly wasn’t sure and neither did she care. “Chill the f*ck out, Barbs!” Kelly retorted sternly. “I was pissed drunk last night when I went out with David. I wasn’t planning a home run in some sleazy motel. I fell asleep before I knew it and left when I came around.” “What about you? Lana! You and Andy must have copulated on the friggin’ dance floor at Brady’s!” Barbara calmed down a little with Kelly’s riposte. She knew when it was time to stop teasing her friend. “You bet! I got derailed last night. Brandon boy beat me to sleep. I am in a fuckin wheelchair today!” Kelly guffawed at Barbara’s graphic description of their wild night. She was an encyclopedia of trashy language. Kelly was happy the bottle had pointed away from her. “You nurse your poor coochie back to good health. I've got to sleep this one off. Catch you Monday morning at Kelloggs'.” They blew kisses at each other before Kelly hung up. They had an early start on Monday morning with their flight instructor at the Kelloggs Executive Airport, 3 miles from Battlecreek. She wasn’t going to plan anything for the weekend, she just wanted to remain in bed. A bit of laundry, Chinese takeaway and a little bit of reading work for the assignments. Kelly flipped over in bed, exposing her nakedness from within the sheets. She stroked her own bare breasts letting the warmth from her n*****s envelope her as she drifted back to sleep. *** Monday morning, at the crack of dawn, the undergrad students of Flight Sciences milled into the Kelloggs Executive airport heading towards the tarmac. This was the most exciting part of their studies; flying! Kelly felt someone’s strong arm on hers. She spun around and faced a sheepish- looking David in his flight suit. “I am terribly sorry abait last night. I had wee too much to drink.” Kelly couldn’t believe her luck. She was the one who should have been sorry. What’s he sayin? “I woke up in the morning and faind yay ‘ere gon. I shudda dropped ye back ‘ome.” David spoke apologetically. Is he always this charming and naive? Kelly felt sorry that she had led David into this. Kelly just wanted to know what had happened between them that night. The impatience was evident in her voice as she blurted out. “Did anything happen between us last night?” David looked at her incredulously and reacted, “Sorry Kelly, I think I was fast asleep before you came outta the bathroom. I am so sorry!” Kelly felt so relieved that she reached out and hugged David tight. “Can we just be friends! Please, please! You are the sweetest and most charming man I have ever met, David, but I can’t get into a relationship just yet!” Kelly exclaimed. She desperately wanted David to say yes. She really liked him. Although she had almost gone over the top last night, she did not want to lose the company of this lovely man. “Won’t ‘ave it nai other way,” Kelly was elated and found herself smiling ear to ear. She rested her head on David’s strong chest and relaxed as he hugged her back. ***
