Happiest day

1157 Words
Nathan I pick up my buzzing phone. “Brian?” “How are you, Sir?” I shake my head. Brian has been calling every time Amari is not nearby. I am starting to think that all he does these days is surveilling Jame, following my wife and calling me. “Still fine, as I was an hour ago,” I say, amused and he laughs. “Mrs Lord is fine. The scoundrel has moved out of the apartment,” “He did?” “Yes, Sir.” “Why?” I am happy that James will be far away from us, but it seems odd that he would move away from Amari. “Your aged friends chased him away. It was quite funny. That Mrs Gail is fierce, she knocked him with her walking stick before others joined in. Dude ran with his tail between his legs.” I burst out in laughter. I can imagine how funny that was. “I hope you have the footage,” I say with my fingers crossed. “Of course, Sir.” “Send it to me, please.” A few minute later, I am cracking up in the ward like a crazy man. James would have been very stupid to retaliate against a mob of old men and women. Not even his crooked cops would be able to wipe that out. It is visiting hours and Amari shows up not impressed. “Babe?” I ask when she does not bless me with her breathtaking smile. “You told me that you fell. You lied to me,” she accuses while I curse inside. I was busy laughing at James being beaten up by my friends and completely missed a very crucial matter. Isaac or someone must have told them what James did for them to be so angry. That meant that Amari would find out too. “I get why you did not tell me, Nathan, but…” “I am sorry. I did not want to risk you facing him. It might have been his plan to get to you,” I explain myself. “I understand, but I hate lies, Nathan.” “I know, Babe. I am sorry.” She shrugs and hands me a lunchbox and a bag full of fruits. “Amari, please,” I plead. I don’t think I can think straight when she is mad at me. “You are forgiven. Eat.” I open the lunchbox and my mouth immediately waters. No one cooks like my wife. “Thank you, Love,” I say with my mouth already stuffed. “The physiotherapist says your walking is impressive.” I nod my head. The feelings on my legs returned three weeks after that i***t got me injured again. Luckly, the damage was not as severe, and I seem to improve faster than I did after the car accident. “That’s good, just don’t rush,” she advises before telling me about the whole year grocery voucher she won from her coupon collection. “Coupon?” I ask, dumbfounded. “Yes, remember those grocery papers I cut off the newspapers?” “Oh, yes. Congratulations, Love!” I beam, suddenly dawning on me that this is another one of Brian’s way of getting us groceries without raising suspicion. With the hospitals no longer hiring Amari, the money she earned before she was accused of seducing that bigot is bound to run out. “I still can’t believe it. We can have monthly groceries worth three thousand every month for a year,” she beams. “We don’t even use half of that in a month,” she adds before pouting and I know what is coming. “Hey, I can buy for Mrs Gail and Brother Malcom too.” I smile, because I had already guessed this. Those two are the kindest and most generous, yet they can hardly get by. My wife is truly an angel. “I am sure they would appreciate that.” It’s almost time for her to leave when she hesitates. I squeeze her hand. “I miss you too,” I say, and she blushes. That is actually an understatement on my part. I have been in hospital for over a month now. I miss my wife like hell. “That’s not what I was going to say.” “You don’t miss me?” I pretend to be hurt and she rolls her eyes at me while I laugh. “You know I do. The apartment is so lonely without you. Has the doctor said when he plans to discharge you?” she asks while I frown. She is the one who has been telling me to be patient and not force to be discharged and today she is asking this. “What’s going on?” I ask, studying her closely. She opens and closes her mouth. There is definitely something she is keeping from me. “Amari?” “I…” she halts before completely changing my life and future plans. “I have been feeling under the weather,” she says, and I can’t stop smiling. “Okay?” I say with a huge grin on my face. She is glowing and emotional lately. I can’t believe that I missed this. “I am with child.” “Of course, you are. Come here,” I pull her to the bed and passionately kiss her. “Nathan!” she cries when she notices that all eyes are on us. “Let them look. Babe, we are pregnant!” I shout out with joy. She lets out a sigh and smiles. “So, you are okay with this?” I can tell from her expression that she is really relieved by this. “This is the best news ever. Why would I not be okay with us having a baby?” “Well…, babies are expensive, and we had not talked about it. I was not sure how you would react.” “You were not sure how I would react? Why would I make love to you every chance I got with no protection if I did not want the results of our passion?” I pose the question back at her and she blushes. Lord, she is so hot when she blushes. I place my hand over her tummy, my heart full. “Hey there, little one. Its your daddy here. I need you to behave and stop making my wife sick, okay?” She laughs and covers my hands with his. I can safely say this is the best day of my life. “I have only done the urine test. My clinic appointment is next week,” she tells me and my mind is made up. “Great. We will both go,” I say decisively. I don’t care what the doctors say, I am going home before then.
