Chapter 8 - Success and some good news!

Skye I wanted to get everything over with and have my future decided before I could change my mind. Theodore wanted us to do some more research first, but thanks to his mother and Julius, I was able to convince him to allow the seekers to do what they apparently did best. Heal me. Somehow, I was expecting more herbs and nature and less medical equipment, so I started to shiver as they were wheeling me down the passages in the seeker's house. Theodore held tightly onto my hand up to the point where they told him he wasn’t allowed to go any further. He gave me a long loving kiss, and they pushed me into a modern-day operation theatre. “And here I thought magic was going to fix me.” I joked as they helped me onto the table. “It is, sweetheart. I promise you we are going to do our best to keep you safe.” Rochelle’s eyes appeared above me. Her face and hair were covered by the necessary gowns. “All of this is just to make sure we take every precaution possible to keep you safe. We are going to put you to sleep now, and when you wake up …” She hesitated. “I will be able to start a new life?” I grinned in the hopes that if I was positive, it would give them enough confidence to do this. The last thing I remembered was Rochelle snapping her fingers. Theodore At first, they wouldn’t allow us anywhere near the operating theatre, but thankfully, my mom convinced the seekers to allow us to sit in a small viewing gallery overlooking the theatre. It was the worst experience of my entire life, watching my mate as they slowly opened her wound and started weaving their spells to remove the offensive thing from Skye’s back. “Careful, careful!” Rochelle was guiding her team in removing what looked like a piece of bone from a demon. It must have broken off when the original cut was made and grown to its incredible size as she grew. Intertwining itself around her spine and slowly crushed the life out of her. Rochelle explained that that was probably the reason why she was so pale. “STOP!” My thoughts returned to what was happening in front of me, and my breath caught in my throat. Whatever it was, it almost looked alive. It was pulling tighter around her nervous system the harder they tried to remove it. Almost as if it had a life of its own! Rochelle looked up to the gallery, and I noticed the seeker standing in the corner moving to the front of the glass. “NO!” I growled as she moved to close the curtains in front of us. “I need to see what’s going on!” “I’m sorry, Theodore, but they need to concentrate, and having you glaring over their shoulders is not helping them or your mate. Please, you need to wait outside.” Every fibre of my being was telling me to smash the glass and go down there, but my mind was telling me to do as she said. “Son, let them do what they do best.” My mom’s eyes were begging me, and I realized I was growling. “I’m sorry,” I apologized, and the girl smiled. Her eyes were kind and full of understanding. We followed her down another long passage to a room that had three beds, a television, and two couches. They did warn us that it could take hours, but I was hoping it would go faster. “Son, why don’t you try and rest for a little while. Skye will need you at your best when she wakes up.” I rolled my eyes at my mom, knowing that she was only trying to help. “I know, I shouldn’t fuss.” She sighed and sat down next to Julius. I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing! “I need some air.” I didn’t wait to hear what they had to say, and shifted into my wolf before I was even out of the door. Skye I was back in my parent’s home trying to hide as she told me, but the blood was so much that I couldn’t breathe. I had to … The pain in my back was excruciating, and I was back in the caves locked away in the cell with the others. I recognized some of the children, but there were so many. I heard someone scream in the distance, and I was in the camp carrying a bucket of water. “Skye, Skye, sweetheart, it’s me, wake up please.” Theodore’s voice drifted through the fog, and I opened my eyes. “Oh, my little wild thing!” He leaned forward and I groaned. “Sorry, sorry.” He sat back. I tried to say something, but my throat was very dry. “Don’t try to talk yet sweetheart.” Esmeralda stepped closer with a glass of water and handed it to Theo, but I needed to know. “It worked baby.” He dropped kisses all over my fingers. “They got it all.” “And my back? Can I walk?” I heard the room door move and saw Rochelle’s smiling face come in. “Well, we aren’t going to make you get up just yet, but we can check to see if you have any feeling in your feet.” She winked. Everyone left so that she and her team could do their evaluation. I breathed a sigh of relief when she told me that I would make a full recovery. “Skye, you need to understand that it is going to be a long road to that recovery. Magic can only do so much. The rest will be up to you.” I thanked them and couldn’t wait to see Theodore again. I wanted to run. I wanted to dance! I wanted our life together to begin, so I could put all of this behind me, but when I tried to sit up, I was reminded I had just been taken apart and put back together again. I had to listen to what they told me to do. For the next couple of weeks, my life consisted of physical therapy exercises in-between visits from Theodore and his family. I got to know his grandparents much better, and they were the sweetest couple I had ever met. After a couple of weeks, I was allowed to go home, but Theodore and his family kept a close eye on me. I wasn’t allowed to shift yet, at least, until Rochelle gave me the go-ahead. In the meantime, I had to be carried around the house if I wanted to go anywhere, and I had to ask if I needed anything. The only time I was allowed the smallest bit of freedom was when Theodore helped me take a bath! “Well, sweetheart, are you ready to look?” The day had finally come after three months of physical therapy and loads of healing from my wolf. I nodded, and they moved the mirror in place for me to see. My hands immediately covered my mouth as I saw my beautiful back. There was no sign of the scar! I tried to stand up, and it still hurt when I did, but it was getting better. “Now, you can’t shift yet, but you can start to move around on your own. In fact, I want you to. Just take it easy. Theodore, make sure she doesn’t overdo it.” She winked at him, and a soft growl escaped my mouth. “I’m sorry. It’s been a while.” I giggled and felt the slight burn cross over my cheeks. “Well, that might also have to wait a little while.” She winked again. “Your back is healing, but it will take time to get back.” She seemed to hesitate for a moment. “Skye, the thing we removed formed part of you for a long time. It is going to take time for your body to adjust to living without it.” “That.” Theodore, jumped into what felt as if it was about to become a very gloomy conversation. “Is why we are going on a short holiday.” “That is a great idea. I will leave you to get dressed.” Rochelle excused herself and Theodore helped me get dressed while I peppered him with questions about our holiday. I already felt as if I had been on holiday for a year! “We are going to the fairy islands. You will love it.” That was all he said, and he refused to give me any more information. The Demon King My spies finally found the girl, but unfortunately, she was in the homelands of the witches! We couldn’t dare go there without being detected! I had to find a way to get there and get her! Something had changed since she left. I felt it … Almost as if something had died! I needed to find the girl before anyone realized I was slowly losing my strength, and especially before those animals decided I was no longer fit to rule them!
