4 HAYES I saw the flashing lights in the distance. Sparks had mountains all around, but the open space was vast, and it was easy to see for miles. It was the same in Albuquerque where I’d grown up, but there was something more… vast… in Montana. It was easy to pick up on weather–or trouble–well in advance.
