It was near lunch time when my cell phone rung and I quickly answered it when I saw Dexter name light up the caller ID.
“Hey Gorgeous, are you doing, okay?” Thomas said and I smile.
“I’m okay, Thomas. How are you guys?” I asked and he chuckled.
“That’s amazing, gorgeous, you can already tell our voices apart.” He said and I laughed.
“Yes, from the first time you spoke to me. I see you both as separate beings and you both talk to me in your own way. You call me gorgeous, and he calls me beautiful. You call me love and he calls me Princess. There are other differences but that isn’t why you called.” I said and he chuckled again.
“No, I called to tell you we are still at the meeting with the CIA. Thomas wanted to see if you could tell us apart verbally and as I told him you’re very observant and amazing. We should be back a little after lunch so you ladies shouldn’t wait for us. We will be back in time for dinner.” Dexter said and I smiled.
“Okay, I’ll let the others know. Thank you both for calling me and letting me know that you will be later than anticipated. Be careful. I’ll see you two later.” I said and Dexter laughed.
“Okay Beautiful, we’ll see you later.” He said before ending the call.
“Was that Dexter?” Lydia asked with a smile, and I nodded.
“Yes, and Thomas, they wanted to let me know that they are still meeting with the CIA and will be back a little after lunch. Dexter said we shouldn’t wait for them they will be back by dinner.” I said and mom nodded.
“Well, I’ll call your father and just make sure everything is okay and we can just have lunch here in the courtyard if they are not going to make it back.” Mom said and we all smiled.
“I should go feed the twins and put them down for their afternoon nap. Moni and Casey will surely need a break soon.” Amir said and mom smiled.
“Amir, bring the boys back with you please. They can have lunch with us out here. They can even run around a little while before so they can be ready for their naps after lunch.” Mom said and Amir nodded with a smile then stood to her feet and walked towards the Palace entrance.
“Here’s your father calling now.” Mom said with a smile when we heard her cell phone ring.
“Hey Love, how’s things going? Are you guys on your way back to the Palace? Oh okay. Yes, that should be fine. I don’t know. Yes, I’ll let the kitchen know. Okay, you guys be safe. We’ll see you all soon.” She said with a smile then ended the call.
“Are they going to be after lunch?” Lydia asked and mom smiled with a nod.
“Yes, dad said the investigator showed up a little later and they are now getting ready to talk with the defense attorney. They should be on their way in an hour but won’t get here until after 5:00 pm so he wants the kitchen to prepare dinner at 6:30 pm.” Mom said to Lydia, and she smiled.
“Mom, do you think things are going to go in Dexter’s favor? I’m a little worried about all of this.” I said looking at my mom with a hopeful glare.
“I think everything is going to be just fine. What Daniel has done is unacceptable in any country. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is given a life in federal prison or even the death penalty. Your father is representing Dexter and there is only one other attorney in this world that is as good as your father and that is your uncle Brian. Your brothers are pretty sharp also. Dexter has the best legal defense team on his side. I’m sure he’s going to be just fine.” Mom said with a smile, and I smiled back with more hope than before.
“Besides sis, Dexter is the one that was wronged here. No matter what Daniel’s reasoning was or is now, he deceived Damien, and he deceived Dexter. His deception won’t go unnoticed, I’m sure.” Imani said and I smiled.
“Glamma, can we play in the garden?” Little Jameson asked as soon as he and Caelan walked up, and mom nodded.
“Sure, baby but don’t pull the roses, okay?” Mom said with a smile at her grandsons.
“Just seven roses Grandma, please?” Caelan asked with his charming smile.
“Seven? Why?” Mom asked him with a small chuckle even though she knew the answer because they have this conversation every time the boys ask to play in the garden.
“You know why grandma, please?” Caelan says with a bigger smile showing all his teeth.
“Okay, but only seven and be careful of the thorns.” Mom said with a smile and the boys ran into the garden as Amir took her seat back at the table.
After a few minutes, a fresh pot of tea was brought out to us, and mom told Maria of the change of lunch and dinner plans.
“Thanks Maria, the King and Princes will not be back in time for lunch, please prepare them a light snack and place it in my husband’s wet lounge in his office. The ladies and I with the boys will be having our lunch here in the courtyard. Salads and fruit will be just fine for me and my girls. Please bring the boys sandwiches with carrots and apples. Don’t forget their juice boxes. The King is requesting steak and red potatoes for dinner. Also, please have dinner ready by 6:30 it will be earlier this evening.” Mom said to the new kitchen lead Maria.
“Yes, my queen, that will all be taken care of. Spinach for dinner’s vegetable?” Maria asked and mom smiled.
“No, let’s go with Asparagus.” Mom said and Maria smiled with a nod and walked away.
“Why does dad want dinner to be early tonight?” Imani asked and mom looked at each of us before responding.
“He only told me that we need to have a family discussion afterwards and that the boys want some time with their mates.” Mom said and we all smiled.
As lunch time arrived, Maria brought out the lunch mom requested, and we all ate and had small talk about various random things. I could tell that they were all tip toeing around the fact that Dexter now has his wolf, and he will probably go into hibernation soon. I knew nobody would bring it up, so I did.
“I’m okay. I know I may not have much time with Dexter before he goes into hibernation and I’m okay.” I said and all of their eyes looked at me.
“It is something that none of us has ever had to experience and to be honest we will only experience it through you. I am concerned but I know you are strong, and you can get through anything with your family here beside you.” Mom said and as I looked around the table my sisters were all nodding with smiles on their faces.
“I love you guys. Thank you.” I said and they all smiled.
“We love you too pumpkin and no matter what, you are never alone in this.” Amir said and I smiled and nodded at her.
When we were done with lunch, Imani and Lydia took the boys inside to put them down for their naps and Hope went inside with Amir to help her with the twins. It was just mom and me. It had been sometime since it was just the two of us alone and if I could be honest, I needed my mom more than ever now.
“Angel, your father and I have heard the rumors and we have done a little research on the situations you are facing. I’ve even consulted Selene regarding our concerns and baby I know the next year and a half is going to be hard for you but as your sisters and I have just said you are never alone.” Mom said looking at me with a sincere look.
“I know mom but if I could be honest, I don’t just look like you. I am truly a carbon copy and if you were ever facing something like this, I am sure you would get through it effortlessly. I believe your strength is what will get me through this. Dexter and Thomas are both trying to make sure that before that time they pour as much of themselves in me as humanly and supernaturally possible. I can sense they are concerned for me also, but I know I will be fine.” I said and mom smiled and nodded at me.
“Okay, well let’s talk about Adaline and the possibility that you will not be able to give the Valarian Kingdom an heir then.” Mom said and my eyes went wide.
“I don’t care about Adaline. Thomas and Dexter have both assured me that she is delusional and neither of them will ever leave me for her. The heir thing does weigh on me heavy. What if I can’t save his kind? What if I am incapable of giving him a family? What if I’m not good enough to be their Queen?” I asked my mom and her eyes softened at me and tears begin to fill my eyes.
“You will just like I did. You are capable of giving my son a trihybrid heir and you are beyond good enough to be the Valarian Kingdom’s queen.” I heard a voice say and within a few seconds a flash of light appeared with Madaline walking out of it.
“Madaline King, what a surprise?” Mom said looking at her.
“I’m sorry to intrude Queen Crystal. I, too, heard our people talking about the kingdom’s heir and Angel being incapable yesterday. I was forbidding to address it with the crowd, but the Gods and our mother Selene has given me permission to speak with the two of you. Angel, it is not by accident that you are a powerful Alpha wolf mated to a trihybrid human, dragon, wolf being. I specifically prayed that the Gods and our mother Selene would forgive Damien and me and bless our son with someone as remarkable and amazing as you. When Dexter was conceived, we had no idea what species he would become. I had no idea my son would turn from a human newborn to a dragon within minutes of his arrival in this world. Damien on the other hand was beyond positive that our first born would save his kingdom. As the pregnancy progressed the signs all pointed towards Damien being correct. Three months into my pregnancy, I blew fire from my mouth and it shocked both Damien and me but that was the first sign I was pregnant with a dragon. Throughout my pregnancy, I would have severe hot flashes that could only be soothe by the touch of my husband and as soon as Damien would touch my belly Dexter would calm down and my body temperature would return to normal. At our final checkup a week before Dexter’s birth, the doctor attempted to do an ultrasound, but the cold gel angered Dexter and he shocked the machine, so we were not able to tell if he was a boy or girl.
We hid Dexter because we thought if the Gods or Elders found out about his existence, they would kill him out of fear of the unknown. That is how my son ended up in the dangerous hands of King Daniel. Damien and I were not told until after our accident that Dexter was in fact with a blood relative. Our punishment for betraying the Gods and Elders was watching our son grow up without us. When he turned five years old, I begin to petition the Gods and Moon Goddess to spare him the agony of growing up without a family and not being able to have one of his own. It was at that time; we were told of the prophecy he would fulfill and the mate that would be given to him as long as he stayed the course. I never had a doubt he wouldn’t stay the course and I heard his prayer for you the same day he first met you. He always had his eyes on you. In his heart, you were always his.” Madaline said and mom and I sat there listening to her.
“What was his prayer?” I asked and Madaline smiled.
“His prayer was, ‘God, I know she is mine but let me love her forever.’ He prayed with confidence and sincerity. The Moon Goddess heard his prayer and she chuckled and when I asked her why she laughed. She simply said, ‘He is his father’s child. Damien prayed the same prayer the moment he laid eyes on you.’ She said to me. I asked her if you were Dexter’s mate and she smiled and nodded then said, ‘Since before my existence and as long as you both stayed the course, you will be his and he would be yours.” Madaline said, looking at me sincerely with a smile.
“Angel, you get to ask me one single simple question and I am allowed to answer it honestly with a simple yes or no. What is on your mind, my darling? What is the one answer that would give you peace today regarding your forever future?” Madaline asked, and there was only one question on my mind.
“Will I save the Valarian Kingdom?” I asked and my heart began to race as I waited for her response.
“Well son, will she?” Madaline said and I turned around and became face to face with my handsome mate.
“She is the only one who can mom.” Dexter said with a bright smile and he quickly wrapped his arms around me and pulled me in to the tightest hug he has ever given me.
“The answer is yes, Angel. Goodbye my loves. And thank you again, Queen Crystal and King Caelan for accepting my son as your own.” Madaline said and disappeared in the same flash of light that she had appeared.
