Brett laid on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Since his thoughts were calm and his body was relaxed, the memories he sought slipped in slowly. That night, he attended the club to drink with his friend. While they joked and experimented on the sparkling wine with everyone over hyped, one of them pointed out to a lady in black dress who was sitting at the bar counter. “I can bet 1000 dollars that you won’t get that lady to lie with you,” the dare came. At that point, his senses weren’t working anymore, and he’d forgotten he was married. In fact, they had forgotten he was married too because they saw his wedding ring as an accessory and took it out of his finger. “Go! Go! Go!” They chanted as they slipped the ring into his trouser pocket. Brett nodded and went to meet this gorgeous figure. Her back was turned towards him, and she was speaking to a regular customer whom he knew. “Amelia, let me steal your guest for a moment,” he suggested. Amelia agreed and walked away, blowing the girl a kiss. It was at that moment, he sat before this gorgeous damsel and caught sight of her gorgeous face. Not only was her hair enticing, her lips were juicy and her skin was smoother than he thought. The sight of her made him aroused, and he wanted nothing else but to have her in his arms. “I see you are into women,” he flirted. She giggled as she shook her head and ran it on his lap. “Nope,” she denied. “I am into hot men like you.” Brett felt his ego heighten at the sound of that. “What’s the name of this gorgeous princess who makes me tremble?” He asked with a smirk. She stood up from where she sat and ran her hand on his lips. “Why don’t you find out yourself?” She whispered with a sexy tone. “Yes, baby,” he nodded like a puppy. “I want to find out in the most enticing way possible.” She rolled her eyes and ran her hand down his arm. “Why don’t you find out somewhere else?” She asked. “This place is too noisy and you won’t be able to hear my voice.” Brett took no time in calling his driver, before carrying the gorgeous lady on his arm. “Sure,” he agreed. “I know a nice place we can spend the night in.” Brett felt depressed recalling how stupid he was that night. As the memories flooded in, getting more and more clearer, he turned to his wife in remorse. Lovelyn has been an amazing wife to him. She sacrificed a lot just to make things work out between them. How could he repay her like that? The worst part was his inability to remember the lady’s face. It was all blurry and foggy. “Who are you?!” He thought. He remembered his s****l moments with this stranger, and knew he'd never treated Lovelyn that way before. The touches, the grab, the tremble… he’s never put that much effort on his wife. Why would he treat a stranger as an exception? Since he was unable to sleep, he went to the living room and laid on the couch. He turned on the TV and shut his eyes hoping he would sleep off due to the background noise. That was all a camouflage because his memories continued to torture him. While he was with that woman that night, he knew she said something about her mother and her lack of trust in men. Her confidence diminished a bit, and she was scared he would hurt her. She said something about how her mother left her dad. Brett wasn’t sure how much the lady overshared that day, he did remember trying to convince her to trust him. They were both delusional, hoping to spend their evenings together and forget each other’s existence. Brett slipped his eyes open realizing this wasn’t helping. He was still unable to fall asleep. His conscience tortured him so much and he wasn’t sure if to tell Lovelyn anything. “Hey, baby,” her voice woke him from his thoughts. “O! Hey,” he sat up promptly. “Are you okay?” She asked. “You left me all alone in the bedroom. I was a bit worried that something was wrong.” Brett smiled and tapped beside him for her to sit. She sat and they cuddled on the couch. “I couldn’t sleep,” he confessed. “Why?” She asked. “Is it your mother?” That too, was a part of his worries. But no, it wasn’t. “It is about everything,” he eventually generalized it. “I am just hoping this works out, and we become the family of three we’ve always wanted. I just pray there won’t be an obstacle in the way.” Lovelyn scoffed. “Obstacle?! No way! We have amazing people around us. Naya is sweet. Your mother was calm when we shared with her the good news. Everything is going fine. Why would you be pessimistic?” Brett brushed it off and kissed her on the cheek, as he increased the cuddle. “You are right,” he smiled. “I am overthinking things.” “You should focus now on to pamper Naya. She is like your temporary wife do now since she she is carrying our child,” Lovelyn said. “You will need to spend time with her, take her to the hospital, buy her everything she needs so that our baby can be strong and hearty!” Brett hated that idea. “Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I am not going to do that,” he refused. “Why?!” Lovelyn was surprised. She pulled away from the cuddle. “You have to. She needs a man in her life right now,” Lovelyn was shocked by his reaction. “Your request makes so sense. She is just a surrogate. She can take care of herself. Why do I have to take care of her?” He asked. “Because you are the father, Brett,” she said. “You need to do it for us. A piece of us is in her womb. If anything happens to the child, I will blame you for it. She can only do what we ask her to.” Brett pulled her for a cuddle again. “Fine,” he said reluctantly. “If you say so.” Lovelyn smiled again. “Remember that she’s coming tomorrow,” Lovelyn reminded. “So, you will need to take her to Doctor Doris for her ultrasound.” Brett hated himself for this.
