Dying mate...

1773 Words
~Trace Marez~ I wanted to remove Storm's head right off from his body, when Jared stopped me, by holding my raised hand. "Please don't do it my king, for your mother's sake," Jared pleaded and I growled, as I brought down my hand and walked past Storm, making sure I brushed my shoulder with his. "Is that all you can do?" Storm's voice called from behind. I turned to look at him briefly like an angry lion ready to pounce on its prey and turned to Jared after which I stormed out to avoid repeating history. As I walked out of where he was standing with Jared, I started sniffing hard to see if could perceive the pheromones of my mate again, but it seemed I had lost it for good again, and this time around I felt frustrated and betrayed by the moon goddess. I walked to my car, entered and started driving, hoping to catch up with the car my mate was in. I kept driving without a destination and I felt like I was going crazy. After driving for about two hours without any result, Cory got tired and wanted to come out and take over my body so he would run for a while. I stopped the car abruptly at the center of the road. “Please Cory, allow me to properly park my car so I can run into a nearby forest and allow you take over,” I pleaded with my wolf and he grunted. I parked my car at the side of the road and alighted, to see if there was anyone around, or if it was a place I could allow Cory take over. I looked around and saw that I was in the boundary between my kingdom and the werewolves' kingdom. Beside me was the portion of land owned by my forefathers, but because the land was fruitful, the werewolves wanted it and it caused countless of wars over the centuries, thereby making them our archenemies. According to my late father, the last war was settled about a hundred and sixty years ago, by the moon goddess who said the land should be dedicated to her and could be used to make sacrifices to her. The land that was already covered with green grasses and huge trees, was big and spacious, enough for me to run around in my Cory's form, without being seen by outsiders. I ran into the woods, or should I say forest? Removed my clothes, neatly folded and placed them on the ground, where I can easily locate them when I return, after which Cory took over, running and roaring simultaneously. He came into an abrupt stop when he started perceiving something. 'What is it Cory?' I asked from the back of my mind. 'Blood, I can perceive blood and I can perceive wolfsbane,” he replied, as he started walking and sniffing around. “Is it possible that someone would-” I was trying to ask him a question when he cuts in. “Mate...” he growled. “Mate? Our mate?” I questioned. “Our mate is in danger,” he howled and started running towards where the smell was coming from. When he got to where she is, I saw a beautiful werewolf girl, lying semi dead on the ground. Cory instinctively carried her and started running. “Cory, please let me take over so I can take her to the hospital,” I begged him. “She attempted suicide and she reeks of Storm,” he complained angrily. Hold on, was Storm sleeping with my mate? Was that why he stopped me from going to her? I'm going to make sure I kill him. I will destroy him without thinking about mother. “I agree with that,” Cory said about my thought. “Can I take over now- Please?” I pressed. “Fine,” he reluctantly agreed and carefully placed her on the ground. I quickly morphed back, totally naked, I could no longer remember where I kept my clothes when I removed them, neither was I interested in looking for them. As I carried my mate up, I saw a mark on her neck. She has been marked by another, probably Storm? As I saw the mark, I was so shocked that I almost allowed her fall off my hold. 'Trace, take her to a hospital, she's dying,” Cory roared in my head. “Hospital or Jared's mother's place? She took wolfsbane so the human doctors might not know what to do, besides Jared's mother has helped people in a worst state,” I argued with him. Jared's mother's family were the family bestowed with the healing power of the lycanhood from the beginning of time and they passed it from generation to generation. Either Jared's elder sister or his mate were the next in line to inherit the power as it was only passed down to women from the family. “Fine! Whatever, just take her to where we won't lose her,” Cory replied like I wasn't doing anything about her predicament. “Jared where are you?” I mind linked him. “I have been looking everywhere for you, my king, where are you,” he answered hastily. “Meet me with decent clothes at your mother's house at once,” I ordered him. “Yes, my king,” Came his response. I carried my dying mate and ran to my car, without thinking about my naked status, she's the most important thing in the world to me right now and I will do anything to fight for her life. “Sure,” Cory responded in my head. “Together, we shall protect our mates.” 'Where are you ma, hope you're in the house?' I mind linked Jared's mom, who is the most trust worthy healer I could think of at that moment. ”I'm home, hope there is no problem, my king?” she asked with a voice laced with concern. “Wait for me, I'm coming over now, don't go anywhere,” I ordered her. “Yes my king, I will go nowhere,”she replied and I closed the link. I broke all traffic rules on my way to Jared's mother's house, even when the police tried to stop me, I wasn't listening to them, as going to Jared's mom was my only hope of bringing my mate back to life. When I got there, Jared was already waiting outside for me. He opened the back seat she was placed on and carried her to his mother after giving me something to wear. I quickly wore what he gave me and rushed inside to see his mom already working on my mate. "My king," she bowed in reference. "Mom, please save her, I can't lose her, she can't die now," I pleaded with panic. "I'm working on her, I want to get rid of the wolfsbane in her system, but it's a fifty percent chance of survival case, I'm sorry," she said without raising her head to look at me. “But you said she's good,” Cory howled. “Even orthodox doctors say stuffs like this,” I frowned at him. “Not in this kind of situation,” he argued. I wasn't ready to argue with Cory, neither was I in the mood of saying anything to anyone. The most important thing to me at the moment is to see my mate's eyes open and her mouth speak. I squatted and picked up my mate's hand, it was semi-cold. She was getting cold, and I couldn't do anything about it. Why on Earth did she decide to take her own life? I wondered, feeling bad for her. "She will be fine king Trace," Jared patted my back twice and I heaved an involuntary sigh of relief. "Will she be fine?" I asked Jared's mom and she raised her head to look at me and bowed again, without saying a word. I wanted to shout at her, push her or even hit her for not saying anything to me, but I couldn't bring myself to do it, since she's my mother as well. "I'm sorry my king," She finally said, as she placed her hand on my shoulder. "She doesn't want to live, her zeal is gone and.. her soul is very stubborn.” "What can I do mother, I can't lose her no," I grabbed her by her hand. The smell of my mate's pheromones was gradually fading away and she was growing paler with every fleeting single second. "She will come around, if only she has a reason to live," Jared's mother said and got up from the wooden stool she was sitting on. I gradually let go of her hand and she walked away. "What should I tell you? What can I tell you my precious mate?" I gripped he hand and started crying. "Please come back to me, come back to us," I cried harder. “I can feel her wolf,” Cory suddenly said, “her name is River and she said she- I can't hear her anymore, but I can still feel her, the wolfsbane was very potent.” “I guess there is something else I've not tried, please excuse me my king," Jared's mother suddenly said from behind me and I got up and left the both of them. "Red, what do you think? I'm scared to my bones," I said as soon as I met Jared outside. "Me too, but I'm positive that she won't die, the moon goddess has her own plans," he said, trying to console me. "Oh my God, Red? I can't perceive her pheromones anymore," I moaned with a shaky tone. "Meaning?" He asked with concern. "I guess... I guess she's..." I couldn't bring myself to say the word. "Let's go inside." "If mom asked you to go outside, then she should be the one to tell you to come in." "I can no longer feel her, Cory can't feel her wolf either." I complained, feeling my heart shattering. What did I do to the moon goddess to deserve such punishment? First of all, I have stayed for so many years without meeting my mate, I finally met her, she's already marked by another and now I'm losing her. “Dear moon goddess, please give me a chance to at least talk with her, I have so many questions to ask her. Just make her live please,” I prayed solemnly to the Moon goddess, hoping she would hear me.
