Jewel's POV
The drive to Mortou's mate was insane! I thought we were going to a home, what happened was the opposite. We turned onto a dirt road that we have been driving for the last 20 minutes. I swear we are going to a spot so he can just kill us all. I mean seriously who lives this far out away from people? My family has lived off the grid for a while but this seems excessive.
"How much longer!" I hear myself whine.
"Just another five minutes to the gate and three minutes after," Mortou chuckled.
"Why is she sooo far out?" I groan slipping down further in the seat.
"She is not fond of people, and with the unruly bear cubs to raise this is the best bet." Mortou chuckled.

37 hours later... Ok, I am being dramatic more like seven minutes later, we arrived at a front gate to see a massive she-bear waiting just beyond it. Her coat shimmered in the sun, showing shades of browns and blacks. Her amber-colored eyes intensity watching us.
"Everyone out and stand in front of her." Mortou clapped his hands and jumped from the truck a huge grin spread across his face as he bounded toward the big female bear. He wrapped his arms around her as the bear huffed and chuffed at him. He stepped back with a grin, noticing we stood in a line as she walked up to the line starting with Mike, Lory, Logan, and Tiffany. She stopped at Tau her nose sniffing him, as she eyed him closely. He leaned forward and whispered something I missed into her ear. She stepped back. If a bear could look shocked she did. Walking forward she paused at my brother sniffing him closely, her head whipped to Mortou who only nodded.
Then she stepped to me. She smelled, and with her eyes level with mine looked deep into mine. There she stayed a moment. Then I watched the bear morph into a human. She was just as tall as a mom, at five foot something. Her bear was massive like Mortou's which shocked the hell outta me. She had long raven hair, her eyes just as amber as her bear, thick black lashes encircled them. She had a small dusting of freckles, high cheekbones, and eyes that lent to Asian ancestry. Her clothes unlike our wolves were intact. She was muscled and toned but not overly so. She was beautiful.
"You are to be the Southern wolf Queen?" Her voice tilted at an accent much like my Uncle Hawk.
"I am ma'am." I nodded. I kept my gaze steady waiting for her next words.
"You have more backbone than the other girls." She chuckled glancing down the line of us. "That is a good thing." Her voice went devoid of emotion. "The task you have is a hard one." She walked back down the line. I noticed she walked with bare feet.
"What generation bear are you?" She commanded at Mike.
"5th," came his quick reply.
"Interesting." She walked back to my brother, "what kind of wolf are you?" She raised a brow at him.
"Ancient Lyican and Southern wolf-like my sister." He answered.
"Why the hell aren't you taking the throne, your sister will have to sift through hell." She growled. She was small but her fire you could feel it was raw power from her aura. Like an alpha aura but slightly different. I understood at that moment why she was with Mortou. She too was as powerful as him.
"May I?" My brother's only reply was as he lifted his hand toward her.
She nodded, my brother placed a hand on her shoulder and you could see he was exchanging pictures as he did with mom. A few moments later, she looked back at him wide-eyed. "Tys it has been a long while." She murmured. "Mortou, help them to their rooms." She announced.
We left to follow Mortou as she, watched us go. Did she know your wolf? I asked my brother.
She is very old. He nodded.
************
We settled into our rooms. My brother making a point of putting his room between Tau and me. We showed and rested until we heard Mortou holler about dinner.
Each of us left our rooms, following Mortou to an adobe home built into a hillside. The outer part of it seemed small.
Inside was as big as a packhouse. You could see a collection of all sorts of things from places around the world. It was like a history museum. It was awesome. We walked through a set of old doors to a huge wooden table that had place settings for us and 5 more.
"Who else is coming?" I looked up at Mortou. "Linzi," nodding to his mate, "has contacted some of my sons and my one daughter to help you attain your throne." He ruffled the top of my head.
"Linzi," I repeated her name. Glancing at her to see her smile at me. I noticed that her eyes softened a moment before they went stoic.
"I am sitting here," grunted my brother, "My sister here." he finished with a growl. holding two seats near Mike.
I rolled my eyes heavenward knowing this was going to be the first squabble of them in this new place. "I am her guard," snapped Tau.
"I don't give two shits," my brother growled low. The rumble of his chest rocking the room a bit.
A hand slapped down hard on the table as all eyes turned to Linzi. "This crap will not fly in my house," her tone spoke of deadly things. Her eyes, flickering different shades of brown and gold. "You are her brother and he is her guard she sits between you both!" Her gaze was directed at my brother suddenly. "Tys you will knock that crap off!" Her voice mixed with an animalistic growl like that of Uncle Hawk's beast. To my further amazement, I watched my brother visibly flinch and settle without a word into the seat next to Mike.
I looked at Tau to see a faint smile grace his face as he settled down in the seat with me in the middle of them. Linzi clapped her hands and mounds of food appeared just like a Harry Potter scene. It was way cool!
"Eat, my picks for your security will be here soon. They coming down the road now." She paused. "Well, the last one will be minutes behind the rest." She shook her head and settled into the chair at the head of the table. Mortou I noticed sat at the head on the opposite side.
I found it odd they did not show affection. Perhaps they wanted to not overwhelm us. Or that likely they were just private people. I guessed it was the latter. Wolves are so much more different than bears in that respect.
