Kayla's POV.
I broke the kiss, moving away from him. I couldn't be doing this right now. How could I be so stupid?
Regret hit me in a wave and I shook up. The realization of how serious this situation dawned on me.
“Is there a problem?” The man asked, moving to follow me.
I could only shake my head.
I picked up my discarded clothes putting them on with shaky hands. My ears was ringing even though I tried at much as possible to listen to what he was saying.
"I can't do this" I whispered, walking away to the door and opening it.
“Wait" He called out but I couldn't. I didn’t look back.
I didn't do one night stands, Heck, I was a virgin up till yesterday. My life was officially f****d and in the worst way possible.
What would people say if they found out I slept with a stranger last night?.
I already had it rough and things were about to get worse.
I rushed back home, sneaking into my room, trying my best to calm my heart that was beating erratically.
This wasn't how I planned having my first s****l encounter, I thought I was going to give it up on my wedding night but this was it.
I stared around my room, at the small bed with white sheet. The dresser that held my things. I was in my safe place and yesterday didn't happen.
The knock on my door stole my attention and I scurried, trying to arrange my hair and remove any evidence from last night.
I cleared my throat "yes?"
"Your presence is needed" The person at the other end said. "The Lycan king will be here by noon and I have been ordered to tell everyone to come downstairs. We will be welcoming him in the next 20 minutes"
"I'll be there shortly," I managed to reply, my voice strained.
The Lycan king was all I had heard about all week. From how powerful he was, then how ruthless he was, it went on and on throughout the week since the pack members had made it a point to make him the topic of conversation.
The sound of the head maid walking away from my door brought me into action.
I let go of my dress and made my way into the bedroom, I needed to look presentable or Lily would make it a point to disgrace me at the welcoming.
I immediately took my bath and put on my maid uniform, arranging my collar and packing my hair in a low bun, making sure I looked perfectly okay.
Stepping outside, I met with the rest of the maids, they were all dressed and also ready for the day.
Despite what had happened last night, I needed to act cool and collected.
Inhaling and exhaling, I watched my stepsister walk out from her chambers with the grace and confidence I wished I had.
They were dressed nicely, possibly wanting to get the attention of the Lycan king.
I knew them too well and could tell that this was just going to be a day when they would tried to throw themselves at him.
Lily stepped forward and stood in front of I and the maids, staring straight at the entrance doorway as she gave us instructions. When she spoke, her voice cut through the quiet tension in the room.
"Remember your place, maids. My brother and the Alpha king will arrive soon. No mistakes, no missteps. You cannot afford to incur their wrath."
Her last words lingered, reminding us of the serious trouble we'd be in if we failed. I felt a wave of fear go through me, but I didn't want to let it control me.
I straightened my shoulders and prepared myself mentally, ready to deal with whatever happened next. But I was worried of how my step brother would treat me, he hated me more than my step sisters did.
He had been away from the house for a while, and that was the only thing that brought a sense of calmness to me. But he was coming and I feared this day wouldn't end well for me.
Soon after, we could hear excited voices coming from outside. The cheers and chants praising the king grew louder and clearer as they got closer to us.
"Hail the king," they repeated over and over, their voices full of admiration and respect for him. I could feel the vibrations of their unified voices resonating through the castle walls. My heart was pounding with anticipation as we bowed our heads down, our eyes fixed on the cold stone floor beneath us.
The loud cheering and chanting from the crowd outside signaled the king's arrival was here.
The air was still, filled with tension and wonder was building up as we awaited the king's appearance.
We had been instructed to keep our faces down and not look up until we were told to do so. As the gates creaked open, the sound of footsteps on the floor cut through the silence and I had the urge to look up but I knew that was only going to put me in trouble.
The room was completely silent and I stayed frozen. He was here.
I could feel my heart pounding hard in my chest, my palms getting sweaty. Suddenly, the silence was broken by the Lycan King's booming, deep commanding voice. "You may all rise now," he ordered.
Following his command, I and the other maids gradually raised our heads, then stood up to our full heights.
As I looked at the face of the two men standing in front of us my heart skipped as my eyes came in contact with those of my step brother. He looked at me with absolute disgust and hatred and I couldn’t help but feel dread in my stomach.
Just as I turned to take a proper look at the Lycan King, my heart skipped a million times again. For the very first time, I felt like I couldn't breathe. It didn't seem possible. A million thoughts raced through my mind, but none of them made any sense.
How could the stranger I had met and hooked up with for one night at the bar actually be the Lycan King, my stepbrother’s best friend?
As the king finally looked into my eyes, it felt like time froze. His intense blue eyes stared back at me, showing he recognized me as he likely realized he had let himself sleep with one of his servants.
The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife as the Lycan King and I stood there, sharing a silent moment. He knew, I knew and I hope that was where it ended.
My stepsisters eyes clashed with mine, their confusion clear and it was only a matter of time till they figured it out.
Holy mother-f*****g moon goddess, give me a break.
