Desperate Kiss
Suppressing a yawn I carefully read through the email dad sent me last night. Usually, I was on top of these things but last night I had been preoccupied with the game I managed to get my hands on despite Tinkerbell's efforts to steal it from me. Knock-off Tinkerbell still made my blood boil thinking about her rude behavior. “We’re here, Mister Merigold.” The driver announced as he carefully came to a stop near the coffee shop Joy worked at. Pocketing my phone I moved to climb out of the car, “I’ll be right back.” I announced and quickly hopped out of the car and headed into the crowded coffee shop. It was the morning rush and flickering my eyes to the counter I could tell Joy was having a hard time even though she was a pro at serving coffee after all these months. She spotted me, maybe she felt me looking at her and greeted me with a small smile. She motioned for me to come closer. Now I’d be the rude one, but I was kind of in a rush so I was glad Joy prepared me my usual because she knew I’d be coming over after gaming all night. I needed the caffeine to get me through the day. Moving past the line I reached for the cup she held out to me and left the money and a tip on the counter. A mocking smile spread across her tired looking face. “You and Owen are the worst.” I grinned at her knowing she was referring to us gaming all night knowing we had to get up early for work. She wasn’t wrong, we were the worst. Behaving like teenagers when we were adults with jobs where people relied on us. Joy rolled her eyes at me in mock annoyance, spotting the wide grin which I couldn’t get rid off, “Just go and get to work.” She said, brushing me off with a wave of her hand. I was about to walk away when someone caught my attention from the corner of my eye. Stopping in my tracks I narrowed my eyes on the woman with the pixie face and the pastel pink colored hair. My behavior must have been odd because Joy followed my gaze with curious eyes, frowning as she realized who I was looking at. “You know her?” Joy asked. I turned to the curious looking Joy, “Do you know her?” I asked, not being able to hide the accusation from my voice. Joy’s eyebrows raised to her hairline, “What did she do to you?” Joy asked quietly, working her orders like I wasn’t even there yet I could feel her eyes flicker to me occasionally. The line was getting shorter which meant that Tinkerbell was coming closer and closer. I wasn’t in the mood to share another weird conversation with the woman and get stared at like I was some snack. Some loved the boost to their ego but I didn’t like the attention that much. "She's an unpleasant woman and I rather not associate myself with her." I let Joy know who couldn't suppress her giggle. She shook her head at me but I ignored it, "I'm leaving, thank you for the coffee.” Her eyes softened as she looked at me, “It was nice seeing you again, Nick.” It hurt hearing the longing in her voice. Breaking up with someone even though you both agreed to it always left scars. The memories you shared with that person remained, sometimes buried deep but they were still there. I couldn’t get the moments out of my head which Joy filled me with happiness and made me laugh until I cried. Eventually, it would hurt less being around each other, I hoped. “You too.” Walking away from Joy, I sighed when Tinkerbell did spot me. The unpleasant woman didn’t hold her tongue. “Fancy boy.” She said in mock greeting. I didn’t even try to hide my annoyance as I looked at her, “Tinkerbell.” I walked past her too, not even wanting to share the same air as her. Opening the door I heard her laugh. I had to admit the quiet, breathy laugh did sound cute. It might be the most pleasant thing about that woman. Shrugging it off I left the coffee shop and climbed into the backseat of the car, letting the driver know he could now head to the office. Armed with my coffee I could tackle this day. *** By the time I was done with work it was nearing nine in the evening. There was so much catching up to do. Mom and dad wanted to have a family dinner again but Nina wasn’t feeling too well today. I hated to admit it but I was kind of relieved I didn’t have to do the social thing tonight. All I wanted was to go home, eat dinner and get some gaming done. I promised myself I'd go to bed at a reasonable time tonight. Arriving at the apartment I froze as I met Joy’s nervous gaze. She had her arms wrapped around herself, her gaze lowered as she turned to me. She hadn’t paid me a visit at my apartment since the day we broke up. It worried me. I approached her carefully, “Are you okay?” She didn’t want to meet my gaze, I worried she’d run if I came closer to her. I stood before her, not touching her just watching her carefully. “I’m going to unlock the door then we’ll talk inside, okay?” She nodded, looking more alive already. Unlocking the door I pushed it open, motioning to her to head in first. Knowing her way around the apartment Joy headed inside and turned on the lights. I followed, closing the door behind me, shrugging off my jacket to get more comfortable. “You want something to drink?” I asked as I walked into the kitchen. The living room and kitchen were in the same room, open-spaced which made it feel bigger. Joy settled on the grey colored couch, glancing over her shoulder to meet my gaze. I stood by kitchen island, washing my hands as I awaited her response. “Tea would be good.” “Okay, you can turn on the TV.” Hopefully, the background noise would make this situation feel less awkward. Putting some water in the kettle, I pushed the button to let it boil and then joined Joy on the couch. She settled on some random show, turned the volume down a little. She wasn’t talking which made me feel like a jerk for wanting to push her. I couldn’t help her if she didn’t tell me what was wrong though. I had to push her a little. "Does it have to do with my visit to the coffee shop?" I asked her, "If so, then I apologize. I know this is still fresh and I should be more considerate of your feelings. I won't come over anymore, give you some time-" She grabbed my arm all of the sudden, her eyes finally meeting mine. The girl who had been shy and anxious the entire time looked quite determined now. It caught me completely off guard. I froze completely when she pushed herself on me and pressed her lips to mine There was nothing gentle about that kiss. It was desperate as she clung to me with her nails digging into my arms. I cupped her face gently, trying to pull away. The whining noise she made stopped me. I had no idea what had gotten into her but I let her take charge. Joy straddled my lap and wrapped her arms around my neck. Placing my hands on her hips I gently held onto her while letting her kiss me. She needed this and her wriggling on top of me was messing with my mind and body. I wanted her too.
