CHAPTER THREEMoira spent the whole night wide awake. ‘I cannot believe that he would risk our home,’ she muttered to herself over and over again as she tossed and turned. She shivered as she tried to picture life away from the castle. Although she had often bemoaned its lack of modern conveniences and the numbing cold in the winter, she loved the castle with all her heart and could not imagine living anywhere else. But in spite of her deep sorrow, her heart went out to her mother. ‘Poor mother. She has so much to bear,’ she pondered, as the dawn started to break over the castle battlements. Feeling that it was useless to try and sleep now that the morning had come, Moira rose from her bed and began to brush her long, dark hair. In the passageway outside, she could hear movement. Pull
