KATLYN My mother closed the bedroom door and pulled me with her to the bed. She sat me down, my hand between hers as she rubbed it, trying to calm me down as if I am on the verge of losing it. I wasn’t. I took a few deep breaths, noticed the few white hair in her loose side curls that had become more visible now. I sighed, combing my fingers through my hair in an agitated move. She said, “Theo called us and said something that pushed your father in a protective mode. You know your father, how he is with you… But, I guess, what Theo was hinting at wasn’t entirely wrong.” I arched a brow at my mother. She pointed at my shoulder where the neck of the tshirt had slipped down, revealing a big pink bruise on my collarbone. Not hiding the fact what it was and how could it have happened. “Oh.”
