“Finish him,” Paddy said quietly. “The man's had enough.” Eventually, the brawler collapsed and refused to stand. With half the teeth knocked from his mouth, both eyes swollen and closed and his nose a smashed mess, he had been defeated a long time previously. As the crowd cheered or mourned, Watters stepped back to examine his surroundings. Beyond the array of candles, he could see only stone walls, until he looked upwards and saw a rectangle of faint yellow light. He allowed his gaze to pass by as if he noticed nothing, and sauntered around the chamber, exchanging casual greetings with his fellow sportsmen.
