Rylan's POV
"You sure you don't wanna see me off~?"
"I'm positive." I rejected Lucas' oh so generous offer to drive him to Chet's place. He just wanted me to help him take up some of his final things. The past few nights he's been sleeping in my bed with me but he's finally moving out for good now.
"You're gonna miss me~" He sang.
I responded with a soft noise, not agreeing but not disagreeing. He probably knows I will. If not, I don't care.
"Ugh," he suddenly let out a groan and squeezed his eyes shut after looking at something on his phone, "look at this, Ry. You used to be a baby."
The couch dipped under my weight when I leaned over to see this picture. My nose immediately wrinkled when I saw the bowl cut. "Why did you let me go to school like that?"
"You should've known yourself. We were, like, 17."
"You were a horrible friend, still are."
He waved me off and started scrolling through some more. "I didn't realize how many pics I had of you on my instagram."
"Those are all old?"
"Mhm, most of them are from college but there's some from high school too."
"Delete them." I groaned, wanting to forget that period of my life forever. Why do teenagers these days never go through that awkward phase millennials did?
"Don't worry, I am." He snorted as if my input was completely absurd. "This is the only one I'm gonna keep."
When he turned his phone around for me to see again, I immediately went to grab it. He must've expected this reaction considering his laugh and how quickly he pulled his phone away. "That's the worst one." I complained.
"That's why I'm keeping it~ You didn't know about it for years, you'll be fine."
"It has 56 likes." I cried.
"It had 55 a few days ago." He mumbled, still deleting old photos. "Someone liked it but I didn't notice until this morning."
"Really? Isn't that photo, like, four years old?"
"Yeah. I post a lot too so they must've really been scrolling."
"Oh~" I sang. "Maybe someone has a little crush on you."
"Doubt it." He waved off with a flick of his wrist. "They liked a few others but I wasn't really in any of them."
Suddenly interested, I peeked over his shoulder again. "Let me see."
Lucas clicked into his activity and scrolled through to show what pictures were liked. "They're only super old ones."
My eyes only skimmed over the pics for a few seconds each but the pattern quickly became evident as I saw more. "..You should delete them."
"I am, but why?"
He might called me conceited- "Poor quality~ Those filters aren't helping you at all."
"f**k you. They look fine." His eyes squinted at some of them. "..Almost all of these are pictures of you anyways, I just happen to be in some too."
"No way." I mumbled, no longer interested in them since they were being deleted anyways.
He kept clicking on all the photos that were liked. "Actually.. all these pictures are of you. It's like they skipped over ones that didn't have you in it."
"Why were you even posting me that much?"
"I had no friends."
"That's fair."
Once he got back to the picture he wanted to save, he laughed to himself again. "I should delete my entire feed and just keep this one."
"I'll block you."
"I don't give a fuck." He snorted. "This is quality s**t, Ry."
I eyed the photo of 21 year old me passed out on the sidewalk with six different cups of ramen devoured to the side. "You got so wasted on your 21st and kept bitching for ramen until we finally went to the gas station."
"That was between us." If I grab it now, I can delete it-
Sensing my movements, he pulled his phone back and pocketed it. "You didn't just want any ramen though~ You looked ready to cry if Jason and I didn't get you six different kinds of spicy ramen."
"I only like spicy noodles, and I ate it all so it's fine."
"Fine? You threw up in the street and then s**t for two days straight."
"Sorry I s**t?"
Kyler's POV
"That kid's staring at you again."
"I know, just ignore it."
Demarcus shook his hands out and prepped himself to lift the barbell again. "How much longer?"
"2 more reps and then you're done."
"Fuck." He groaned, almost completely out of breath.
"You can do it, you did it last time." I encouraged while carefully examining that his posture was right. "Keep your back straight, don't slack. It's just two more then we're done. You've been doing perfectly until now, keep it going."
Once he got it in a firm grip, he slowly started to pull. His breathing was loud and his face was contorted but he made sure to keep his back straight. "Hold it...hold it...Good."
The weights hitting the floor were loud but that sound was familiar in the gym. "Good," I patted his back, "Keep it going while you're still out of breath."
"f**k off." He groaned but still bent down to grasp the bar.
Later on, when his session was over and he was taking a much need breather, I sat next to him on one of the benches inside. "We can probably up your weights in a couple weeks if you keep progressing like this."
Still completely out of breath, he silently held his fist out to me for a bump.
Demarcus wasn't just one of my clients, we've been friends for almost a year now. We somewhat knew each other back in college but didn't really click until he signed up as one of my clients.
"Jesus, I can't breathe."
I only laughed and handed him another water bottle when he downed his. "You did good today, I expected you to complain a lot more."
"I just wanted to be done." He wiped his mouth and tossed the empty bottles in his duffel bag. "Apparently staring makes me nervous."
My eyes briefly trailed over to Chet in the corner. He was only running today since we weren't scheduled but he never missed a day at the gym unless I forced him. "Sorry, I'll talk to him."
"I don't care." He waved off. "Just busting your balls~ He always stares but it's a lot more today." At my low hum, he eyed me suggestively. "You finally dating or what?"
"Dating?" I tilted my head back to him. "Where did you get that idea from?"
Demarcus gave me a doubtful look, as if trying to see if I was messing with him. "Really? Come on, there's no way you don't know he's head over heels for you."
I silently took a sip of my water and he laughed. "Yeah, there's no way you didn't know but I thought you might've been interested too. You're gay, right?"
"Not all gay guys like each other." I pointed out.
"I know." He rolled his eyes and brushed his twists back. "But you give him extra attention and you never care when he interrupts your own workouts. I remember asking you for a tip once and you ignored me after saying 'Do I look like your trainer right now?'."
"Pay me more and I'll give you tips off the clock."
He snorted. "I'm already paying an arm and a leg to come here, you're not getting s**t from me."
We talked a bit more, about anything and everything.
"How's your wife?"
"Good," he sighed with a nod, "pregnant but good."
My gaze showed surprise when I turned towards him. "Pregnant? Congrats, since when?"
"About a month ago, twins this time."
He already looked tired from the thought of two new borns with the addition of his two year old, "Good f*****g luck."
He gave me a tired smile and casted his eyes towards Chet. Chet wasn't staring this time, completely absorbed in his workout, but Demarcus still seemed interested. "You seem to need some luck too."
"This again?"
"Come on~ Just tell me a little, I'm curious and my wife doesn't get off work for another thirty minutes."
"There's nothing to tell." I chuckled, trying to seem as casual as possible. Chet's technically an employee here, even if he is only training right now and in a completely different department. "We're roommates."
"No way? I just thought you guys came and left at the same f*****g time for no reason." He gave me a deadpanned look. "Tell me something I don't already know."
Well, we are friends. "He kinda has a boyfriend."
His eyebrows shot up. "Kinda?"
"It's complicated."
"How so?"
"Ah," I let out a soft noise, not even knowing how to explain, "he likes this other guy a lot and they might as well be going out."
"..But?"
"There's no but."
He nudged my arm. "You f*****g liar, I'm not a snitch. Just tell me if you guys are f*****g or not."
I eyed him for a moment, debating whether to just tell him or not. He's not just one of my friends I see when I have to, we both reach out now and then to see each other outside of work.
Against my better judgment, knowing full well he'd tease me about it, I told him the gist of the situation between Chet, Rylan, and I.
"Ooh," he whistled lowly, "messy."
"Messy." I agreed.
He leaned back against the wall and probably tried to come up with some sort of solution that I didn't ask for. "So, you just gonna wait for something to happen or what?"
"I don't know, I wasn't really thinking when I told him I was interested too."
"Never confess during s*x, man."
"Listen-" I laughed, "I wasn't thinking. I was horny and he looked nice in my bed."
"Face your consequences." Almost on cue, Chet titled his head around until he found me. His ears perked and he gave a small wave that I returned. "A lot of people here knows he likes you, they're gonna be real mad when you break his heart~"
"I'm not gonna break his heart." I rolled my eyes. "We're not even dating."
"Yet."
"Maybe."
The subject was dropped after that and we only talked for a little more before he decided to shower and leave to get his wife.
____
Finishing the rest of my paperwork and hours wasn't hard, not when I only had to see Demarcus today. An hour after he'd left I was getting ready to leave myself.
In that one hour time span, my phone lit up every now and then with texts from Rylan.
Rylan: that's seriously not from one of stephen kings?
Me: That's clearly Freddy Krueger
Rylan: oh yeah, clearly
Me: Lmao I thought you liked movies?
Rylan: i like k-dramas
Me: Really? I tried watching those a few times but the acting is really bad.
Rylan: listen
Rylan: i don't watch it for the acting
Me: The hot sexy men?
Rylan: ofc
With my bag packed up, I was already saying bye to some of my coworkers and some regulars as I passed by. I would've already headed for the parking lot if Chet weren't here still.
"Hey." I knocked on the treadmill to get his attention.
Noticing I was there, he slid his headphones off and set the machine on cool down. "What's up?"
"I'm heading home soon, you coming or do you wanna stay?"
"Um," his eyes filtered towards the time he's ran so far, "I'll stay a little longer."
"You sure? I can pick you up later if so."
"It's okay." He declined breathily. "I'll just uber, I needed to talk to my manager anyways."
"Okay, just text me if you do." He nodded, "And don't workout too much, you've done really good today so don't push yourself."
His tail started wagging from the praise as he gave a quick nod.
We only shared a few more words before he was turning his speed up and I was heading out of the doors. The receptionist smiled warmly at me and called for me to have a good day and I returned the gesture before leaving.
It wasn't until I made it to my car that I noticed I had a few new texts from Rylan.
Rylan: hey don't hate me
Rylan: but can you maybe, like if you're not busy or anything
Rylan: give me a ride
Rylan: i'll totally pay you, i promise. you're at work rn, right? so like, maybe when you're done
I knew for a fact that he had a car but I didn't bother questioning him.
Me: Yeah, I just got off work. Where are you?
Rylan: omg yay
Rylan: don't get mad again, but i honestly don't know /:
Me: How don't you know where you are?
Rylan: /: can i call you?
Instead of responding, I just called him myself and started my car. "Hey~" Rylan picked up and laughed awkwardly. "So here's the thing- I know what area I'm in but don't know where exactly."
"Um?" I laughed in confusion. "Did something happen to your car?"
"No, no. Just- y'know." He laughed awkwardly again and then it was just us both laughing awkwardly. "I was feeling really productive today for some reason, it's my day off, and I thought taking a hike could possibly be fun. Turns out, it's not. Can you believe it?"
"Good to know, I won't be taking any hikes anytime soon." I teased as I started pulling out of my parking spot.
"Yeah, yeah. Good thing I tried it for both of us, right? Um- So, I went to Mountain Ridge park because I saw this cute little trail, I wasn't trying to do anything hard, y'know? But then I got here and got lost. So naturally, I walked around until I found it but then it got really dark out of nowhere which was super weird-"
I cut off his awkward rambling with a soft laugh. "Just send me your location."
"I can do that?"
"Yeah, just.." After telling him exactly how to
send it, he let out an astonished little noise.
"This is humiliating. My internet wasn't working since I went over my data and I couldn't look up where I was. I can just uber now that I know."
"It's okay." I insisted, a little amused over how worked up he seemed. "I'll just get you."
He was quiet for a moment before I heard him groan. "I just found the f*****g trail, this is so embarrassing."
"At least you know how to get towards a street now. Thought I might have to come and look for you~"
He groaned again, probably imagining me actually looking for him. "I would rather freeze out here than need a grown man have to look for me, another grown man."
The park he was at was pretty close so it only took a short 10 minute ride until I was pulling into the empty parking lot. It was cold and pretty dark out, most people were already at home right now.
Rylan got into my passenger seat pretty passively, it was a little cute to see. "Hey.." He mumbled, surely embarrassed. "Sorry about this."
"It's fine." I waved off. "I don't mind. Why were you hiking at night though?"
"I woke up, like, two hours ago and you and Chet both texted me that you were going to the gym. Since it was my day off I thought I might try and exercise for once but.. yeah." He trailed off while scratching his cheek. "I forgot I went over my data though~ I even had to use green text bubbles."
As we talked a little more, I once again had to remind myself that he wasn't Chet's age. Something about him just reminded me of how childlike Chet could be sometimes so they seemed closer in age compared to us.
He talked with his hands, emphasizing anything and everything with little gestures. He made a lot of different expressions too, ranging from mock devastation to complete delight.
It almost gave me whiplash how he was just complaining about his hike with a deep frown and then immediately grinning when he complimented how warm the car was.
Throughout the car ride, he kept glancing at me every few seconds, as if hesitating to say something. Finally, "..Did you eat?"
I already have this weeks dinners prepped and in the fridge- Still, "Nah, not yet."
"Let me buy you something, I feel really bad."
"It's okay, I really don't mind." I attempted to wave off but he seemed insistent. And in the back of my head, ask again.
Thankfully, he did. "We can just pretend this whole hike thing never happened and we're together because I asked you out to dinner."
____
He feels short.
He's not, but with my arm resting on his head, it felt like it. Rylan batted my arm off the first time I did it but only squinted at the menu in concentration when I did it the second.
His hair's not as soft as I expected, probably from the perm.
After having him order for both of us, we took our table number and decided to sit at one of the picnic benches outside. When he sat down across from me, he seemed to suddenly think of something. "Um, you're not a vegetarian are you?"
He almost looked nervous to hear my answer, "No, I'm not."
His face showed relief. "Oh good- Well, not good. Nothings wrong with being vegetarian but I probably should've asked before I ordered."
Being around Rylan was a lot more relaxing than I thought it'd be. He's usually only around when Chet is so I was wondering if it would be a lot different without him here.
He seems like a people person, so I probably should've expected him to carry the conversation well.
"What happened to your arm?" I asked after noticing the small cut on his forearm.
"Hm?" He looked down, as if not knowing about it himself. "Oh~ This tree f*****g scratched me for no reason." For no reason?
He talks like Chet too.
"It's your guys' fault." He complained. "You motivated me to be active for once and this happens."
"Maybe try a gym next time?" I suggested with a half smile.
"Sure, what days do you work?"
I stared at him for a moment and watched him tilt his head as he waited. "..I take Monday's and Tuesday's off."
"Got it, come in on Monday's and Tuesday's."
His explanation as to why he would only come in on my days off had me laughing. "Nobody cares what you look like at the gym."
"I care." He insisted. "It takes time to look like this, I can't ruin my image in front of people I like that easily."
"You might wanna exercise at home then~" I suggested. "Chet basically lives there."
"Ah," he let out a soft noise, "I forgot Chet started working there too. There's no way I can go now, avoiding two people is hard."
He's either really bold or just doesn't give a f**k.
Maybe both.
Later on, after our food was basically finished, I eyed him. I didn't notice at first but after he kept looking at his order, "Your order was wrong, right?"
"Um," he seemed to think if he should tell me or not, "Yeah, I don't really care though."
He clearly didn't like his food, considering how he ate the bare minimum. "Do you want something else?"
"Nah," he declined, "It was still good."
So he's that type of person.
Even as we were getting ready to leave, he tried setting a tip down on the table that I handed back to him. "I'll tip." I told him as I set down a five dollar bill.
"No." He complained. "This is supposed to be me paying you back."
"You paid for the meal, tipping isn't much."
Before we could argue about it, I grabbed his wrist and started pulling him towards the gate that lead to the parking lot.
His eyes trailed down to my hand around his wrist before he made a thoughtful noise and followed me obediently. "You just need a ride home? Nowhere else?"
He tilted his head towards me after we were both in my car. "Why? Are you offering to be my personal uber?"
Letting out puff of amusement, "If you need it."
He ran a hand through his hair with a soft laugh. "Not today, maybe next time though. Who knows when I might try hiking again."
On the way to his apartment, he gave me directions that I didn't need. But it was nice listening to his voice, so I didn't say anything.
Conversation flowed easily and even when there was silence, the music in the background was enough to make it not uncomfortable.
Should I say something?
It's only been a day since I pretty much told Chet I was interested in him. Nothings been brought up since then but he has been acting clingier. Has he told Rylan and he's just pretending not to know?
As I thought about it more, I doubted it. Rylan seemed like the type to talk about it without any hesitancy. That's probably a good sign though.
I'm not sure you could call our actions, talks, or texts flirtatious but it was something close. There were always subtle hints of 'I'm attracted to you' etched in our words somewhere.
But if I were to bring it up, it's no longer subtle. It would now be displayed openly on the table for the three of us to see.
Does he see it the same? I silently wondered if he saw it as the three of us and not just them. Maybe.
Hopefully.
Rylan glanced at me and offered a smile. There was no reason for it, but he smiled.
Probably.
When I finally pulled into his apartment complex, he grabbed his backpack from the car floor and unbuckled his seatbelt. "Thanks for the ride, I really appreciate it. If you ever go hiking and don't have internet, I got you~"
It had my lips twitching up, "Thanks."
He hesitated in opening the door, giving me a lingering glance as he decided if he should say something or not. "Chet and I have a date next week.. you should come."
There were a number of things I could've said to that. Yes, why, sure, I'll talk to Chet, are you sure, sounds fun, anything would've been fine. Instead, "Chet and I are probably gonna get off together later tonight, you should come."
His stare was heavy.
Rylan looked at his hand that was just about to open the door before he let it fall to his lap. He was silent as he leaned back into the passenger seat and stared at me.
Finally, "Okay."
"Okay."
He glanced towards the door again but didn't make a move to open it. "So you like him." It wasn't worded as a question so I could only agree.
"Yeah."
"And he clearly likes you."
"Yeah."
He let out a thoughtful noise. "And you guys have been f*****g around?"
"Yeah."
A low hum, "That's messy. Does he know you were gonna tell me?"
"I wasn't gonna tell you so no."
"Why not?" His gaze dragged up to me again. "You were just gonna wait until I asked him out to stop f*****g him?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"Would you have actually stopped if I asked him out? Or would you have kept f*****g him without me knowing?"
His words seemed harsh but he seemed honestly curious more than anything. "I would've stopped."
"It's kinda annoying that you guys have been f*****g for probably weeks without me knowing, even though we saw each other a lot, but whatever."
He probably didn't care before, before him and Chet started steadily seeing each other. He probably didn't care when Chet just seemed like a short little fling that he didn't know would last or not.
Or maybe he was annoyed from my 'Don't worry, I know he likes you a lot' and then having me mess around with him only a few days after.
"It's whatever, I don't care." He genuinely brushed off and opened the car door. "You both kinda suck for not telling me since I made it pretty f*****g obvious I liked you both." He got out and leaned down to see me. "Anyways, I still like you so text me."
I could only stare at him for a few seconds, not really sure what to say in this type of situation. He seemed annoyed but not annoyed at the same time. "Okay."
He still didn't leave, only stared at me blankly. "Now that you know, I'm gonna be pissed off if you f**k him behind my back."
"Okay." I immediately agreed.
He still didn't seem satisfied. "You gonna tell Chet this too?"
Shit, what does he want me to say? "Yes?" I guessed.
"Alright, try not to get your d**k wet until we all talk." He leaned back up. "See you." The door clicked shut before he threw me a wave over his shoulder.
Even when he was inside the building, I sat in the parking lot for a few minutes.
He's a lot more intimidating then I thought he could be.
Still, I think that went well?
_____
Walking into my apartment, I had to calm myself down when I saw Lucas casually lounging on the couch. He lives here too, he lives here too, stop forgetting every time you see him.
"Hey." He greeted with a nod. "Why do you guys only have healthy s**t stocked? You literally have an entire head of cauliflower. There's no way you enjoy eating that."
"Uh, sorry? I'll buy other stuff when I go shopping."
"Can I just buy our groceries?"
I eyed him. "..We can go together."
He eyed me right back. "You're gay, right?"
I walked past him with a roll of my eyes. "Not interested."
"That's fair. Oh- hey." He suddenly titled his head back to see me. "Chet's been looking for you. He went in your room once and took a hoodie when he saw you weren't there."
This had me pausing. Chet doesn't usually go in my room if I'm not home. Well- unless he doesn't and I just don't know.
"Is he still there?"
"Nah, he's in his room jerking off."
I turned towards Lucas and raised my eyebrows. "j*********f?"
"Yeah, that's why I'm in here. I could hear him in my room since our beds are on the same wall."
Instead of questioning Lucas about it more, I just went to go see for myself. I'm assuming Chet jerks off regularly, I'm not sure since I've never heard him, so for Lucas to hear him was odd.
When I neared his door, all I could think was- Oh, yes. He is definitely j*********f.
He's probably in heat, it's about that time.
It was still odd though. Chet knows when his heats are gonna come and tells me at least a day in advance.
When I knocked on his door, I could hear his low whimpers grow silent. "Chet?"
Lucas gaped at me from the couch. "You're bold." He mouthed.
Ignoring Lucas, I cracked the door open when Chet called back a soft, "What?" I made sure to give him time to cover his d**k so when I stepped in, there was a pillow in his lap.
Ah, that's the hoodie Lucas said he took.
"You're in heat?" No f*****g s**t-
He silently bobbed his head and I immediately felt bad for him. He's shyly told me before, when we first became roommates, that his heats could get a little bad sometimes so they lasted longer than most hybrids' did.
He apologized in advance, telling me he could go to a motel if I ever bothered him. Of course I refused and told him it was obviously okay, he can't control it.
This looked like one of those bad ones. His cheeks were flushed a permanent pink and his hair was sticking to his forehead with sweat. "What?" He shifted around uncomfortably when he noticed me staring.
"Lucas said you were looking for me." I started, saying the first thing that came to mind because why the f**k did I come in here. "Did you want help?"
His hands absentmindedly toyed with the pillow. "..Help? Aren't you busy?"
"With what?"
"You weren't home.." He trailed off. "You said you were going home."
"Oh." I didn't even think about that. "Rylan asked me for a ride since he got lost. I gave him a ride home."
His ears perked when he heard Rylan's name before resuming to their flattened position. "Oh." He mumbled before glancing at me bashfully. "Then.. if it's okay, you can help."
There's two things I could do in this situation.
1 - Help him, explain to Rylan what happened and have to possibly have him be mad at me.
Or
2- Call Rylan, both of us help him, and nobody's mad.
Option two was looking a lot more appealing than the first. Still, that meant I'd have to somehow explain the situation to Chet.
