Everything happened so fast that I didn’t even have time to react, never mind defend my beautiful mate! The monsters were on top of me in the blink of an eye, and darkness took over! I woke up to the foul stench of sulfur and an incredible stinging pain in my side.
There was no sign of her anywhere, but I already knew she wasn’t there anymore. I could feel it. It didn’t stop me from checking, but I was losing blood fast, and my wound wasn’t healing, so I had to get to the boat and to the market in the hopes of finding someone who would help me before I lost consciousness.
Stumbling down the stairs to the boat, I felt darkness fighting to take over, but I had to stay awake. I had to get back. If I had any hope of saving Skye, I had to find my mother!
