RAY OF HOPE?

2816 Words
Dave's cave looked just like any typical normal cave. Nothing special. Just dark looking and a home to lots of spiders. The weather was really cold due to that season that month. She knew she'd die of cold without fire. Luckily Dave mum understood her kind of body function and lit her a fire deep so as for her to keep warm. The young lady thanked her in smiles.  "It's okay dear. We treat our ladies nicely here" She said.  "Why kill them after three months?" Olivia decided to ask with curiosity.  "It's part of the rules. We have no control over that but don't worry. You will enjoy your stay for the meantime"  "So you mean there is no means of me surviving after three months"  " There is and that's only if the Alpha loves you that much to fight for you. I don't think Dave will wish to fight for you. He is one who thinks only about himself and doesn't before in mates standing by their Alphas and all that"  "Why did he choose to be like this?" "Because he was often controlled by his dad as a child. He doesn't want to follow orders anymore. I feel children are like this as they grow older"  "Yes. They tend to get more open minded and adventurous but I do feel Dave should learn how to embrace others ideas as well. He is shutting everyone off'  "My love, teach him that" "He still never listen to me"  "I am sure he will. It might take time but he is actually a sensitive type. He will definitely listen to you"  Sensitive you say. Olivia knew she couldn't disagree more. How could she tell this mother how wicked her son was? How could she tell her he forced himself on her and forced her for being seductive? Perhaps she wouldn't be able to handle the true.   Kiara, Dave's mum walked out a few minutes later after ensuring she was comfortable and needed nothing. She promised to send a helper later that evening to get her whatever she wanted. Olivia wasn't sure if that would be of great help. No matter how much they tried making her feel comfortable, she would never feel she belonged. She wasn't a werewolf for crying out loud. She wasn't an animal but a human. Where was going to get human food and drinks? What were they going to feed her with? Blood?  For over two hours, she sat in front of the fire reminding herself how much her life sucked and how much she was gonna lose just staying with a pack of wolves and being forced to commit to an Alpha who barely stares at her. She wasn't sure how much she could take anymore. She wasn't even sure how to get out of this mess. She felt tears roll down her cheeks uncontrollably. She hadn't forced it down. It just flowed as she stared into the fire reminiscing her sister.  "She was stubborn but I still cared about her" She thought to herself regretting the times she was mean to her little sister. She didn't realize Dave walked in. When she did, she'd caught her staring at her with disgust. She expected that and said nothing. She stared back at the fire still sobbing.  "Weakling. I wonder why I had to be paired with you" he'd say to her coldly as he took off his jacket. She said nothing. He didn't seem to mind. He walked deeper into the cave hoping to not see her in sight. In a few minutes, she heard him snoring. He was already fast asleep.  *** The next morning, she woke up feeling aches all over her. She couldn't even sleep well the previous night. The floor was so hard that she was sure it broke her spinal code or ruined her posture. She could barely bend herself. How much she missed her soft king size bed! How long was she going to leave like this. Luckily, she didn't have to see Dave that morning because he wasn't in the cave when she had woken up. Kiara came around that morning with a bunch of poorly weave clothing.  "Not the best kind for a princess but it is all we have" She explained. Olivia accepted the clothing knowing she had no other choice. She already smelled in this one anyways. "I am still concerned though. How did you get that stain in your dress again?"  Olivia was surprised, wondering why she brought up the stain again. Was his mother in doubt? What would be the fate of this heartless Alpha if his secret were to be out? Should she betray him and get her sweet revenge? "I injured myself on the leg. The stain got onto my gown while trying to treat it" She chose to lie instead.  "I can't see any wound Olivia," Kiara said in doubt.  "It was not a serious wound. It's gone" She said feigning smiles.  "Are you sure? If there is anything you are hiding, it's better you tell me now. It could get you in trouble later on" Kiara warned politely.  "I am serious. It's nothing" Kiara wasn't still convinced but she nodded. The new helper walked in at this moment with a basket of berries and jar of milk which she hadn't expected to see to be honest.  "I told her to get you some human food. This is all we can find for now. We will try getting more for you" Kiara explained. Olivia smiled broadly at the sight of this meal. Though it wasn't the type of meal she would have wanted to eat on a normal day but who cares, she was already living a crazy life so eating crazily wasn't a surprise anymore. Even the food combination was horrible. She wouldn't be surprised if her stomach decides to turn it's back to her.  "Where is Dave?"  "He didn't tell me where he was going off to this morning"   "That guy is so stubborn" his mum said go herself not sure of what to do anymore. "Have you tried talking to him?"  "He doesn't even look at him"  "You have to try and get close to him" "I don't want to"  *** Days passed she saw no sign of Dave anywhere. Kiara kept coming over to the cave to give her supplies she needed to survive all by herself. This ought to be the Alpha duty, she heard the pained mum say. Olivia wasn't surprised at all at the character of the guy but she'd feel bad for his mum who seemed to have so much hope in him. A week later, she offered to take a bath in any water source they had. Kiara informed her of a river close by considering it safe for her beauty bath. She set off a plan to leave for the river along side with the helper the following day.  "It's not safe for a mate to leave for a kind of bath like this without her Alpha by her side" the helper warned as they got ready to leave that morning.  "I haven't seen Dave in almost two weeks. I have to do what I have to do right?" She said to the lady with a shrug. The lady didn't like this idea but she knew she had no say. They both began their journey to the river which was a few kilometers away from the pack land. The sun wasn't out yet so the weather was cool. This was the perfect time to meditate a little in the river. Arriving, she slowly took off her clothing and walked into the river completely naked. She could feel the touch of water on her skin after so many days.  "This feels so cool. You all are really missing out" she said with an enthusiastic expression as she poured a handful of water in her hair.  "We are only wolves. We don't need a bath" the helper said, sitting on a rock beside the river watching her closely.  "What do you all do though? Just serve your mate or what?"  "Unfortunately that's all we do but on some other occasion we have a fighting competition among the strongest werewolves. The strongest gets to have his own territory." "What's so special about having a territory of your own?"  "According to what I heard, if you have your own territory you will be able to independently control your pack, do whatever you wish to do and have your own rule"  Olivia seemed to be liking where this conversation is going. At least there was something fun to talk about.  "Can an Alpha participate?" She asked.  "Unfortunately no. The Alpha already has his own clan and that's the one inherited from his father" "What if the Alpha doesn't want to rule under his father anymore?" "He is called a traitor and punished severely. He faces defamation and is devalued by all those who love him"  That seemed deep. All this just due to a clan. All this sounded funny and childish to Olivia. Why couldn't they just get along and stop all this inheritance stuff? Let someone who is interested in inheriting inherit and someone who wants to gets a territory happily do so. Why the discrimination and discrete. As she thought of this, she shut her eyes and decided to meditate for a while. She tried clearing her head of disturbing thought and taking a deep breath. As she did this, the thought of whatever happened the night she was bonded with the Alpha all came back to her. At first she confused of what her mind was trying to tell her, but having recalled the amount of alcohol she had consumed that night, she began to believe whatever Dave could have said. She was heavily drunk. She had no idea what she was doing. This all made sense now. But was this why Dave was avoiding her though? Why wasn't he ready to tell his parents they had bonded physically?  "What happens if an Alpha and his mate commit physically on the first day?" She decided to ask.  "It depends on the clan. If by anyway the Alpha had touched you and you get pregnant, it will cause a conflict between him and his brother and he will eventually have to choose between giving up his position or killing you and your child"  "What?" Olivia exclaimed in shock. "Why is everything so dark here?" "That is how it has been run for years. Dave knows already so I sure he wouldn't dare endanger your life like that" Olivia faked a smile. Her life was already endangered. They will eventually kill her anyway. What difference does it make if she gets pregnant or not.  *** "Come on Uncle Dave, how many more times will you gather the sticks again?" A pack of small baby wolves asked as they raced round Dave who seemed to be enjoying playing fetch with them.  "None of you have been able to find my finest stick yet. Which shows how great I am in this game" "No you are not. You threw it too far" Gublin the youngest of them all grumbled as he playfully stumped his legs on the ground. Dave smiled and rubbed him playfully on the head.  "Perhaps that's because I am very tall huh" "Why don't you turn to your wolf form though? Why do you like staying in this fleshy one?" Another asked curiously.  "That's because I enjoy my human form more" he answered politely.  "Well, too bad not everyone of us are werewolves," Helen whimpered sadly.  "It doesn't matter. Being a wolf tends to be stronger at the end of the day. Be proud of your form"  Helen seemed to like this idea. She raced round him and jumped into his arms playfully.  "You're the best werewolf we have ever seen. You're so nice to us"  They were interrupted by an older wolf who walked out of a nearby cave with a concerned look.  "It's enough now kids. Go in, the weather isn't favorable for you"  "Come on mum, we wish to stay longer" they nagged slinging onto Dave's feet hoping he defends them.  "Your friend Dave won't save you this time. It's time you go in" She insisted propelling them in with her nose as she nudged them. They sadly walked in not ready to stop the fun.  "They love you too much. Sometimes I wonder if they are still my children" The wolf said softly.  "They are adorable. I love them. They keep my mind off my dad and all this chaos back at the clan"  "Dave, for how long will you avoid her. You have been staying here for two weeks now trying to avoid even mentioning her name. What if she is hurt or something?" "She isn't. My mum is there to take care of her"  "Your mum isn't going to watch her all day. You have to be there to support her emotionally especially after the fact she was separated from her human species. Do you know how draining this will be for her?"  "She is pain itself. I don't want to feel weak around her"  "You won't. She has to be your strength instead. Go to her and support her as an Alpha"  "I rather not" Dave insisted with an adamant look.  "Just try. Please"  *** Olivia could feel herself trembling with fever due to the amount of time she spent in the cold river that morning. If only she'd be warned not to stay too long under the cool weather. Kiara was no where to be found nor was the helper. She was all by herself in the cold lonely cave, left alone to fend for herself. She reached out for two sticks with her trembling hands and tried lighting a fire in order to warm herself but it wasn't working out for her. Her hands were shaking very badly and worst, she seemed to have relied on Kiara a little bit too much. She barely knew how to even light the fire herself.  "Let me help you" She heard Dave tell her as he approached her having caught sight of her struggling with the stones.  "I can do it myself" She said stubbornly not ready to give up. He ignored her anyway and collected the stones, strikes it together ones and lit the fire without much effort. She got a little surprised on how strong he was. Even his mum couldn't light it that fast. "How long have you felt this way?"  "Excuse me?" She asked with surprise.  "How long have you actually felt sick?" He asked again.  "Just this evening. I went off to bath in the river and didn't realize the weather wasn't favorable" she explained, managing to speak.  "What? You went to bathe in the river by yourself?"  "No. I went with Jenny. My helper" "You are not supposed to expose yourself like that in a public sight. What if another wolf saw you?"  "And who exactly cares?" She asked lividly.  "You are my mate. I can't allow that"  "You never care about me so just leave that speech to yourself. You only care about yourself and reputation. I am sure if you had a chance, you would willingly tell me to mate another wolf but ensure it is kept a secret between us"  "That will never happen" He protested. Olivia wasn't sure of how to interpret his expression anymore. He seemed really angry now at the mention of her having a bath in a river but he was never concerned at the mention of her future death. He walked outside for a while and walked back with some leaves. Marshing the leaves with a stone, he was able to make a paste. "Eat this. It will make you feel better"  "Is it bitter?" She asked with doubt as she stared at the green paste.  "Do you wish to feel better or not?" He asked coldly. She nodded she wanted to feel better and took a bite of the paste in her mouth. It wasn't all that bitter. It was almost blunt. He began rubbing the rest of the paste on her hands and feet.  "I remember what happened that night" She finally spoke out.  "I didn't force…"  "I know and I am sorry for accusing you wrongly. I was drunk and I was trying to prove to you, I often threw up anytime I tried getting intimate with a man. I never thought it would turn out fine with you. I am sorry"  Dave said nothing. He stood up as soon as he was done with the paste application and headed over to sit beside the entrance of the cave.  "Next time, tell me before you go to the river. I will come with you"
