Chapter 5 It was déjà vu for Charam as he entered the smoky mist of the Wildlands. Even by the murky light of day, it was not a place he relished being. There was movement everywhere—in the clouds above, in the shadows that seemed themselves to be alive and also in the mist that swirled and eddied just above the scorched dirt. Something slithered across one of his feet, and when he kicked it off, he saw it was a reptilian creature with hundreds of tiny legs and a row of minute horns running along the length of its back.
