"What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?" Gripping his head tightly, Edwin kept asking these questions while pacing back and forth. Ever since he'd managed to find his way to Kimberly's house after the disastrous press conference, he'd been restless and unsettled. He was filled with worry as he wondered what his fiancée would think of him, how she would feel hearing the voice recording.
Edwin could swear with his messed-up life that he would never say such nonsense. No, he would never cheat on Laura, not after all they'd been through together and how she'd supported and encouraged him during his struggling days prior to his limelight. When Edwin's father, Andy Kasper, had done everything to make sure that Edwin didn't get to act or chase his dreams, she was all he had, and he would never trade her for anything. He loved her so much with all his heart and would never cheat on her. That's why this whole thing was still baffling and suspicious to him.
He couldn't help imagining the person behind all these schemes. Just what exactly did they stand to gain from his downfall? The person had meticulously planned everything.
"Oh God!" He groaned in frustration, brushing his palm across his face. As if that wasn't enough, he bit down on his palm.
"Ahhh..." he grunted in pain, as blood instantly began to gush out of the fresh wound.
"What?" Kimberly was taken aback by the painful grunt from the man. He quickly rushed to him, grabbing the innocent wounded palm. "Oh my God, did you just bite yourself till blood came out? Are you turning carnivorous on yourself?"
"Who cares about this little wound? I wish my problem at this moment was about me biting myself till I bled," Edwin retorted in self-mockery. He quickly withdrew his hand from Kimberly, who had a horrified expression on his face. Apparently, the scene of blood gushing out of Edwin's palm felt horrifying as the blood intensified. But the man in question felt less concerned and unbothered. He was unaware of the fact that his palm was now filled with blood, with some dripping onto the floor.
Kimberly just shook his head before walking away. He came back with a first aid box in hand while the oblivious Edwin continued to pace around the room like nothing had happened. He was obviously not feeling the pain.
"You've actually lost it," Kimberly sighed before dragging the man to a couch. As he dressed the wound, he couldn't help but feel pity for his boss and friend. Despite having just been released from the hospital, Kimberly looked stylish as ever in his fashionable attire, his short wine-colored hair perfectly styled and his blue eyes filled with concern.
"How the hell did I end up in that hotel?" Edwin muttered, his green eyes distant.
"Are you asking me? Just one day that I wasn't around, you decide to mess up with another lady. Now look where it has gotten us."
"How many times do I have to tell you that I didn't do it?" Edwin gritted his teeth, his eyes red with anger as he suddenly pulled his palm away from Kimberly.
'Thank goodness I'm done dressing the wound,' Kimberly thought inwardly. He knew he'd provoked Edwin and he was angry now. Who would like to be misunderstood?
Kim sighed, leaning against the couch. "That's true. You have only loved one girl. So how come that voice recording sounded so much like your voice?"
"That's what I'm trying to figure out. I don't have any memories of saying that nonsense. What the f**k is actually going on?" Edwin became even more frustrated as he sprang up from the couch. He was about to bite his palm once again but stopped when he saw the white bandage on it. He just ruffled his dark hair with the hand instead.
He was muddled and blank, and no matter how much he ransacked his brain, he couldn't come up with anything. Not even a fragment of memory was left in his brain.
"What do I do? Laura has refused to pick up or return my calls. What do I do now?" He sighed, running his hand through his hair in frustration. "What do I tell her? What would I do if she decides to leave me? Would she even believe me?"
"Who would trust a man that was caught in a hotel with another lady? And with the voice recording, I think she's really pissed right now," Kim mocked.
"You're not helping matters at all, Kenneth," Edwin said, calling Kimberly by his original name, knowing that it would infuriate him.
"Is that how you treat a patient? Remember that I've just had an appendectomy and I'm still recovering," Kimberly suddenly huffed, causing Edwin to quickly apologize.
"Sorry," Edwin said. "I know I shouldn't be putting you under this stress."
"Aww... don't feel sad. Everything will be fine, I promise," Kimberly assured.
"Just how? My name is plastered everywhere in the news. Now, I'm seen as a cheater, a liar, assaulter, and untrustworthy soul. And my fiancée has refused to pick my calls. How do I recover from all this?" he screeched, gripping onto his head.
"I can't even go back to my house because it's infested with reporters who are guarding it like their life depends on the scoop. Isn't that why I'm in your house?"
"God! I'm so screwed," Edwin grunted, using his hand to ruffle his hair, messing the dark locks further.
"For f**k's sake, calm down Edwin. You look like a mess. Just try to be positive. I'm sure Laura is busy or something. We have to look for a way for you to visit her. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Your manager is working together with the others to see what they can do to curtail the news. Just trust them, and the CEO. That man sees you as a money-making machine, so he would never allow anything to happen to your career just like that."
"You're actually smart."
Edwin nodded his head, seemingly agreeing with Kim's idea. He slightly felt like a load was lifted off his chest.
"Of course, I am. That's why I'm your PA. Try using that brain of yours and figure something out while I go make some calls."
"The brain has refused to work, it's just muddled," Edwin cried out, feeling like just breaking down in tears. He had never felt so betrayed and humiliated as he felt this very day.
"Force it!" Kim screamed back as he sashayed away with his phone against his ear.
Edwin just stared speechlessly with a shake of his head. Everything still surprised him. How his life could turn into a nightmare. Just a few days ago, everything was perfectly fine. He was at work, laughing and playing with the crew on set while they treated him like a king. Now it was baffling how their attitudes towards him could change overnight.
The director had been so rude and mean that he had almost lost control over his anger. He had to bite his lips all through the time of the shooting in order to endure the man's crazy remarks and taunts. Even the second male lead, Mike Donnelly, was treated better than him.
Deciding not to think about it further, Edwin brought out his phone and began dialing his fiancée's number. For the thousandth time, the call was left unattended, causing him to throw the phone on the table with annoyance as he lay on the couch, folding himself like a baby. It was time to go to her!
