RUBY JUNE. Today, Charles had been especially considerate, promising not to overwork me. I was tidying up files and organizing Charles’s schedule at my desk when a delivery man called my name. He handed me a large bouquet of flowers and asked for my signature to confirm receipt. The flowers were tulips, their vibrant colors catching my eye. I wondered who had sent them.
