Celeste turned to the other side of her bed, hoping to get her body from itching.
Her father’s voice kept reverberating in her ears. How could her husband risk his own life just to save her? It was hard to keep the sadness even though she knew that he died in the future and this was the past.
She had reincarnated into this tall, fragile body, with long silver hair and fair skin. Not what she would have loved, but she was grateful to be alive.
“Hi, got some minute to spare?”
Celeste lifted her head to the voice and standing on the doorpost was Kyle. He was in his flight suit today with his nothing to showcase his medical prowess.
“You are the first body to have been reincarnated,” He said as he sat down beside her.
Celeste shivered.
“So I was like a lab rat?”
“A successful lab rat.” Kyle chuckled and Celeste laughed. “We need to stop them though, or what you saw in the future will repeat itself,” Kyle whispered, suddenly turning serious.
“What do you mean to stop them?”
“Here,” Kyle said and dropped the AVC into her hands, “With this aviation control you can unlock the skipper. It is the only way to preserve the human species.”
“But I thought you brought me back to 4020 to stop the Ozone depletion?”
“That was the initial plan, but now there have been some changes as those high ranking officers in the ship wants to eat their cake and have it. They want to save their ass, not minding about the rest of us.”
“This is not making any sense.”
“Listen to me Celeste, we can save the human race. We don’t have much time.
The Skipper can only hold one person.
That’s why you were chosen Celeste because you have a life inside you.”
“Wait, you mean I am pregnant—”
“Shh,” Kyle shushed, looking over his shoulders to make sure nobody had walked into the room unannounced. “We are trying to keep this secret from the captain.” He stood up, “We have to go now before they get to the Skipper first.”
“But my father…”
“He is the reason why everyone in 4023 was dead. Even though he had agreed we bring you here, he still has some hidden schemes playing around in his sleeve.
Celeste's stomach tightened as she tried to brood over his words. She knew her father too well. He will do anything to save his skin.
“Let's go,” Kyle said and took the lead.
They were at the doorway of the first cabinet when an alarm suddenly went off and started blaring the serenity of the whole ship that did not slow them down.
Kyle had taken hold of Celeste and was dragging her to the far end of the ship, right next to the hallway, where she had stood before.
“There they are, stop them.” Celeste’s father shouted at his two companions.
Kyle hurried pushed Celeste away as the space bullet came flying towards his direction. It was too late for him though cause the bullet hit him by the arm and crushed the bones underneath.
Letting out a loud yell, he picked out his gun from his belt and shot the two men on the forehead.
“My God,” Celeste sobbed, “You saved my life,” She hurried towards his direction, placing her hands on his bleeding chest.
“It is not important at the moment. You must save the human race, Celeste. You must save the earth. Your father and the others are trying to destroy the world by destroying the Ozone. They thought that could survive if they stayed here in space. But now the oxygen in this ship has reduced. It’s just a matter of time before we all die.
“I will not let you die,” Celeste cried, feeling sorry that he had injured himself just to save her.
“Let’s move Celeste. Kate and the other crew are in the control room. They will try and stall your father for a while.” Kyle said, walking up to his feet.
They hurried towards the aviation chamber, and they're sitting in the center of the room, was a yellow Skipper.
“There it is,” Kyle said and hurried towards the ship. He pushed one of the red buttons on his belt and Skipper’s door slide upwards, revealing the inner chambers.
“Get in Celeste, we don’t have much time left.”
Celeste hopped into the Skipper, not knowing why she trusted this stranger. Perhaps it was because of his voice that bore a resemblance to her husband. Or was it his face?
The door of the Skipper was about to close when someone suddenly walked up to Kyle from behind and slammed his face.
“You are a fool, Dr. Kyle,” Celeste's father said and pushed the red button on the Skipper, making the door slid back open. “Get down my dear.” He said, pointing the gun at Celeste, “This Skipper is meant for daddy.”
“No,” Kyle screamed and pushed the other man away. He hit the red button on the Skipper and the door shut finally. “Go, Celeste go. Remember to use the AVI ones you get to earth. That would save the Ozone from depleting and destroying the world.”
Celeste pushed down the lever and the Skippers engine roared to life. But to her dismay, she saw Kyle being shut twice on the forehead.
“You are a monster, daddy,” She yelled and tried to pull up the lever so that she could strangle her father with her own hands. But it was too late.
The door of the chamber had opened and with one swift motion, the Skipper zoomed out into the dark world of space.
Celeste wiped her eyes trying to fix the pattern. How could people she never knew risk their life for her?
She turned back to the ship where her father was still standing gnashing his teeth. A small smile of victory smeared Celeste's face but they waxed into sadness when the Space ship suddenly exploded, giving out yellow flames and spreading throughout as far as it can go.
So I am the last surviving race of the humans? The feeling made her sick, but she found comfort within her when she saw the AVI sitting next to her. All hope is not lost. I can still save the world. I can still save the human race. The labor of Dr. Kyle and Kate will not be in vain.
Celeste heaved and pushed down another lever, gaining more speed. She shifted the coordinate, heading for earth.
