11 FORD “I want all the equipment checked and packed for the op this weekend,” I told Hayes. We were in the war room—formerly Gram’s sewing room, which served as our temporary command center. We met every morning at 0800 hours. One thing I’d learned in the military was regimen, and—except for my mountain man beard—I hadn’t dropped it when I came home.
