My fist froze inches from Kain's jaw, the impact lingering in the air as her words hit me harder than Kain's blow ever could.
Even Kain was shocked by her words. He turned to look at her then back at me. He seized the moment, yanking free from my grip, his lips curling into that smug grin I despised. His voice dripped with satisfaction as he turned toward her. “Wise choice, Kayla. You’ll find I’m far better company.”
For a moment I couldn't move, unable to recognize the person who stood in front of me, my chest tightened, fury and disbelief swirling inside me. I clenched my fists, trying to keep control.
