Chapter 27

~Shanice~ What did you do? I…Uh….. LOLA! What the f**k did you just do?! I’m sorry. I got caught up in the moment. I’ve wanted him so badly, and I just got caught up. I put the block up, not being able to take her anymore. I can’t believe this just happened. I can’t believe I marked Jax. I did it without a conversation, without his permission. OMG! He’s going to be so pissed. He’s going to order me in the cells for taking advantage of him. He’s my fated mate, but that doesn’t mean I can do whatever I want without permission. I can feel my heartbeat getting erratic as the thoughts of what just happened flash in my mind. There can be so many responses to my marking Jax, many of which aren’t good. What if he decides I was too forward, and that causes a rift between us? What if he didn’t want to be marked? You can’t take a mark away. Much like a tattoo, it’s meant to be permanent (even though there are ways to remove tattoos these days.” Jax is still inside of me, and the room is silent. My head is in my chest; I’m too nervous to look Jax in the face. I can feel my face heating up and the tears threatening to fall from my eyes. My breathing is becoming erratic; my chest is tightening with each attempt. I think I’m going to have a panic attack or something. “Shanice?” My lip quivers as I try my hardest to hold the tears in. “Shanice?” Jax’s fingers make their way under my chin, and he lifts my head. The minute our eyes meet, I lose control and sob hysterically. ~Jax~ WOW! I can’t believe Shanice marked me. I knew we would finally mate, but I wasn’t going to even broach the topic of marking at this time. I figured that we would need to discuss it to make sure she was comfortable with making things permanent. I’m shocked, and I’m……I’m f**king pumped! My sexy ass mate marked me! Damn, I’m a lucky man. We are marked! I know, buddy, I know. I’m so happy, but Lola is sad. Lola is her wolf? Yes, she’s very sad, and I don’t know why. It was at that moment that I noticed Shanice was being extra quiet. She isn’t looking at me; her head is on her chest. She seems like she’s getting a bit worked up. I hope that she isn’t getting sick. I call her name twice, but she doesn’t respond. I pull her face up to look at her, and she unloads. The sobs coming from Shanice are shaking her body and hurting my heart. I would never have thought a marking would end in so much displeasure. I can’t stand to see her like this. I try to wipe her tears, but they are falling like a waterfall. There seems to be no end to her pain, and I don’t know how to calm her down. I wrap my arms around Shanice and hold her close to me. I continually kiss her head while whispering soft words to her. I stroke her back over and over again, hoping it’s enough to pull her out of this funk. After a while, Shanice finally quiets her sobbing, and her body stops shaking as violently as it was. “Shanice?” She sniffs and whimpers. I kiss her on the forehead. “What’s wrong, baby?” Shanice sits up and looks at me. “I’m ssssssooooooo sssssssoooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy!” Shanice starts to sob again, and I try to fight the smile that is trying to grace my features. It would be funny how upset she is about marking me if she weren’t so distraught. I kiss her on her face over and over again. “Baby, why are you so upset?” “I….I…..mmmmmarked you wwwwwithout asking! Lola lost ccccccontrol and marked you.” I try to dry her eyes again and hold her face so she has to look at me. “Do you see me complaining?” Shanice doesn’t respond, and I kiss both her eyes. “Come on, love. Dry those eyes. I’m not mad at all. Actually, I think it’s pretty sexy.” I can feel myself getting hard again thinking about Shanice’s assertiveness. I know when Shanice feels me because her eyes get big, and she looks down at our laps. “You can’t be serious. You don’t feel like I violated you?” “S**t no! I’m yours to do with what you like. I’m your fated mate, and that gives you access to me. I’m glad you marked me. Look at how l tried to keep my distance all this time. I was so afraid that you would regret being with me or you would decide that my past was too much to deal with. If you hadn’t have planned tonight, there’s no telling how long it would have taken us to get to this point. You made it easy on us by marking me. I can’t wait to show this off to everyone!” I see color grace Shanice’s cheeks, and she tries to hide her smile. I pull her into me and gently kiss her lips. Shanice starts to rock her hips gently, and I close my eyes, loving how it feels to be inside her. I grab her hips, helping her move faster. A loud noise startles us, and I grab the blanket from the back of the couch, quickly throwing it over us. “Is something burning?” Damn, Red has the worst timing. “F**k, the lasagna!” Shanice slides off my lap and tries to fix herself under the blanket. “Ukl Dax!!” S**t, Pickles is here too. Shanice gets up quickly to rush into the kitchen, and I quickly put myself back in my pants. Red rounds the corner and stops, turning Pickles away from me but watching me over her shoulder with a smirk. “I see why the kitchen is on fire. Looks like you two were too busy to check on your food.” I throw the blanket off and stand up. “Don’t start, Red. What are you two doing here anyway?” Kehlani is trying her hardest to keep her laugh in. Kamila turns in her arms and reaches for me. I grab her and hold her close. “Jayden and I need to take a last-minute trip and I was hoping you would keep Kammi. Brooklyn is staying with Melanie, of course.” “Of course, my bestie can stay here. We will have a bunch of fun. Are you two leaving tonight?” “No, but we are leaving so early that I figured she should settle here tonight. I don’t want to interrupt anything, though.” “You aren’t interrupting, Alpha.” Kehlani turns to Shanice as she walks back into the living room. “That’s Kehlani to you.” “Uh, Kehlani. We would love to keep Kamila.” Kehlani puts an arm around Shanice, pulling her close. “That you so much. You two are a lifesaver. I will let you guys get to it, though I think you may need something else to eat.” Kehlani chuckles as she walks out of the room. “The bottom is all burnt. I’m sorry dinner was ruined.” “In light of why it was ruined, I’m very grateful. We should settle in with Kamila, and I can find us something to eat downstairs.” Shanice takes Kamila from me to get the oversized beanbag chair set up for our sleepover.
