Rylan's POV
As I shimmied into my jeans, Kyler watched me lazily from his place on the bed. Chet was knocked out beside him, still completely naked but with a blanket draped over him.
I eyed him for a moment. "It's Thursday, you don't have work?"
"Later." He waved off. "I'm closing."
"Ah~ I'm opening." After throwing a shirt that didn't belong to me on, I deemed myself ready enough to at least walk out of their apartment building, into mine, and change into my work clothes. "He's fine by himself, right?"
"Yeah, he usually handles his heats himself."
"That's good," I mumbled while attempting to fix my hair in Chet's mirror, "my ass is sore."
"My d**k might chafe."
"Hybrid's f**k a lot more than I thought they would, even in heat."
He hummed in agreement and checked his phone. "Good thing there's two of us."
"Yeah." After giving myself one last once over, I finally accepted that I'm gonna have to walk out of here looking like I was just f****d into the new year. "How bad do I look right now?"
"Bad?" His eyes flicked over to me, once I presented myself, and gave me a casual once over. "You look hot but you also look like you just had a threesome."
I'll take that. "Thanks."
He laughed unsurely. "Yeah?"
I picked at the shirt I was wearing while getting ready to leave. "Is this yours or Chet's? Mine has c*m on it."
"Uh-" he looked at it, "mine but Chet was wearing it."
I only hummed in response and slid my shoes on. "I'll give it back later."
"Alright."
"See you."
Just after I closed the bedroom door, I stopped with my hand still on the knob. This feels kinda one night standish, huh? I mean, it kind of is but..
Cracking the door open again, I saw him tilt his head towards me in question. "You want, like, a kiss or something?"
His lips twitched up and he was already getting up. "Sure."
When Kyler was close enough, he reached out and slid both hands around my neck so he was cupping my nape. Seeing him have to bend down had my mind going almost blank.
Fuck- big guys are so cute.
With my hands loosely gripping his forearms, I couldn't help but squeeze. Nice.
It was a little more than a kiss but eventually we were pulling away. My neck felt cold without his touch and it took everything in me not to call out of work, push him down, and sit on his face.
Getting my ass eaten by some hottie doesn't pay the bills though, so off to work I go.
"See you." I opened the door again and slipped out before I could think about actually doing it.
He watched me go, more like watched my ass go, while leaning against the doorway. "Later."
_____
After I was changed and headed towards work, I thought about the differences between Kyler and Chet.
Chet was the guy you brought home to your mom and she immediately liked him. He's going to school and now had a stable job, there wasn't much else you could want.
And while Kyler has done/is doing those things as well, I'm not sure I could bring him home and have my mom like him right away.
Right now, he seemed like some f**k buddy my friend kept telling me not to get involved with because it would only be messy.
And to be fair, he almost was. The amount of times Lucas has told me to give up because Kyler was out of my league was uncountable. Someone out of my league? I don't think so.
I was really interested in Kyler, but I knew Chet a lot more so it was easy to place them on different pedestals.
When Kyler first comes to mind, I think about f*****g him. When I think of Chet, I think about sending him stupid little pictures just because I know it would make him smile.
But, we're getting there. Maybe I'll send Kyler a picture of some action figure I know has nothing to do with Stephen King just to piss him off.
"You're late." My manager immediately said after I walked in.
"I'm two minutes late."
"You're still late."
I rolled my eyes and went to set my stuff down in the back. When I came back out and clocked in, Benny was sitting at the bar. As one of the security guards, he had nothing to do until we officially opened.
I hardly ever opened but when I did, we would talk while I prepped everything behind the counter. "What's up?" He greeted with a large grin. "We haven't had a shift together in a while."
"I know~ I miss you."
"Opening people are so boring, man." He complained, making me laugh. "I should have never taken closing for granted. Nobody starts coming in until 4 o'clock so I just stand outside and freeze my balls off for no reason."
"Try being a bartender, it's warmer in here."
He waved his hand around, as if he already thought of this. "They only hire hot people as bartenders. I guess people don't like dad bods anymore."
"People like dad bods." I reassured him with a laugh. "Maybe if you stopped trying to hook up with people half your age-"
"Half my age?" He looked offended. "Who do you take me for? That was one time and she said she was in college."
"College is still a little young for you." I pointed out.
His devastated expression only grew worse. "I'm only 32."
"So? Kids fresh out of high school are in college."
"You're making me feel like I'm a pedo."
"Sorry, sorry." I wiped down the counter before patting his wrist. "I'll send any cougars I see your way. Would that make you feel better?"
"Of course cougars f*****g flirt with you." He batted my hand away with a sniff. "I can't stand pretty people."
As I made sure our ice was stocked and all the scoops were in place, he went on to rant about something I barely listening to. "Oh-" he suddenly turned his chair towards me, "the other night, did you know that guy you were with outside?"
I quickly wracked my brain to think of who he was talking about. "Paul? The old guy?"
"No, he was pretty tall and looked like he was a hybrid. Blonde, I think."
Chet. "Oh yeah, we're friends. Why?"
"That's good." He seemed to relax. "He was hanging outside for a while so I wasn't sure if he was looking to bother you or not."
"Really? How long?" I asked as I rinsed some shot glasses.
"Maybe an hour?" He guessed. "He wasn't doing anything wrong so we couldn't ask him to leave or ask what he was doing."
'I promise I wasn't stalking you.'
"We had plans that night so he was just waiting for me."
'..was walking home since I don't have a car right now but then I saw you.'
"If you see him again, don't worry about it." I told him.
"Oh~ Plans, you say? You find yourself another boyfriend?"
I raised an amused eyebrow at his tone. "What do you mean 'another'?"
"I still miss Jacob, bring him back."
"Jacob can suck my d**k, I never wanna see him again."
"Alright," he held his hands up in defense, "black list it is."
______
I'm tired, my ass is sore, and all I wanna do is sleep.
I couldn't express the pure joy I felt when I saw my closing shift coworkers gradually trickle in. They looked just as tired as I felt but unlike them, I got to go home.
I preferred closing because there were better tips and I liked the people more, but I liked getting off at a reasonable time instead of 4am.
"You leaving?" Benny asked when I came outside dressed in a hoodie now. "Lucky bastard."
"No cougars tonight, but I'll try again tomorrow."
He rolled his eyes and shooed me away. "Go home, your friend's been waiting for you."
This had me pausing, "What?"
"What?"
"My friend?"
He looked just as confused as I felt. "The blonde hybrid, don't you guys have plans tonight?" He gestured towards the end of the building where I saw Chet leaning against the wall by himself. "...Or not?" Benny eyed me cautiously. "Do I need to go talk to him?"
"No," I immediately denied, "I just thought we were meeting somewhere else."
He didn't seem that convinced but nodded nonetheless. "Alright, let me know if you need anything. Get home safe."
"You too." I mumbled, already turning on my heel so I could question Chet about why he was at my workplace again without telling me.
He didn't notice me approaching, he also didn't register me right in front of him. His head was tipped down and his eyes were closed so when I tapped his arm, he startled.
When he looked up, the first thing I noticed was how flushed his face was. "Hey," I started, "what are you doing here?"
"Huh?" Chet looked around slowly, as if not knowing where he was himself. "I don't..." I waited for him to answer but he only trailed off silently. "Where's Kyler?"
"Kyler?" I asked confused. "He's at work, didn't he tell you?"
He kept looking around, as if Kyler would magically show up. Finally, he looked down and let his eyes focus on me. "I didn't know where you were."
Judging from his flushed appearance and slow responses, I'm guessing he's still in heat. Why would he leave when he's like this? Kyler said he would be fine, it's not like he's a kid either. He knows how to deal with his heats. "Why are you here though? I had work so I couldn't stay the night again."
"You weren't in our apartment when I woke up, so I didn't know where you were."
"Well-" he's in heat, he's in heat, he's in heat, "text me next time, okay? I'll tell you exactly where I'm at without you needing to come to me. I thought Kyler would've told you I had to leave, so I'm sorry for not telling you myself."
He glanced towards the entrance of the club. "You had work? You were working?"
"Yeah, I just got off."
"Oh." He looked at me again. "It's really hot."
My fingers were starting to turn stiff from how cold it was but he looked like he was sweating. "You should go home, your heat still isn't over. I can drop you off."
When he started looking around again, I could only wait silently until his eyes focused on my car. "Okay."
Now that we were in the car, and besides the strange staring he did, he seemed completely normal. Sure, it was a little obvious that he was in heat but it wasn't as bad as yesterday. Still, something was weird with him and I still felt put off that his first instinct was to come to my workplace when he couldn't find me.
"When do your heats usually end?"
"Um, usually a couple days. So maybe tomorrow."
I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. "I don't think I can stay again tonight. Are you gonna be okay?"
"It's okay, I can do it myself." Finger himself, he meant.
"Kyler should be getting off work in a couple hours too so then he can help you."
He nodded silently and dropped the subject altogether. After that, it was like any other day. He asked how my day was, what I ate, how my family was, anything and everything that popped into his head. Just like normal.
I didn't feel right just dropping him off at the entrance so I parked and went to walk him to his door instead. "Thanks for driving me, and sorry." He suddenly apologized quietly when we were in the elevator. "I don't know why I did that.."
I was silently wondering, before this, if I had to tell him not to come to my job like that again but he genuinely seemed regretful so I kept quiet.
I wasn't sure if being in heat could affect hybrids' actions to this degree but since it seemed completely out of the ordinary for him, I'm assuming they could.
He usually always asks me before he does anything. Even when he calls, he'll always text me first to see if it's okay. "It's okay." I waved off, trying to seem as casual as possible since he looked so guilty. His ears are down and even his tail is tucked against his thigh.
When his door was open and he was ready to go inside, "Text me if you need anything, okay?" He nodded silently. "Your heat better be over by our date." I used an overly stern tone just to show him I was teasing. He looks so sad-
His ears perked up a bit and his nod was a little faster. "Good. Make sure to eat and drinks lots of water too."
"I will." He promised, slowly starting to look a bit happier.
"Good, now give me a kiss before I go."
His tail started wagging.
Chet's POV
Another day later, my heat was over as expected and because of this, I needed to start going to my classes again.
As soon as I saw him, my ears perked up and I didn't hesitate to drape myself over his back. "Harrison~" My tail was slapping the desk behind me but I couldn't bring myself to care, not when I got to see him after almost three days.
He hunched over in his seat, completely folded from my weight on him but still managed to wheeze out a greeting. "Hi, Chet."
After setting my bag on the table, I dropped myself in the seat next to him. "I missed you~"
Harrison reached out and patted my head. "I missed you too. Was your heat okay? You got Kyler and.." He trailed off, probably forgetting Rylan's name.
Just thinking about Rylan had my ears flattening. "Yeah," I mumbled, "They helped me on my first day."
Sensing my shift in attitude, his head tilted. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
What's not wrong, I mentally sulked. "Rylan thinks I'm a total creep."
"Creep?" His ears perked up. "Why?" My lips pursed for a moment before I mumbled what happened quietly. "Huh? I can't hear you."
With my ears completely flat, "I kinda went to his workplace without asking.. again."
"Oh," he blinked, "that's not creepy. Caesar and Morgan visit me at work all the time."
"It's different." I mumbled, not really wanting to tell him everything. Because he'd probably scold me for standing outside for almost two hours during my heat. "He seemed a little mad."
"Really?" He didn't seem to understand as his eyebrows furrowed, "I'd be happy if someone I liked surprised me."
I can't remember clearly, but maybe that's what I was thinking in the moment, I don't know. I remember waking up and searching for them before I realized I was alone. There were no texts on my phone besides my mom's so I didn't even think before I grabbed my jacket and started walking towards Rylan's club.
It felt like seconds, but I waited outside for him for almost two hours. At some point, my eyes fell closed, not being able to handle how dizzy and hot I felt.
Did I do something wrong? What if he's not here? Should I go to his house? Is he mad at me? Why was I alone? Maybe he doesn't like me anymore. Did he just want s*x? Where's Kyler?
Unlike Rylan, I knew Kyler's work schedule. Yet, in that moment I couldn't think clearly. If I hadn't been so worried about them maybe abandoning me, possibly even for each other, I would've known Kyler was at work.
There was a chance Rylan wasn't at work at all but I still waited out in the cold, even if it felt like I was burning.
When Rylan tapped on my arm, I felt confused and because of this, my first instinct was to look for Kyler.
I probably seemed crazy to him.
I'm not sure why I did it myself. Heats don't work like that, so there was no proper excuse for my actions. When he was taking me home, it wasn't until then that I realized how creepy it was. Apologizing didn't seem like enough, especially since he seemed a little put off.
He's been texting me normally since then, even calling, but what if he doesn't like me anymore?
Later that night, when Kyler finally came home from work, I stayed in my room by myself. He checked on me a couple times and asked if I needed help but I refused each time.
I think I really creeped Rylan out.
During our entire lecture, I didn't feel like I was there.
Should I tell mom? As I thought about this, I eventually decided not to. She might cry again like last time.
