The packhouse was a flurry of activity for the next several days as doctors worked to heal the wounded, others cleaned up the evidence from the fight, and as we struggled to go back to normality. With a few upgrades of course. James and Lucio were back together, being a gross new couple. Kat and Jace were helping the fortification projects, while I was forced to stay in bed. Adrian needed time to recover, or at least he claimed he did. So he and I sat in bed, binge-watching shows on Netflix while working on plans on how to make the pack strong enough to take on Xander's rogues.
We got lucky this time, but I am not so sure about next time. I looked over to Adrian to see that his face was still partially bandaged from being attacked. His hazel eyes were quickly shifting to black and then back to hazel. I knew that he wasn't focusing on the movie that we had put on.
"Adrian? Dominic? Are you two okay?" I asked, unsure which one would win the inner fight that they were clearly having. He was silent for a long time as if finishing up one conversation before starting another one with me. I didn't mind though; I did sort of interrupt him so I could wait. When he finally did speak, I didn't know which one of them to expect, the human or the wolf. It was only when I heard the less husky voice that I knew that it was Adrian. Not that I didn't like talking with Dominic. His voice, no offense, was a bit sexier.
"Fine. Dominic is simply being pissy since it's getting close to the full moon and we aren't fully marked yet. He's also being pissy since we haven't taken the next step in our relationship." I blushed deeply and covered my face. I knew that eventually this would be brought up. It would be a lie if I said I hadn't thought about it. Adrian was not only my mate but a very attractive man as well. He chuckled ad he pulled me into his lap. I could feel how excited he already was just thinking about it.
"My love, there's no rush. With everything we've been through, I could never ask when we are both so stressed," he said, his face buried into my neck. He nipped at my mark, causing me to suck in a breath. "We have the rest of our lives to know each other in that kind of intimate way." He pulled back to reveal his eyes were pitch black, but his voice showed it was still him instead of his wolf.
"I know. It's just that..." I hid my face in his neck now. He ran his fingers through my hair. He waited patiently for me to finish my thought, but I secretly hoped he would catch on to my meaning. It didn't seem like he did.
He sighed. "It's just that you've never been with someone in that nature, huh?" He asked gently. I nodded, my face still hidden. He kissed my temple and pushed me away from him to look into my eyes. "Darling, I am too. I knew that I would have a mate for as long as I've been alive. Why would I want to do such a thing with anyone but my mate?" This information shocked me. I would have thought that he would have she-wolves falling all over themselves to get a piece of him.
"Really?" He nodded. "Thank God. I thought I was a weirdo for being a virgin at 21." Relief washed over me. He was barely older than me, but he still was one himself. I wasn't just some nerdy loser who couldn't get a guy to sleep with her.
He rolled us over so that he was hovering over me. "Trust me, Love, you are a weirdo, but you're MY weirdo. And I love every bit of you." He kissed my nose and laid down so his head rested right over my pounding heard. I knew he could hear how fast it was, but was grateful he didn't say anything. "Let's just go to bed for now and cross that bridge when we get to it, okay, my love?" He said so sweetly, my heart nearly melted for him. So that's what we did. We fell asleep in each other's arms so that we could focus on the matters at hand instead of making things more complicated.
I had to remember that Xander was still out there and he still had my family captured. He also still wanted me to be his replacement mate so that he could control the entirety of the Lycan population. s*x should be the last thing on our minds. I groaned inwardly at the thought, but it was the truth.
When we finally got up, we decided that we had spent enough time in bed and decided that we needed to get back to our duties as Alpha and Luna. So that is what we did. Adrian even put on a snazzy suit and shaved the five o'clock shadow that was more than just a shadow at that point. I borrowed more clothes from Gwen until I could get some more of mine or until my old ones were washed. Either way, we both were now presentable for the rest of the pack.
I went down to breakfast to find that most of it was already eaten and that I was the only one there. That didn't stop me from grabbing myself a healthy portion while Adrian wandered in with just a mug for coffee. I didn't even say anything, I just glared at him until he caved. He grabbed a plate and piled it twice as high as my own and started to chow down on the assortment of items that he grabbed.
"I don't normally eat breakfast," he admitted around a mouthful of food. I rolled my eyes and continued to dig into my own portion of scrambled eggs, hashbrown, and sausage links. No bacon today, it must have all been eaten by the time we had gotten here.
"That's not good for you. How can you place a good example for your pack if you don't even eat breakfast like the rest of them?" I asked. His cheeked got a light dusting of pink but he didn't say anything. I just giggled as I finished off my breakfast and walked past him to put my plate in the dishwasher, pecking him on the cheek as I walked passed. "So what's on the agenda for the day? More training? Paperwork?"
He sighed. "I have to check my finances for work since I have been neglecting that due to being locked away in a dungeon and then in my room recovering. I did manage to call my superiors to let them know that I had a family emergency and was unable to call until the majority of it was taken care of. Said that I thought a parent was on their death beds due to a car accident." I snorted. That sneaky son of a bitc--- oops, probably shouldn't even think that since his mother is actually a werewolf and all.
I followed him into his office after he had finished his own meal. The paperwork was piled so high, I couldn't see him getting anything done in a timely fashion. Good thing I wasn't planning on doing whatever he was doing. Now that I think about it, I don't think I ever even asked what he did for work outside of the pack business. "I work at a private company that specializes in surveillance, personal bodyguards and the like. Wolves are good at that sort of thing due to heightened senses so I have a lot of my guys working there, it's just the higher-ups that are humans and don't know that the best of their best are werewolves." I nodded.
"I guess that makes sense. So, say that someone was going into witness protection-"
"Not really our thing unless the government outsources to us. We are more like, if you were an important foreign prime minister's daughter who's father paid for the best protection that money could buy, they would go through us to find the perfect candidate. There's a bunch of females working there too so they could even request to have a girl bodyguard if the father, mother, or the person being protected didn't want a specific gender to guard them if they were afraid of, say, s****l relations happening." I smirked at the way he had worded it. "Don't laugh, this is important work that I'm doing! If you're not going to help then no more distractions." He basically shooed me from his office. I huffed as I left.
"Fine, if you don't want my distractions, I'll go distract someone else." I winked to him over my shoulder as I opened the door.
He growled lowly as I giggled on the way out. The door clicked behind me with his growls still rumbling through the heavy wooden door. I scoured the packhouse in search of James or Kat. But knowing how hectic everything has been they were most likely with their mates at this hour. Doing what, I wasn't sure I wanted to know. I haven't gotten to know most of the pack yet, so I knew that if I couldn't find them, I could at least try to get to know everyone else.
I went out into the back yard when I finished searching most of the rooms that weren't bedrooms of other wolves. That's where I ended up finding them. There was a gaggle of children that were playing or coloring at different wooden picnic tables that I didn't know where they were dragged from. With them was Kat, James, Lucio, and Jace. I leaned against the door frame as I watched them. Kat has always been good with little kids. She was going to school to be a kindergarten teacher.
James was helping another little boy pick out colors to fill in his coloring pages. Jace wrestled with some of the other children that were running around the yard while Lucio watched from one of the tables with a little girl in his lap. She had different colored markers and was drawing on his arms different flowers and other cute shapes. I was surprised to see that the Prince of the Lycan world wasn't getting mad that a child was drawing on him. That is until I saw him reach for a marker of his own to color in one of the flowers that the little girl drew.
"It's beautiful, huh?" A familiar voice asked from behind me. It was Chase, our pack's Omega. I remembered that he was young, but now he looked so much older. How long has it been since I saw a member of my own pack? Well, he did help take care of everyone so he must have been busy. And with the war preparations going on he must have been moved in order to help. Plus, I did go to Italy, though it was only for a short time. Like not even three days and I was back here getting ready to go to war to save my pack and my parents.
Which, I am surprised that the Rogues haven't tried calling to try and get us to save them. I will have to talk to Adrian about them. They are still with a Rogue pack of werewolves with them doing who knows what. I just hope that they weren't hurt. Chase called my name and I snapped from my thoughts. "Geez, Luna, you zone out a lot don't you?" He said with a teasing smile. I send a shaky one back, but he looked like he was concerned about me when I did.
"Sorry, I was just thinking that I haven't seen you in a long time when really it was just a short time ago. I haven't been in this pack for very long, but with the Rogue's most likely preparing harder for war and the fact that they have my parents, and Adrian is still recovering from the silver bars and wolfbane injections. I'm sorry, I just haven't been myself lately." I sighed as I turned back to my friends enjoying their time with the pack's children. To think that those innocent children could eventually be the ones protecting and running this pack is astounding to me since they are still so young.
"Anyway, the pups are always so cute and rambunctious at this age." He looked out into the bright afternoon as the children continued their games or drawings. Jace, Kate, James, and Lucio haven't even seemed to have noticed us yet.
"Pups?" I asked, trying to figure out if they had some hidden litter of puppies around here somewhere. I scanned the yard but found nothing. I started to point when I didn't get to see any cute baby doggies.
Chase laughed. I glared at him. "Right, I mean the children. I watch them every day around this time while their parents work or train. It's just for a few hours after school. Anyway, it's just sort of a habit of mine to call them pups since they have a wolf spirit inside of them too. The wolf part lays dormant until they are sixteen, which is why I am so big for my age. But the child and the wolf can still communicate with each other when they learn to talk. I don't remember what it feels like to be a baby, but I have heard rumors that they are aware of each other since the day that they are born." I nodded along, trying to understand as much about this as I can. I wish this is all I have to deal with this early into the game of finding out that the guy that kidnapped me is a werewolf and my mate.
I knew that this was something that my own children would be dealing with, so I had to learn everything that I could so that I could easily help them as best as I could with my human limitations. "I have a question about the naming system for the human and wolf spirit of a child werewolf. Do I have to come up with two names whenever I have a child? Or does the child name the wolf? Or does the wolf name itself?" I was just spouting useless questions at this point, but Chase took it in stride.
"Each pack does it differently. We have continued on the traditions of the Scarlet Azalea pack where when the wolf is finally able to transform they choose their own names," he explained. "Though the children do come up with names or nicknames to call them until they reach sixteen. My wolf settled on the name Kyzer. But before that, I called him Fluffy. He hated it. He wanted a cool nickname that sounded tough." I laughed. A werewolf named Fluffy, now that was too funny. I wonder what Adrian's wolf name was before it was Dominic.
I smiled as I turned back to the children... No, the pups. If I was going to be a Luna, I needed to start thinking like a wolf, not a human. The children were rolling around in the grass, not caring that it was a warm day that was starting to redden the skin of their soft cheeks as the now wolf form Jace was rolling on his back like a giant dog trying to mask his scent in something he found in the grass. His tongue lulled out of his mouth and was dripping with a bit of saliva.
"I hope that once this is all said and done with that things can go back to normal," Chase sighed longingly. I scoffed.
"I don't think I know what normal even means at this point. I am the mate of an Alpha werewolf while his crazy rogue brother wants to take over the wolf world with me as his queen. I don't think there is normal after that."
