Samika's POV
I laugh when Nyle completely and accurately impersonates how rich people can be, in general. Maybe it is funny to me because I think I can relate to a few.
"Why go to a gym when you can walk from one corner of your home to another, getting enough cardio workout for the entire day?" He asks again and I actually relate it because of the huge ass mansion I live in.
The waiter meanwhile, comes to us with the check and I pay him with my dad's credit card. I used to think that this was a magic card, when I was young. That genie gave my dad this so he can get all his wishes fulfilled with simply one card.
Once we are done, we walk out with content smiles on our faces.
"What are you doing next?" He asks me and I give a quick glance at my watch. It's already 10 pm.
"I usually call it a day and sleep" I say with a shrug and he nods without a word.
"What are you doing next?" I ask him and he just shrugs.
"I don't think you are going to like that idea" he whispers, as we both stop at the parking lot. His truck and my car are parked side by side and we are standing in the middle of those both.
"You need to tell me first to see if I like the idea or not" I smile at him and he looks into my eyes.
"Leave your car at your place. I'll take you somewhere in my truck, if you are okay with that" he says.
I should be saying no. I shouldn't be trusting someone to take me somewhere at almost midnight in his truck. But, I don't know what happens to me when I am around him.
So I just say yes and when I sit in my car, that is when I start cursing myself. Why did I have to do it? I silently drive to my home with Nyle behind me. I park my Mercedes in the garage along with the other twelve cars my family owns. At this point, every fact about my lifestyle will remind me of Nyle's jokes on rich life.
I walk out again and Nyle is already waiting for me outside the gate. I contemplate as I walk slowly to his truck. I slide in and he smiles at me. I smile back and he starts driving.
He gives me the privilege to choose the radio station and I choose the one that's playing Taylor Swift songs currently. I softly hum to it but Nyle doesn't.
"You don't like Taylor Swift's songs? Shall I switch to a different channel?" I ask him.
"Doesn't matter. I don't know any of them" he says and I don't ask anything again, for some reason. Who doesn't know music or songs, in general?
Now that he said he doesn't know, I am free to listen to whatever I wish. He drives silently and I let it be that way. I look out through the window as it starts getting darker and darker.
I don't know where we are going, until suddenly it all seems a little familiar. This was the same route I took last night when I planned on running away.
I gulp in fear once as he takes the same turn I took. Is it real then? The wolf. The eyes. Is it true?
"Why are we here?" I ask him as he stops the car at the same spot where I stopped.
I wait for the wolf to land on the truck like it did on my car, but that doesn't happen. Meanwhile Nyle looks at me like I am some sort of fool.
"You don't have to worry. I am not going to kill you or eat you. I found this place a couple days ago and I'll show you something cool. Trust me" he says and gets down.
He walks towards the other side of the car and opens the door for me. I am still a little afraid but he extends his hand and asks me to trust him this once. And I just got down.
He held my hand and made us walk for a good ten minutes into the woods. It's even darker here.
"What's happening?" I ask him but he just stands behind me. His body pressing against mine.
He takes both my hands in his and whispers in my ear, "you ready to see something cool?"
I just nod because the fear is still there and my voice took a nap for the time being. Nyle then held my hands tight and made me clap for four times.
Just like that, I see hundreds of fireflies waking up. They are glowing as they fly around. Few landed on me, on my arms, on my shoulders.
I look around and the place is glowing now. The trees. The open space. Stars above and fireflies around me. This feels wonderful.
I turn around to see Nyle and he smiles, noticing the smile on my face. I just hug him instead of saying Thank You but since he wasn't expecting it, we both stumble and fall down. Me over Nyle but we still laugh it off.
We then lay on our backs and stare at the combination of stars and fireflies. I was disappointed by my parents. But I had a nice dinner and I am here, in the woods watching something I never did.
This feels good. Nyle made the bad day still worth it.
