Chapter 15

Skyla (Past) When they heard my scream, my foster mother stopped her hand from hitting Mason's chest with that sharp glass piece. I looked at Mason's chest, she ripped his heart already. I screamed again in horror. Then they all looked at me simultaneously. My foster mother stood up. I saw the lifeless body of Mason's also stood up. The three were looking at me without blinking. I was shaking in fear. I felt dizzy, but I couldn't lose my consciousness in presence of them. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wanted to run out of that place. I needed to leave before they could kill me and take me with them. I tried to stand up, but I felt my legs getting heavier. I gulped hard, seeing them coming toward me with slow steps. I saw blood everywhere around them. How could they bear the pain and stood unfazed?  Are they really human? I needed to run and go to my granny. I knew she would help me. How come there has no one in the school? Where are the guards?  But I couldn't wait any longer. With determination, I stood up and tried to move toward the door, not breaking eye contact with them. I looked at my foster mother, who was still holding that bloodied sharp glass. Their eyes looked pitched black, where my foster mothers' had none. Blood was running out from her eye socket. Their skin was turning from green to pitch black. My heart dropped in fear. I realized they weren't human anymore as they looked like- they are dead. It's been months since I saw my foster family. I tried to remember that day I ran away from their home. As I looked at their muddied clothes, I remembered those clothes they wore that very same day. Oh, God! When the realization hit me, I knew I was hallucinating. No, it's not happening. Or, it is happening in real! They are here, and they killed that monster who whip me and tried to r**e me. I didn't want to stay there for once. I shifted my gaze toward the door. From the corner of my eyes, I saw they were watching me with scary black lifeless eyes. As I about to run out of that room, the door got closed with an unknown force with a loud bang. I screamed out in fear. I burst into tears knowing very well I couldn't save myself anymore. I don't want to die. I started to bang the door with my fists and scream for help, but no one came to my rescue. Why me? I was facing the door, not gathering the courage to look back at that, knowing very well that they were standing right behind me. I felt cold suddenly, and I started shivering uncomfortably. I thought that they were going to kill me. I could feel they were breathing behind me.    I was sweating and crying continuously. With a shaky breath, I looked behind my back. I slowly looked up only to see they were looking at me with a creepy grin on their faces. I screamed out and moved away from them. Unfortunately for me, the three of them cornered me. I couldn't move away from them. I remembered how my foster father cornered Mason and broke his beer bottle over his head and how brutally he killed him by hitting him several times over his head. I looked at Mason and saw his eyes were lifeless and his whole face was bloodied. Blood was still running down from his face to the floor. I became breathless. I formed my both palm in fists to stay myself steady. My eyes fell on his chest and saw his heart was hanging from there.  I closed my eyes, thinking if I opened my eyes, they would be gone. It's not possible. I am defiantly dreaming. It is one of my terrible nightmares. The pain I am feeling isn't real. Nobody whipped me. No one died in front of me. My foster parents and Mason aren't in front of me. My granny is going to shake me and try to wake me up, soon. She can't see me like this. No. This is not happening in real. I am imagining things. Granny, please come soon, or I would die in my dream. Please help me, granny.  I slowly opened my eyes and looked straight, only to see there has no one in front of me, but I was still in that classroom. I sighed in relief. As I about to move, my legs bumped into something. Before I could trip, I held the handle of the door. I looked down, and I gave out a blood-cruddling scream. Those three were on their feet and looking at me in a painful expression. Their faces were white as paper, but skins were as black as coal. I looked at the floor which was all filled with blood, but there was something I saw floating through the blood. I looked carefully, I saw snakes. Cobra! They all surrounded those three.  My face turned pale just like them. I couldn't speak. I felt something cold around my feet. I looked down and saw a very fat and log cobra wrapped itself around my feet. I couldn't even scream. I lost my voice seeing the horrific scene in front of me. I heard the three said out something one after another.  My foster mother said while crying, "Please forgive us, Skyla. We have been together for years, dear." She added, "Let us free." I saw a cobra wrapped himself around her neck, and made her numb. Her body fell on the floor, lifeless. That cobra attacked her eyes which made me flinched. I screamed out and closed my eyes.  My foster father said, "We are sorry to hurt you this way. I am ashamed to try to molest you." He added later, "Only you can let our soul free." His eyes downcasted. I didn't open my eyes to see what happened, but I heard a scream came out through his mouth. He is dead. Mason said, "I got what I deserve. Please Skyla, forgive me for once." Before I could say anything, I heard a voice thundered inside the room, saying, "You don't deserve forgiveness. You hurt someone who belongs to me. You are going to get punished." Then I heard a horrified scream. I knew what happened. I felt the cobra wrapped around my feet, suddenly left me. I still didn't open my eyes. A few moments later, I felt someone's breath fanning over my face.
