-Maeve POV- Before I can even knock on the door, it is being ripped open. “Maeve, what is going on?” My Uncle Apollo’s voice causes me to snap out of my trance. “Let me in, and I will tell you.” My voice is just above a whisper. My Uncle moves to the side, letting me pass, as I make my way over to the living room. I plop down on the couch before burying my face in my hands. “Maeve, you are scaring me. What is going on?” I lift my head up to see that my Uncle has crouched down in front of me. I barely hold back a sob as I rip off my hoodie, leaving me in my sports bra. I stare into my Uncle’s eyes as he takes in the handprint around my neck before his gaze falls onto the one on my stomach. When his eyes find mine again, they are filled with rage. “Who did this?” He demands with rage coating his tone. I open my mouth to tell him, but the dam breaks. I let out an ugly sob before I collapsed into myself. Tears coat my cheeks as all of the pain finally leaks out of me. I soon feel arms wrap around me before I am hugged into my Uncle’s chest. “What is going on here? Meave..” My Uncle Dominic’s voice cuts through my sobs. I feel the couch dip beside me before his arms come around me. I want to fully break down, but I cannot. I need to be strong. Breaking down could lead to them telling everyone. I will myself to push back my emotions before I finally break out of their hold. “You need to tell me who did that.” I meet my Uncle Apollo’s eyes. “If I did, you would have to somehow be able to travel into one of my dreams.” “What?” “What the hell is going on?” Uncle Apollo and Uncle Dominic spoke at the same time. I sighed heavily as I tried to brush off all of these feelings threatening to come up. “Look, in my dream, this being was able to touch me. I don’t know how, and I have no idea who this creature is because their face was blurred. But it felt real. I smelt my flesh burn under their hand while my whole body filled with pain. They enjoyed my reaction to their touch. I could hear it in their voice. Whoever is after me is able to morph my dreams as well as touch me.” “How was he able to touch you?” Uncle Dominic whispered the question with horror in his voice. I could tell that he didn’t want to know. He may not know what is happening right now, but he can tell that I am freaked out. “He had me chained to a bed. He could have done anything..” I left the end of the sentence in the air as I closed my eyes. “I am so tired, Uncle Apollo,” I whisper my secret out. “Maybe we need to think about telling..” “NO!” I just about shout at him while snapping my eyes open. “No. You cannot break your promise to me. We cannot tell anyone. Keep your promise.” I beg him. I can see the battle behind my Uncle’s eyes as he stares at me. He doesn’t say anything for a minute. Leaving tension in the air as I wait for his answer. “Fine. I promise, but I need to tell Dominic about this along with Ace.” I open my mouth to protest, but his hand coming up stops me. “Ace knows about all creatures, and I will be able to bounce ideas off of him, got it?” “Yeah, I got it.” “Alright, someone needs to tell me what the f**k is going on. AND. Now.” I laugh at Uncle Dominic’s tone. I also use that as my escape. Quickly getting up while making a dash for the door. “Coward!” My Uncle Apollo yells after me, making me bust out laughing while slipping out of the door. I do not need to be there for that conversation as my Uncle Dominic is going to be so pissed that he was kept in the dark. -Unknown POV- “Sir. I do not mean to question you, but are you sure about this?” I do not say anything for a moment as I slowly raise my head to peer at my subject. I can feel my fangs threatening to drop as I rein in my anger. I hate being questioned. It is useless. “Do you really think it is wise to question me? Do you think of me as a fool?” I ask my subject with the tilt of my head. “No, sir. I am sorry. So sorry, sir.” He quivers out. I flick my wrist at him, letting him know that he can leave. He wastes no time in using his speed to leave my office. I then bring my attention back to the invitation. A birthday party. I must say that I was not surprised to get this, but I am surprised at my reaction. I never attend these things. Something inside me is calling out to me to go. Hmm.
