1. YOU'RE FIRED

1135 Words
I snoozed my morning alarm as I had woken up early before the alarm rang. Today's day is special for me. Umm….not only for me but also for the few people around me. The people whose story I am gonna tell the whole world. The people who are the most integral part of my beautiful life. I am excited. Yes, I am. I quickly wear my pink shirt with black leather pants and brown boots and then I put a pop of Raspberry lipgloss on my pouty lips. Whoo! I am ready. My phone rings. I smile seeing the name of who's calling me. "Hello, you're coming right?. Okay then meet you. Love you. Bye.", I hung up. I lock my house door and swiftly run towards my car and drive straight to my work. While driving, I put on the Radio FM and listen to some Coldplay. I am so very nervous. But I am excited too. I sigh when I reach the building. I like how on the top of the building the name is made up of complete glass reading "C NEWS" in bold. I smile confidently and rush inside. I practice my lines in the green room, while my assistant comes in with a bottle of water and a soft textured, navy blue blazer. The blazer is having a brooch made of Gold written "C NEWS" in bold and below there's my name. While wearing the blazer I ask my assistant, "Is the sound ready? Are the speakers working?", I ask. "Yes, Saksh!",She replies with a thumbs up. I am newly promoted to the news anchor position. Previously, I was just a writer working under the Journalists. So, my assistant calls me by my name. No ma'am, no mentions of honours, they are all my friends. "Okay, I'm ready, let's start." I say. "Are you sure Saksh that this is gonna work? I mean who would read such a story? And who would even want to hear it?",She says with worry. "I am one hundred percent sure Leena. Whoof! This is gonna be a banger and an eye opener for everyone. Okay! Everything's fine, let's go face the camera.",I rub my hands together and warm up my voice. "Okay and lights, Camera and speak!",Our Camera director roars on the microphone. "Hello and Welcome everyone, you're watching C NEWS and I am your lovely anchor, Sakshi Patel." I say with a confident smile on my face. I continue,"As you all know why we have gathered here today. Hmm.. I am new to you and I am a new anchor. You have seen me just twice before I started doing this thing. You've seen me reading attention grabbing headlines and giving news that excels in every manner. Well, that's the quality of our News channel, "C NEWS". Now, Setting everything apart I am here to tell you something. You are here to know something and we all are here to hear something right? So today's program is gonna be a special one because it's for and about special people in my special life. Without twisting the words let me tell you, that it is a story." I begin. "A story that I've experience live, a story of conspiracy, betrayal, murder and what not." I say a little too attentively. "It was quite a news for some time. It had risen havoc in the news World and the business world. But has anyone heard about it point to point? Do you know what incidents took place and what happened word to word? Well, I am here to tell you that. As a live spectator who has lived the story with the people involved in it, no one better than me can explain it exactly. So let's start" I begin. 1 YEAR EARLIER~ "What's this? How am I supposed to send this to our editor team? Is this what you've written? This is bullshit! Just go and throw yourself somewhere.", The C NEWS channel CEO shouted, throwing the file on the desk. "But sir, I wrote what I got, I.." Meghna tried to explain. Her soft and creamy voice sounds mesmerizing. "Just shut up! What do you think huh? Editors and Anchors are gonna like this? They will throw this on your face. We work for "C News" Meghna not for some cheap News channel or Company. You know when you joined what I had told you right? The editors and the Anchors are the boss here not me, I am just a mere transformant in between y'all. Why can't you get such a petty thing? What am I supposed to do with you?" He continued to be a pain in her ear. Everyone is gazing at them through the transparent glass walls of the CEO's cabin. Meghna lowers her dark blue, dewy eyes. "But this news is gonna be great sir. I assure you that. Trust me for this, once. I can guarantee that it will make the headlines." She assures, her rosy lips on fleek. "Pffft...Headlines? My foot. Nobody's gonna stand this type of unprofessionalism. Not me at least." He is reluctant. "Sir please, once. I beg. I request. Once you forward this to the editors and anchors and see." Meghna begs, her skin is turning pale. C NEWS stands for Current News and in this news company the CEO is not the high level boss. He is the one who decides everything but the editors and the Anchors are the ones who select a particular article or news to be forwarded into the TV screens. This company does not work like other channels. The CEO rubs his forehead, " Okay, this one time I am forwarding it. Whatever your fate is, accepted or rejected will be in the hands of the editors and anchors. Meghna smiles a small smile. "Thank You sir." She says, revealing a beautiful dimpled smile. After a few hours that same day, Meghna is called by the team of editors and anchors. "Knock, Knock" Meghna enters. "Good afternoon ma'am. Good afternoon sir." She wishes, her long, silky hair, which runs till her back tied in a ponytail. They all gaze at her like hungry beasts. She low-key gets scared. "What's this crap?" One of the editors utters. "Ma'am this news is really trendy, and.." "Cut the nonsense and get out." One anchor shouts, making Meghna jump in fear. "Sir please." Meghna cries. "Since you joined you're of no use. You are a lazy person. You don't belong here. Who hired her? She's not at all good." Says one of the anchors. "I'll do it all again. Just one chance." Tears fell from her eyes. "It's too late. You're fired." Says one of the editors. "What?" Meghna's eyeballs grow big and she runs from their cabin, crying.
