~Jax~
Goddess! Janice from a million years ago…..well, it feels like a million years ago. I hadn’t seen her since before all of the drama we went through here. We would hook up from time to time, but I swear I never promised her anything more. I definitely didn’t give her the impression that we were an item. I don’t even remember doing anything significant with her.
Melanie walking in was right on time. I’m not sure what Janice was hoping to do, but it wasn’t looking good. “Who’s this?”
“This is, uh, Janice…..Janice….”
“Brownwood! Janice Brownwood.” She said it with a bit of a bite. Janice moves to my side to stand close to me while glaring at Melanie.
Is there something you need to tell me, Jaxy?
Hell no! We will talk, but let me get rid of her first.
“So….” I shift Kamila in my arms. She hasn’t let me go since Janice released us, and I’m beginning to think that Janice will not be one of her favorite people. “Is it just you joining the pack, alone?” Janice grins at me. I guess it’s supposed to be sexy or something.
“I’m not mated if that’s what you meant.”
“No, actually, I wasn’t asking that at all.” Janice’s face falls a bit, but she covers it up quickly.
“I’m here with my sister. She didn’t join me today.”
“Well, let’s get her here and then we can discuss the possibility of you two joining the pack.” Janice smiles at me and leans in to kiss me. I lean back until I feel like I’m going to fall. Janice finally gets the hint and huffs before walking out of the office.
“And what was all that about?” I roll my eyes and shake my head at Melanie.
"We'll talk later." I haven’t eaten, and it’s long overdue. I kiss Kamila a few times until she perks up with a giggle and head to the dining room to see what’s left for breakfast.

I found a music channel on television, which was surprising. Usually, these motel T.V.s don’t have good channels. I’ve been really into this great book I picked up before we hit the road. It’s a suspenseful love story, and I’ve been eating it up. I jump at the slamming of the door. My sister has been gone all day. I woke up this morning to an empty room. There was no note, no money, nothing at all. Luckily, I have my own cash and was able to get some food for myself. I had no idea when she would get back or even if she would return today, so I wasn’t really expecting her.
The last few months at school have been so stressful that sleeping has been hard. I’ve had so many late-night/early mornings and basic all-nighters. I’ve been without regular sleep for a while, so I spent the day in and out of sleep. I can’t remember the last time I was actually able to relax like this, and I tried to savor every minute of it. Traveling also took a lot out of me, so the sleep was really needed.
Janice comes stumbling into the room, knocking into the dresser and the small table. She strips her clothes off as she goes to the bathroom. I guess she had a busy day today. I thought we would try to get into this new pack today, but I guess she had something better to do.
I open my laptop and start to do some research. There is a site for werewolves, as crazy as that sounds. You can find basic information about any pack in the country, including their contact information. Not every pack is featured on this site because everyone doesn’t want their location and other information known. I know for a fact that my former pack is not on this site. I hear the pack we are going to is reputable, so I assume their information will be listed.
I type in ‘Summit Mountain’ and am immediately hit with the most amazing pictures of their packhouse. It’s a massive building that must be 4 or 5 stories. I imagine there are so many pack members there. I look further down the page and see the pack's Alphas. They are Kehlani Masters-Winters and Jayden Winters. They are a beautiful couple and look so deeply in love. I always wished I could meet my mate and be that happy.
These information pages usually have the Beta and Gamma listed as well. I scroll down for that information, and my hand stops when I see him. My hand starts to shake, and my heart starts to beat faster. I don’t know what it is about this man. I mean, he’s gorgeous, yes, but I swear there’s something more there. His blonde hair is slicked back, and his blue eyes are so jovial. He has the sexiest smile on his face, and I can feel myself melting. I notice he’s the Beta of the pack, Mr. Jax Percy. I say the name in my head, and I can feel my core tighten. It feels as if his eyes are burning a hole through me, as if they are only for me. I know that’s crazy because this is a picture on the internet. He doesn’t even know who I am or that I exist, but the feeling is still there. I don’t understand what’s going on with me. I’ve seen attractive men before, but this is crazy.
The bathroom door flies open, hitting the wall. Janice stumbles out into a towel, followed by a cloud of smoke. I close my laptop quickly, not wanting to be caught ogling who might be my new Beta. Janice falls onto her bed, face down. “You had better be up early tomorrow. We need to go to Summit Mountain.”
“What time?” I wait for a few minutes but get no response. We need to go to the pack tomorrow to see about getting in. I bet I will run into Mr. Percy when I’m on packlands. I jump off the bed and start to shuffle through my suitcase. I need to figure out what I’m going to wear.
